A new book containing statements from a cellmate of missing Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg proves that Russian officials deliberately withheld information about the fate of the man credited with saving thousands of Jews from the Holocaust, researchers allege.

I am not surprised that the Russians have kept files secret. Not at all.
Yes they do, but swedes never demand anything. This man should be a Swedish Saint. The caring and grace he showed humanity could certainly be an example that is desperately needed in Sweden today. He should be perpetually written about in the news instead of wasting space on sicko hate mongering murders like BE-SICK:
The pointless obsession with Wallenberg's mysterious and sordid death is a sad distraction from Wallenberg's magnificent life. Now there's a story worth reporting.
Bravo! Precisely and Sweden could sure use a refresher course on tolereance, empathy, fairness, kindness, justice, equality, consideration, humanity and just plain human decency. This mans life if a shining example of a life that stood for SOMETHING. He took action. He was a true hero.
He is one of their treasures and Swedish citizens need a good refresher course about what Sweden use to stand for.
What Wallenberg did was outstanding but, as motti wrote, it seems he was betrayed by someone in Sweden.
Anyhow, I believe that too many years will pass until the truth about his fate is really known.
Who killed Palme? The Russians too, but of course.
Jacqueline, he is a Swedish hero, you're right. Have you seen the excellent film with Stellan Skarsgård in the lead? Very good but heartbreaking film.
Stalin had numerous people killed for no other reason than merely existing. He had war heroes who held out against the nazi's behind nazi lines rounded up and shot, after the war as traitors. He ordered the entire polish officer core to be shot in the Katyn massacre, just over 22,000 people, after the combined Nazi-Soviet invasion of Poland.
The problem is that the Swedish government was, is now and always will be spineless, especially regarding Russia. The truth needs to be told.
And the tomatoes are very cheap these days at ICA. Just keep on being a resonance box. You are good at that. I wonder what are you going to teach about Wallenberg. Hope you do not confuse him with Skarsgård.
I have not seen that one. I did see the one with Liam Neilson. Poignant and heartbreaking. I will look for the Stellan Skarsgård one. I love him as an actor.
I can see that the tomatoes were too expensive for you. Good luck in your classes about Wallenberg. You are not even worth the spit that is in the broken trumpet. It would be a waste of spit. Besides, I could never be a broken trumpet with spit inside, because I am neither your brother and of course nor the son of Swedish mother. Good Lord! God protects me.
I did not write "it's better to be a resonance box in a beautiful instrument than a broken trumpet with spit inside." The statement is yours and only yours, so, who is spouting abuse on this site?
Do not play the dumb Swede, you are too old for that. I only retaliate, so do not play dumb.
Now with the case of Wallenberg, it would be the time for Sweden to have more guts and really go deep into the story.
It is about time that we stick to the theme of this thread and stop talking about films with Liam Nielson.
Thank you I will bear that in mind and stick to the topic. I am very interested in this subject though, and felt watching several movies (granted, not documentaries, and of course interpereted factually) may be interesting. If you can suggest any documentaries that I am not aware of, that would be great.
You also might want to take youir own advice on the thread about clarifying the hours of fasting at Ramadan which really has nothing much to do with what you are posting about. And your Mexican joke is not only not funny, but it makes no sense either.
Before you rant at an article it is probably a good idea to read it first so you know what it is about. (Just for future reference.)
Since 1066 my family was at the forefront of every war for that empire. Also after the crusades we hired ourselves out to a few other countries, including Sweden, Prussia, Poland, Italy, Spain, France, Russia, Austria and a few others, when Britain was not at war with someone for money and to generally pass the time, slaughtering half of Europe, just as Swedes did until getting heavily defeated in the Napoleonic wars. My family history from 1066 up to until about 1945, reads sort of like a list of wars in all of continental Europe. My ancestors were part of the people who invaded Ireland. They landed in Ireland in1171, when the real slaughter began.
Ireland may have been held under the thumb by England for centuries, but the Irish always raise every grievance and murder, even up to a few hundred years after the fact. The Irish actually got Denmark to apologise for the Viking invasions of 795 to 1169, even thought the first Viking attack in Ireland in 795, was by ethnic Norwegians. Compare that with Sweden which finds every offence to actual ethnic Swedes not to be an issue to spend resources on.
There are three things Sweden could learn from Ireland;
1. how to deal with immigration and sucessfully integrate not only very different immigrant different groups, but on occassion groups that may have actually been at war with each other and make the majority of them, into a benefit for society. Chinese, Serbs, German, Brazilian, Albanian, French, Spanish, Thai, Japanese all work and socialise with Irish natives, unlike Sweden.
