Swedish neo-Nazi site charged with hate speech

Charges have been filed against the publisher of a website affiliated with a Swedish neo-Nazi movement for allowing a reader comment containing racial slurs to remain on the site.

The site is the online version of Nationellt Motstånd (‘National Resistance’), a quarterly print magazine put out by the Swedish Resistance Movement (Svenska motståndsrörelsen), one of Sweden’s most active neo-Nazi groups.

The comment was in connection to an article published in April on the subject of global finance. The comment, which was entitled "time is running out for the finance Jew", described the Jews as parasites, among other things.

As "Nationellt Motstånd" reviews reader comments before publishing them, the comment falls under the jurisdiction of Sweden’s libel laws.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Chancellor of Justice (Justitiekanslern – JK), has now concluded that the comment amounts to agitation against ethnic groups (hets mot folkgrupp), and has filed charges against the site’s publisher Emil Hagberg for violating Sweden’s press freedom laws.

Pär Öberg, the site's owner and author of the article in question, told The Local that "Nationellt Motstånd" regards the law as a "means to suppress dissenting opinion".

"Just like in North Korea it is unclear what is a breach of the law. Not even JK knows where the line goes," he said.

Öberg explained that the charge, which follows a similar charge against Hagberg filed in November 2010, will have no effect on the site's policy of monitoring comments on its articles.

"No because we would then have all sort of irresponsible comments," Öberg said.

"This comment concerned the financial power of Jews and we would very much like to see a discussion of the concentration of power maintained by Jews in the finance world," he said.

It always amazes me that people are still so jealous of the Jews. If they have the brains and the means to earn money, why is that a bad thing? If these neo-nazis put the same kinda energy into their own lives as they do trying to find fault with the jews, they too would probably earn money!

As the great country singer Kinky Friedman once sang "They aint making jews like Jesus any more."

There are a few posters here on TL who take the same attitude when their racist posts are deleted by The Local

This action does kind of smell like repression.

If free speech is to be allowed then that is all speech.

In this case the type of freak who will visit this site is not being incited as they are already there for such information.

Normal people would not be on this type of site.

Free speech has to mean just that. Not just permitting what we want to hear. The listener or reader has the right to walk away, turn it off or leave the site.

Freedom of speech is freedom of society and anyone who seeks to contain opinion just because they don't agree with it needs to consider their actions carefully.

Would the real Neo Nazis please step forward !

Antisemitism was ,still exsist and probably will exsist in Europe and not just there.

In 2500 years of Jewish exile in Europe there were short periods in which Jews had peacefull life without pogroms and anti Jewish laws, from Spain in west to Russia in east and till Greece in South.,Religion reasons,Political reason ,Economical reason ,race laws there were always explanation for attacking them.

The solution is the state of Israel there they can take their sort in their hands,

My parents after the holocaust understood it,Theodor Herzl was the first Jew to understand it before 130 years understood it.and it is time for the other Jews to understand it.

Maybe it is time too take a look at allies from the past.

Hitler/Nazis were allied with the Muslim North Africans during WWII. Grand Mufti Hussein of Jerusalem spent WWII as Hitler's special guest. Many Nazis escaped int North Africa to escape prosecution following the Nazi defeat.

There is a measure of solidarity with the pathetic remnants of the KKK and the Muslim extremists. David Duke made a big hit at the Holocaust Denial Conference in Iran a few years ago. I am an American and this is shameful as my Dad and uncle fought in WWII.

While I am white, the KKK came for my ancestors in the past.

Odds favor an alliance of sorts between the Neo-Nazis and the Islamic radicals. As long as they can keep the focus on the Jews they will keep the focus off themselves.

Well, SMR is probably the only swedish rightwing extremist organisation that openly embrace violence as a political method. At least the only one i know of. So, it is natural that the state will want to slam them whhenever they step over the line. I mean, no real need for tolerance and forgiveness here? They would overthrow democracy in sweden if they had the power.

Tom

Today Neo-Nazis are mainly anti-Islam and Islamophobe. Just this right wing extremists who killed 80 persons in Norway yesterday has criticized Sweden for not writing gainst Islam! It is sad that your country is supporting these Islamophobia!

Nobody has nothing against somebody who belong to Islamic religion and live his life peacfully and is not involved in terrorism ,believe me in Israel there are many muslems villages ,one of them is 1 km close to my house in which we have very good connection they come to buy at our village, they open a drug store here and also were invited with their children to children theater in our place ,near Jerusalem there is an Arab village Abu Gosh there we travel to eat in the restaurant and to listen to a music a very nice place around the forests,so it is not black or white and there are also colours between them in the relationship among people.

"Agitation against ethnic groups"-they say. Fine. But shouldn't there however be proof that the speech, excerpt or whatever it was actually DID incite agitation? For all we know it may have just provoked nothing or even laughter. Doesn't "Quod non est in actis non est in mundo" apply anymore? How do the powers that be know for sure that it provoked positive net agitation? What methods are used in calculating and substantiating these claims? If 6 people ignored it and 5 readers were agitated what does that count as? Just wondering.

whats with all the jew thing? eversince i came to sweden all i see is muslims, ive never met a jew in 2 years here...

The freedom of speech in Europe leads these nutts to preach hate and then go on killing and kill over 80 innocents in Norway.

These Nazis have killed over 55 millions and still are thirsty of blood.
20:21 July 24, 2011 by prince T
We must remember that mad man did not kill only muslims. Majority of the 86 people are non muslim. The destruction that was caused by the nazist will not also affect muslim ttaxes. We should join hands together and get rid of these cracy people and the islamic terrorists. They are birds of the same feathers. Be it SD or the islamic terrorists

Funny how most people here seem to think that "freedom of speech" means "I can say absolutely anything I want".

I'm about mid-right and very race conscious (meaning I want to preserve the races and not mix) and anti-multiculturalist, but I don't agree with Neo Nazi ideologies. However, to tell someone what they can or cannot say is definitely going against free speech. It's almost like a communist thing to tell them that they can't voice their opinion (I just wish they'd do so in a more intelligent manner).

It's getting really scary when people aren't allowed to voice their opinion for fear of legal prosecution..
