A security guard in western Sweden avoided major injury after receiving a dangerous hit in the eye from a laser beam fired by a 10-year-old boy.

The boy escaped criminal charges, however, due to his young age.

The security guard in Borås was momentarily stunned when he was shot in the eye at 1am Saturday morning with a green laser.

The guard was driving down Lars Kaggsgatan when he was suddenly struck by th laser eye, which caused pain and tears.

After a quick search, the perpetrator was revealed to be a 10-year-old boy.

“With the help of colleagues, the security guard was able to locate where the laser came from. It was an apartment and there they got hold of the 10-year-old boy,” internal police officer Lars Hullegård told local newspaper Borås Tidning (BT).

Police were called to the scene and spoke with both the boy and his guardians.

The incident is classified as aggravated assault, but because the boy is 10-years of age, he is not held criminally responsible and has been handed over to social services.

The laser pointer fired by the boy was bought during a trip abroad.

“In many cases parents buy this for their children as a fun toy. They don’t think about the harm it can cause others,” Hullegård told BT.

Laser pointers are not available in Sweden’s stores and the use of them in a public place requires a permit.

Actually, Laser pointers are available in stores in Sweden, you can even find them in toy stores or a toy stand on a market and I very much doubt you have to have a permit for those.

However, these laser you can buy are red, green lasers as in the article are not sold in Sweden and are as far as I know illegal, seems reasonable there might be permits available for them though.

It doesn't say that they confiscated the laser. He was old enough to know he was doing wrong. The parents should be made to compensate the guard as they must have known how dangerous lasers and that they are not a toy.

Lucky that the laser was put on stun and not kill!

Isn't it great to live in a country where kids aren't ever charged with anything? It is so nice to know that kids can hurt people as much as they want and if under 15 years of age get away with it. Kids can beat down their teachers with violent punches, destroy gas cap locks on cars to steal gas, throw stones through school windows, break the windows on every bus station in town, steal stuff from somewhere and try to sell it online, key your car and damn near kill someone without any sort of conviction or punishment. The people they hurt are not compensated and most police reports involving minors are shrugged off by the police because they don't have the power to do anything about these kids. In my community we had a kid steal two cars and burned the first he stole, had cops out all night looking for him and didn't get in any trouble because he was young. Just amazing where the youth here are headed because no one here has the balls to punish a child.

I don't know why people always say you can't buy laser pointers here. Like Leonick, I've seen them in multiple toy stores as well as in pet stores, never seen a green one though.

What is a 10-year doing up at 1 am anyways? Most children that young are in bed by 9 or 10. :/

Swedish children are among the worst behaved in the world. It is not surprising since we are not even allowed to raise our voices to reprimand the little bastards. My parents would have been in jail in present Sweden for abuse. Funny I never kept my punishments against them because I deserved every spanking that I got.

PS my parents always took the side of the teachers too...how strange is that!

I totally support johnny's comments, without some form of punishment they will always assume that they will get away with murder!

Be British, be sincere and be bold »

"Sweden is a veritable smorgåsbord for UK business. I see our work as a bit like a kind of dragon’s den for both for larger and smaller British companies. It is about matching the UK companies, not with cash, but with Swedish market opportunities." READ »