2. Stand up for its citizens abroad and those who have been wronged by foreign governments. If an Irish citizen is held abroad or wronged abroad the Irish government makes significantly more effort than most other governments to get them back home or alleviate that citizens conditions.
3. How not to run an economy, banking sector, social services, education system, healthcare or any public services.
What are you talking about? What has the Ramadan to do with the Wallenberg story? In case you do not know, an apple is an apple and a banana is simply another thing. Perhaps you like cucumbers.
Please. My joke was posted in another thread and has nothing to do with this one. If you do not like my joke indicates only one thing: you certainly lack sense of humour. Typical Swedish trait.
Start at home before you tell others what to do. You and Streja. Are you relatives, by the way? or simply, well, you know damn well what.
@ nemesis
Do not throw daisies to the oink oinks. They are "stängda i huvudet".
this is what I am talking about
1. "It is about time that we stick to the theme of this thread and stop talking about films with Liam Nielson." It was me talking of Liam Neilson.
2".What are you talking about? What has the Ramadan to do with the Wallenberg story?" Pointing out you should not be so accusitory of going off topic when you blatently did so yourself on the Ramadan thread...so it does actually relate. And your joke is not funny, just tasteless and racist. And I am not Swedish by the way. Not 1 drop of swedish blood actually, just so you know.
3. You might (yet again) want to take your own asvice on this one.---"
Start at home before you tell others what to do."
Perhaps you could teach an online course on how one can disagree without being disagreeable. Several of these bloggers need it. I can't for the life of my fathom what you wrote that called for cruel response to your innocuous comment that you were going to teach a course on the Wallengburg story.
Good luck on the course.
You are pathetic! Which university did you attend to be such a master in Pathetic Sciences? I truly hope none of the commentators dare to go to the same University located in Patheticland, right next from where you are from.
Yous iz pathetic! which university did yous attend to be such da masta in pathetic sciences? I fe real hope none hof da commentators dare to go to da same university located in patheticland, east side next from where yous iz from. Is it coz I is white?
And now (trumpets) WHAT????????????????????
I can only assume you are speaking to me as a praline ... since a praline is a yummy, sweet, french confection. However, I am only 1/3 French, but thank you very much all the same :-)
I actually got my college degree in Canada, but it was not in the field of science, rather the arts. But thanks for the interest. There we studied
a myriad of courses including generalised sciences, history, geography, physics, mathematics as well as specialized classes in the arts.
We also studied literary arts, language, writing and English in depth including advanced grammar. (Maybe you should brush up on yours a tad) I am aware of my spelling errors here (black keyboard/bad eyes) Thoughtful of you to inquire as to my education. What university did you study at by the way?
Streja and I differ in many instances in our opinions (we are not related by the way) I notice we certainly seem to rub you the wrong way. Possibly you are not use to dealing with intelligent, educated, successful women who have brains and are not too scared to use them.
Perhaps you are more comfortable speaking with those sweet ladies who do as they are told, sit in the corner, look pretty and shake their lady parts. I could do all of those things too, but fortunately my parents placed my value on using a very good mind to my benefit rather than " shakin' what my momma gave me" and marrying Billy Bob Sven in order to get by. Nothing against you, if you can not compete intellectually with an educated woman, thats ok. You stick to where you feel comfortable ;-)
Now, as you so eloquently said before, can we please get back to the topic? :-)
You are simply astonishing. What a C.V. Not even a Nobel Prize could brag about it. Feminists must be very proud of having such an specimen. I cannot compete with you, except that I have written nine books, three of them best-sellers, I had a son who was murdered back in my country some four years ago, I am a musician and a painter and I am considered a top worldwide journalist.
You can go, if you like, to my news website
www.newsknockout.com
and see what I am talking about.
Or perhaps to
www.newsondemand. com
and you will also see what I am talking about.
By the way, one of my best sellers is titled "The feminist plot". Too bad I did not know you before. You would certainly fit into one of my characters.
You, sweet pralinee, would never fit into any of my shoes. I am many numbers too big for you.
J.L.Belmar
P.S. Neither you or Streja rub me in the wrong way. You simply pisses US (me and others) off.
Firstly-I am very sorry to hear of your son. I have children and I can not even imagine it.
