Robbers fire at helicopter in failed heist

Two desperate bank robbers fired on a police helicopter with automatic weapons in Stockholm on Monday. But barely half an hour after the robbery they were caught. Police say they were aware that 'something was going on'.

The men drove to the eastern side of Lidingö, where they boarded a motorboat and headed for the island of Fjäderholmarna.
But a police helicopter, which patrols daily over Stockholm, had flown directly to Lidingö after the robbery. During the chase the robbers shot at the helicopter but neither of the two officers on board were harmed. It has not been confirmed if the shots actually hit the helicopter.
The boat was stopped at Djurgården where police seized the two men, aged 36 and 34.
Both of them have previous convictions, according to Ulf Göranzon at Stockholm police.
He told TT that police had an inkling that a robbery was going to be committed in Stockholm on Monday.
"You could say that our people were on top of things today. But we didn't know that it was going to happen on Lidingö."
