Swedes slam centrally negotiated wages

A majority of Swedes, 60 percent, want to arrange their own salary raises through individual negotiations with their boss, shows a survey published Friday by employer organisation Almega.

Less than one in ten would prefer to see wages set through centrally run union negotiations.

"It's also interesting to see that 6 out of 10 think it's more fair that those individuals who perform best and put in the most effort should receive a raise, compared to the 3 out of 10 who said it would be more fair if everyone was always guaranteed a raise, regardless of performance and effort," said Almega's CEO Jonas Milton in a statement.

50 percent of survey participants were also unsatisfied with their union's definition of a fair salary.

However, Per Bardh, negotiations secretary at Swedish trade union confederation LO, would have liked to see if answers differed between white-collar and blue-collar groups.

"We've performed studies that show that support for centrally negotiated wages is much stronger within the blue-collar collective," he said to news agency TT.

1128 Swedes participated in the survey, which was conducted by polling company Silentium for Almega between July 12-14th.

les then one in ten prefer union to negotiate.

it is true the union here in sweden is very very unprofessional and most of the time they do not know what they are doing, i had the hotel restaurant union HRF THEY said to me they will open case against my employer, and my employer is not doing right, so they send him a latter and asked the money and Hrf said to me that they have a salary agreement with my employer, and during the negotiation we found out there is no agreement betwen them for minimum wages,HRF even can not count the hours what i worked, during the meeting with my employer hrf representative set and talk about night clubs and hrf man working as security guard. and i asked them

to send my case to central negotiations, and then they gave me

a Arab origin man who will represent me in my case. and my employer is also form Iraq , during the meeting they sit and

talk in Arabic language, after the meeting Hrf ombudsman told me that he can not do much, because if they have to take the case further it cost money to Hrf, and he is threatening me that they will close the case and will not represent me any more. this is sweden labour unions, people working for them thy do not know what they doing, they give you wrong advise and they will miss represent you and the end you will lose the job. so my advise to all Hrf members to do not involve Hrf in your salary negotiation or any other matter, i promise you they will let you down it is batter to be not a member of HRF . HOTEL RESTURANT FACKET IS USELESS AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING,and they will make sure you will lose your job so please talk to your employer directly

Oh so a survey purchased by Almega, the anti-collective bargaining and general wage dump organization, shows people do not want collective bargaining agreements! How surprising.

The media should disregard "oponion polls" ordered by parties with a clear agenda conducted on a tiny and carefully selected portion of people.

We shot this down quick smart in Australia, and the Howard Govt. lost an election over it. If you are smarter than your boss, you get a raise, if you're dumber than your boss, your wage drops. Sweden needs stronger unions.

sweden was one of the first countries to have union leaders being represented on the boards. go figure the conflict of interest and friendly agreements taking place....

as for HRF they don't seem to have changed much in 30 years - useless. I'm totally puzzled how reps would speak ANY other language than Swedish since it is the official language of the country, let alone arabic (or maybe it's the official one these days)

Almega says 9 out of 10 Swedes want the fox to guard the henhouse. There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics based on polls. Sample question:"How would you feel if you could get a huge raise by negotiaitng your salary with your employer?" Swedes who think for themselves will want to strenthen their unions (who do already cuddle very closely with employers) not weaken them.