I can certainly appreciate the work involved in your news website. Read quit a bit of it actually and it must require a lot of work. Their are no credits or names of journalist or webmaster etc, I was surprised about that since it is usually standard with any credible news site, especially where a top worlwide journalists are featured. Also, what books have you written? I would very much like to read them as well.
I am still unclear as to where you attended university. Please enlighten me. It may interest you to know that just because a woman is educated, intelligent and successful, she is not necessarily a militant feminist. I am not one, in particular. I am, however a Human Right-ist and that includes the rights of men, women and children. Yes, I am proud of what I have accomplished. I worked very hard, for it. To state it is just facts, not bragging.
I too have a website which I care not to share with you as I do not particularily care for you..no offense. (and not the entire male gender, I love men. I married one and have lots of great, intelligent male friends.) Looking forward to reading your books :-) and also some more on Wallenberg as well if you can suggest some good ones, since you are an author you must be well read on such things.
He has an honorable memory place in Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.
May God bless his name and his family.
Israel.
i really tried to avoid your snippy thing, but....
"I am considered a top worldwide journalist"
Alfayhaa???? you better than that!
Yes gh2008.
Far much bether than Alfayhaa, which is, by the way, the second largest TVNewwork in the Middle East. I do not have space here to send you samples of CNN, Televisa, The Voice of America, El Mundo, Milenio, Radio Mil and many others, plus telling you how I managed to cover 3 wars by now. You are too liitle and too much of a nincompoop for my taste.
Now, can you tell me how is your health by now?
I tried to locate your book "The feminist plot". but all I could find was one written by a dead Indian woman and one on "The feminist plot and male unrination" which I am assuming is not yours.
I am assuming, by your evasiveness, that you did not attend university. Forgive me if I am wrong. There are many exceptionally intelligent men and women who did not attend university.Often times it is a pure case of lack of funds as higher education in many countries is very expensive.
I enjoy journalism and am in the process of writing a book as well, purely fiction and non political in nature. I look forward to reading your book as I have had my own initiation into Svensk Arrogans också. But there are narrow minded, bigoted, self absorbed, judgemental people in all races and demographics and I have met lovely Swedish people as well as the dough heads.
One can not judge by a preconceived notion of who an individual is, as you found out when you perceived me as stupid, non educated and basically feebleminded. I still believe if you want to be taken as a serious journalist, you really should put your name to your work (your website)
I still am interested in the learning more than what I already know about Wallenberg, so please refer me to any literature you are aware of. As I said at the beginning of the posts here...
The caring and grace Wallenberg showed humanity could certainly be an example that is desperately needed in Sweden today. He should be perpetually written about in the news.....
I attended two years of Law at the Universidad Nacional de México (National University of Mexico) after having made my kindergarten, Primary, Secondary and Coilege at the German School. So yes, I do speak German, English, Swedish, Spanish plus a great knowledge of Italian, French and Portuguese.
I do not want to put my name on my newsknockout, but you are giving me an idea. Why not? It has been my hobby for the past two years and I pay for the domain and the server in Dubai, so, why not?
The book you are looking for, was only published in Spanish. When I tried to publish it in Sweden, the feminist elite within the editorial houses just vetoed it, the same as a beautiful book I wrote with fables for children. You know why? Because the psicology I use is to elevated for the Swedish children's mentality. X my heart.
I would add to my CV, that I have covered 3 wars, I have won the famous International Mercury Award for the productive development and international cooperation; that I have been one of the best tennis coaches that ever came to Sweden (I still represent the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida); that I am in 3 Long Play records with a folk group I belonged to (Los Folkloristas); that I am a professional singer and whistler and that I have enjoyed a 165 IQ if you want to talk about geniuses.
I never perceived you as stupid, but as stubborn, yes.
I wish I could help you with the Wallenberg case, but honestly, he is not as interesting to me as, let us say, as my acquaintance Vladimir Putin can be or one of the Mexican heroes, like Emiliano Zapata, or even my grandfather, who was the one who kicked out the American Army from the port of Veracruz back in 1914.
What Wallenberg is supposed to have done (there are certain doubts about that, like the famous J in the passports of the Jews or the selling of them), but that is not my business.
Other will keep on writing about him as well as of Olof Palme, the Swedish Minister who when to the States with only 300 dollars in the pocket, travelled 39 States in only 30 days and then work black in Mexico with his cousins Rene and Ramon Palme, because he did not have, neither a visa to Mexico, nor a working permit.
Do you want to read "Om Svensk Arrogans"? buy it at Bokus.
