Ulrika Jonsson, a Swedish UK TV personality, has claimed that she was warned by an executive of the now defunct British tabloid The News of the World to exert caution when leaving voicemail messages.

The Swede said that she was given a warning over the phone hacking at the newspaper, according to a report in the UK Daily Telegraph daily on Friday.

"Someone told me not to leave voicemails," Jonsson said in an interview for broadcaster ITV's Tonight programme, to be broadcast this evening, the newspaper reported.

Ulrika Jonsson is a well-known face on British TV having developed a career since leaving her native Sweden in her early twenties.

Her love life has long been the subject of intense interest from the UK tabloids and her alleged relationship with former England football coach Sven-Göran Eriksson brought her back into the spotlight in the mid-2000s.

In her ITV interview, which forms part of a programme entitled "Rupert Murdoch, The Power and The Story", Jonsson talks of "feeling sick" when told by police that she was one of the celebrities involved in the phone hacking scandal.

''I felt immediately like my stomach was turning. I felt really scared - somebody's been watching or certainly somebody's been listening to my life," Jonsson said, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The News of the World was the Sunday sister paper of The Sun, the UK's best-selling newspaper, until it was closed on July 10th. It had a reputation for exposing the private lives of celebrities.

The developing phone hacking scandal, which ultimately led to the newspaper's closure, has led to a very public backlash in the UK and a broader discussion over press ethics.

"He love life has long been the subject of intense interest from the UK tabloids and her alleged relationship with former England football coach Sven-Göran Eriksson brought her back into the spotlight in the mid-2000s."

The Locals credabilty is really going down, according to The Local Ulrika Jonsson is a man. "He love life"

Yet another kook up.

They had to warn her so she could think of something interesting to say.

Still it didn't work.

One thing that disappoints me is how people get so upset when a privately owned newspaper spies on individuals by hacking into their phone calls, but no one bats an eye when intelligence agencies like the NSA do it routinely to millions of people every day!

I'm not defending the newspaper's actions because they were reprehensible, but it needs to be understood that government agencies doing it is just as bad, and maybe even worse!

Ulrika '4x4' Johnson (4 kids by 4 different men) - a great example of Swedish monogamy.

Nobody in Sweden knows who she is, so there's very little point in publicising what she says. Besides, her credibility (if she ever had any) has gone way down in recent years.

I just love it when The Local has to read its readers comments to get it right.

Ulrika is a big star in UK. She well paid and better placed than any progrmme leader in Sweden. Her private life have no bearing with her skillfulness.
13:05 July 16, 2011 by JulieLou40
@ princet: What are you on? A big star? I don't think so! In the UK (where I was born and lived for over 40 years) most people can't stand her. She is thought of as a talentless, loud-mouthed, s**t-stirring (I'm thinking of the Jon Leslie thing here, when she refused to confirm or clear what the media thought he had done) slapper.

If that woman is a big star, then I am the Queen.

The slogan of the Local says "Sweden's News in English", not Ulrika News in The Local.

"The Swede said that she was given a warning over the phone hacking at the newspaper, according to a report in the UK Daily Telegraph daily on Friday." In other words, this so called "news" about an unknown Swedish nincompoop appeared in the UK Daily Telegraph. It is not a news about Sweden, but, even if it were, it is not LOCAL Got it? editors of The Local?

If we want to read news about Russia, USA, China or whatever, we will certainly not look for them at THE LOCAL.
13:21 July 16, 2011 by zircon
True, Ulrika J. knows how to be British and that is perhaps unique to Swedes.

@Alfred Nevada

Spot on! Hopefully, once the Murdock flap frays a chagrined press will be looking for vindication and turn their attention to state sponsored crimes.
14:21 July 16, 2011 by J. L. Belmar
Since she is a "nolla" and always will be a "nolla", have you thought about the possibility that she invented the "news" so she could be

in a media once more and not only linked to Svennis?

She is capable of that and much more.
17:55 July 16, 2011 by prince T
@Julielou my bad. I meant bigger star than all swedish programme leaders put together. Your commment was harsh ouuch!! Compared to english people she is not that big. She presented Gladiators, a dating game etc on British prime time shows. She not that bad.
18:16 July 16, 2011 by eurobloke
Despite the opinions of some she is probably the best known Swede in the UK, even though she hasn't live in the country since she was twelve. Yes, she was a darling for the red-tops or the yellow press, but it doesn't stop of the seriousness of the crime.

Many media including the press outside of the UK are being very watchful about this, and no wonder what would happen if the Aftonblatet or Expressen closed because of such a scandal.
14:04 July 19, 2011 by BrittInSweden
I'm confused by all these people who say she is a big star in the UK.

She is more famous for sleeping her way around the male cast of Gladiators. Being made fun of on Shooting Stars and being in an affair with Sven.

She is as much of a star as Paris Hilton i.e. Only women who read gossip magazines follow them.
13:59 July 25, 2011 by Streja
The article says she moved to the UK in her twenties. That is not true!

Her Swedish is not very good as we found out when she tried to present Miss Sweden years ago.
