Swedish MPs seek gun law review

Several political parties want to see a review of Sweden's gun laws in the wake of the twin terror attacks in Norway.

The Centre Party, Liberal Party (Folkpartiet), Social Democrats and the Left have also voiced calls to review the legislation.
Swedish police stated yesterday that Anders Behring Breivik, who has admitted perpetrating Friday's attacks, who never have been able to obtain a licence for the weapon used in the massacre on Utøya.
Behring Breivik had obtained his permit for a Ruger semi-automatic rifle as he planned to hunt deer.
Lars Tonneman, director of the police law section at the National Police Agency (Rikspolisstyrelsen) said that licences would only be given in Sweden in extraordinary circumstances.
Roughly 2,500 individuals in Sweden have licenses for submachine guns. According to the Swedish Shooting Sport Association (Svenska skyttesportförbundet), this is the only type of automatic weapon that is used at Swedish shooting clubs.
Justice Minister Beatrice Ask has said that she is working on the issue on whether current legislation is in need of a review.

Would seem quite reasonable to me, to review the existing legislation to see if there is something that needs to be changed...? Lefty politicians...? How about just normal people who wonder - how many people do actually have automatic weapons and how are they regulated...?
there are plenty of weapons to hunt you dont need to shoot down animals with a pass by car mafia style, hunting weapons only need to do one shot isnt that why they call it a sport?
once ur using a bazooka its kinda pointless and it has been proven time and again the people who buy these weapons end up using them wrong.
and dont give me the "guns dont kill people, people kill people" sure with GUNS! if the norway guy had a knife how many would have he killed?

Does Lars Tonneman really think that murderers and terrorists would look for a "license to kill"? The only one who has such a license is 007 James Bond and he did not get it neither in Sweden, nor in Norway. .

'People from the global south are humans too' can be the name of this legislation
The fact that there are ways to obtain guns illegally does not automatically imply that no effort should be made to be more careful with who can buy a gun, and what types of guns can be legally acquired at gun shops.
Anyhow, it's an interesting debate with a lot of room for discussion.
What it's clear is that people on the top always want take profit in situations like that.
Would the Greek security forces be able to control an armed Greek population when they want to impose measures (the Greek rescue is a bailout for German banks, not for the Greeks) against the people's will as it is happening now? Who benefits of that?
The saddest aspect is that the Police took 90 minutes to reach the island and the boat took on water as they departed to leave for the interdiction. As much as Norway relishes in its dismal relationship with Israel their Police should beg forgiveness and go there for some serious remedial lessons in defense. There is no finer University on the planet for this kind of education.
Here in Wisconsin one of our own sheriffs just took such a course of which he was amazed at what he learned. Sadly I heard his report at a meeting full of liberals (me excluded) and they asked him on the side if he could kindly remove his gun and holster, before giving his report.
This is insanity because if law abiding citizens have guns then these murderous madmen can be taken down saving a lot of lives and grief. Bad people will always without any exception obtain a weapon but good defenseless people are just that. DEFENSELESS!
He had a Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic rifle (self-loaded rifle, to use old British terminology).
Since this rifle is mainly used for military purposes, Breivik would not have received a license in sweden to use it as a hunting rifle.