Hope you write your fiction book. Sorry, but you have the flare to write only fiction. No offense, I hope.
You are not the first one who has accused me of being stubborn ;-)
Well.......it seems we have come to an understanding then. I respect your expertise and look forward to reading your book actually.
I write "fiction" ...but that which was gained through experience. It is perceived as fiction rather than autobigraphical, because I want my own sadnesses to remain my own and private. So they are classified as fiction. Everyone has their own private hell they have lived though to a greater or lesser degree. writing it gets it out.
I guess you and I are pretty ok people when we are not pissed off. But passion is a good thing. Passion ignites change.
I am there the Head of the Editorial Advisory Board. Read it, because you, in one of your comments, wrote "I still believe if you want to be taken as a serious journalist, you really should put your name to your work (your website)" As a serious journalist? Jesuschrist, where have I been for the more than 60 years I have been in the ink?
I still believe if you want to be taken as a serious journalist, you really should put your name to your work (your website)
JOSE LUIS BELMAR, Head of the Editorial Advisory Board
Skilled in the arts of journalism, advertising, public relations, music, writing, and painting, José Luis Belmar is one of the most highly respected communicators in the news industry today.
He started his long-life career in the fifties when he began writing for the Mexican daily newspaper El Universal. There, Belmar created the first ever dedicated show business and movie review section, in such a creative way that his columns caused the publication's circulation to skyrocket.
Mr. Belmar has in his portfolio more than twenty-six weekly radio and television programs for XEW (The Voice of Latin America from Mexico) and Televisa (Channels 2 and 4). Producing one of the first TV Newsreel sponsored by Excelsior daily paper and Goodyear Oxo awarded him with an unprecedented recognition among peers and executives in the industry, plus a one hour daily resume for the 1968 Olympiads held in Mexico; resume that enjoyed the highest ratings at the time. In 1978, in Mexico City, Mr. Belmar was awarded with the Gold Mercury International Award, "For the productive development and international co-operation".
Since 1987, Mr. Belmar has lived in Sweden where he has represented the interests of Spanish language media conglomerates including Television Azteca, S.A., Televisa, S.A., CNN en Español, and a variety of Mexican publications and radio stations including Excelsior, the daily MILENIO newspaper, and Nucleo Radio Mil, in addition to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
Since the beginning of 2007, José Luis Belmar's creative magic and expertise in the challenging art of producing engaging new ideas for radio and television audiences has made him one of Television Azteca S.A.'s most valuable assets. He has produced, to date, more than 190 "four minute" television segments focusing on public interest and controversial international topics, including an especially well-received feature on famous women who have "made a difference" in the lives of others around the world.
Jose Luis Belmar is, also, an experienced lecturer on the subjects of advertising and public relations.
The pity is, therer were just not enough Scgindlers, Wallenbergs and others who risked their lives in trying to protect humanity, from the very worst excesses of hatred.
There are two very famous sayings written by Rabbi Hillel over two thousand years ago. I trust some of you might take on board what he said, not supposedly, but factually (not for nothing were Jews known as people of the book. While many nations were illiterate, the Jews could read and write)
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?And if I am for myself, then what am I? And if not now, then when?"
"That which is hateful to you, do not do unto others. That is the whole Torah (Scriptures), the rest is commentary. No go and learn."
This wise sage teachings should be studied by many on this site before they spout their hatred an dignorance. Think before you write.
You see? My big mouth is good for something ;-) hahah
That was said by Volta Air, the new Swedish vacuum cleaner specially developed to swallow some ot the "commentators" pullulating on this thread and in many others. Do you happen to know someone? C'ommon, do not by shy. Just give me a name, just a name.
I am just a lonely gal all by herself on here. I don't know a sole actually. I found The Local to better understand Swedish news...and when I started to, I was appalled by a lot of it...and when I get appalled I get vocal. That's it
The Local is a very good site to read and understand Swedish news, if you do not understand and read Swedish, but if you do, start reading Dagens Nyheter or Svenska Dagbladet. They are not like the to tabloids Expressen of Aftonbladet. They are, more or less serious.
You are not alone. Now you have someone you can count with: me. It does not matter if we have different opinions once in a while, but I promise that you can count with me.
i hate to see an intelligent human being feeling lonely, but jacqueline, everything is in a state of mind.
Every morning, when you fix your self in front of the mirror, just say: Good Lord!, Thanks for letting me see the Sun one more day and for letting me enjoy the day. It makes miracles.
Cheer up!
Thanks... That was you with the hospital thin? I read that a while ago and (as usual) was disgusted. I have had my own medical nightmares here, let me tell you. Although not as bad as you. Anyway...nice to have our debate resolved and really glad you are feeling better :-)
I am going to relax now. Tomorrow, the Sun will shine for you, for me and for the beautiful people who cares about others. You will see.
Hope I meet you in another thread. I will. I am completely sure about that and let me think about a way that I can help you the best way I can. Pleasent dreams. I hope it is not too late where you live here in Sweden.
"There are three things Sweden could learn from Ireland"
Let's speak honestly and be frank about that:
1- Integration... Come on... that is really a big one and very hard to believe. Percentage of extreme racism in Ireland is the worst ever, almost all immigrants there were told on the face and openly that Ireland is a "Christian celtic" state and you are not welcome here. Well Nemesis, if you define Integration as sitting inside Irish pub and people from different colors and backgrounds are having drinks there, then yeah I agree that is a good integration.
2- "Stand up for its citizens": Don't tell me Ireland is doing a better job than any west European country. Why they didn't stand up impressively for Jennifer Guinness,Ben Dunne and Brian Keenan?
When I first heard this, I dismissed W selling the passports as an urban legend. But then when you realize how often Sweden censors any negatives about its history and heroes.....
Where have you heard or read that Olof Palme was in Mexico working illegaly with his cousins René and Ramón? And that, @cogito, is a fact.
He did not have neither a passport nor a working permit to work at their hardware store "Ferretería Palme", located in the Cuauhtémoc Avenue in Mexico City.
Furthermore, where have you read or heard an analysis that Palme could have never in his life travel through 39 United States states in 90 days with only 300 dollars in his pocket?
So, do not dismiss the "rumours" about the selling of the passports at all.
It's time for history's super-sleuth Trowbridge H Ford to come stepping in.....
Since when did all the "flaming", insults and trolls move to this part of the Local?
The discussion board is a dead zone compared to here!
@Gamla H: Right. It is boring over there because the discussion board dislikes discussion.
Anyone disagreeing with the prevailing orthodoxy gets a bucket of bile rather than reasoned counter-argument. The more interesting posters left.
Raoul Wallenberg deserves to be recognized more all over the world, because he is a symbol of a human being achieving almost an impossible task at that time.
End of discussion.
Someone get to you Belmar?
We read and hear the word "Hero" which includes footballers, pop singers etc. Wallenberg was a true hero, as were others who put their life on the line to save people from a real genocide.
This man's history needs to be part of Swedish history lessons (if it is not already). Something to be proud of. I am aware that many of his family and the Swedish establishment thought W to be an embarassment. That is their problem to be faced. Better to learn of this man's extraordinary heroics than to learn of Sweden's role as a so called neutral and the gross profiteering of Swedish manufacturers during the war.
Are you and Jacquilenee getting it on now? lol! Actualy Belmar, my own friends are Jews, Christian, Moslem, Sikh and Hindu. So I am unsure what you were trying to prove. I don't want anyone to fight for the right for me to speak my mind. However, it is a sad day when supposed democracies are not prepared to present both sides of the coin. Even more so, when real facts and news which contradict the official lines are censored. That is called brainwashing. This is something your neighbour suffers from in a very bad way. Ask Mr Gerstenfield, I am sure your Israeli ambassador friend knows of him.
I am pleased to say that I have personally met people like Netanyahu, Begin (a real mensch), Dayan, Geula Cohen Dan meridor etc etc etc. So have a happy day
It ends for those "bright people" who only want to discuss around stupidities, mine or theirs and that is tiring.
I suggest you to go to
www.moreorless.au.com/heroes/wallenberg.html
and read one of the most complet description of what happened with Raoul Wallenberg.
Yes. Jacquelinee and I are more or less in good terms, at least, until she writes something that I do not buy.
But typical Swedish. Don't discuss touchy issues in public. Don't forget - "en svensk tiger". Even today.
Come on people grow up and act like the adult human beings you are and not like children all the time.
The RW issue has to be sorted out as soon as possible but Sweden has no backbone to stand up to the Russians or Germans for that matter. The Swedish view is that RW is history and it will not bring the poor guy back if investigations into his disappearance in 1940's - 1950's continue. The Swedes believe that it will embarrass the Russians with all the questions.
Well hell to the Russians and any embarrassment it might or might not cause. SWEDEN MUST DEMAND THE TRUTH ON RAOUL WALLENBERG's DISAPPEARANCE.
