Swedish bestselling author and human rights activist Henning Mankell said in an interview on UK television on Monday that mainstream politicians shoulder the responsibility for the rise of the far right.

Isn't this geezer off to deliver some more 'humanitarian assistance' to his terrorist mates in Hamas soon?
Like him or not, he's 100% right with this statement.
As long as the other political groups in Sweden continue to ignore them, refuse to talk to or work with them and refuse to acknowledge the Swedish people that voted for them, their support will continue to rise.
Is it really OK for Hamas to murder Israeli children, but abhorrent for Breivik to murder Norwegian children? Really???
Repeat after me, Mankell: All violence is wrong.
Violence against Palestinians is wrong.
Violence against Israelis is wrong.
Violence against Norwegians is wrong.
There will never be peace through violence.
Unfortunayely, there is the odd nuttet who takes it too far and is often a sign if pychotic behaviour or low intelligence or both. That you will unlikely stop, but you could reduce fanning the fire that feeds their madness.
Tibetans, Sudanese, Burmese, Zimbabwean, Venezuelan, Cuban and other victims of oppression all deserve what they get in the view of this sordid stalinist. As for his views on jews . . . .
By the way, has anybody ever asked himself why exactly this guy lives in Mozambique?
Mankell's brain is pickled and warped. It's what allows him to write nasty thrillers. But it doesn't make him a wise political commentator, and he shouldn't be granted special treatment to air his political views based on his fiction.
Human rights activist Henning Mankell is nothing more than a marketing rights activist. He is very clever when using media and nincompoops to promote his twisted ideas.
He is certainly not a wise political commentator (planet_sweden) and I agree he should not be granted any special treatment at all.
Somethimes he is on the right, sometimes he is on the left, but in the majority of the cases, he is in the wishy-washy line. Are we going to keep on debating about his schizophrenia?
By now, we all should know what happen in Norway and who the guilty ones are. So, Mankell can say whatever he wants, he will certainly not change the truth behind the events.
maybe we should discuss your schizophrenia. Which currently seems much more appropriate
Rick Tracy, my lunatic. You cannot discuse my schizophrenia because I am neither your brother nor the son of your schizophrenic mother. So simply.
On the other hand, we can say that I am crazy, but not a stupid son of a schizoprhrenic wh... .
@here for the summer
Thanks for the information. Very enlightening. Did not he join Jack Nicholsson in the "Cuckoo's Nest"? and was enjoying the forking, forking with Louise Fletcher (Nurse Ratched), Rick Tracy's mother?
Who knows, maybe smallnose knows.
So "The Grand Master" and "tglan" i can see which side of the argument you quietly supporting "Nudge, Nudge, wink wink, Say no more"
I did not see the interview, but if you don't agree with the above listed Mankels statements then there is no doubt that you are supporting wrong side..
BTW it is historically well known that most of the centre-right parties always played a dirty game with the far right...
However, I disagree with his underlying assumption that the growth of right-wing political parties is somehow intuitively "wrong." That strikes me as fundamentally anti-democratic.
In a true democracy, all political views must be allowed to grow and flourish. If there is a significant natural, grassroots growth of right-wing political parties (or any other political party) then ipso facto there is a reason for it that cannot and should not be ignored.
You can't just go around arbitrarily and capriciously pretending that the views of any one political party don't "really" count.
If you follow me.
You are not talking about Sweden, or are you? Because if you do, you are completely wrong. We are in a country where all political views are allowed, specially by the Moderates and the Social Democrats, as seen prior to the last elections, during the elections and after the elections. These political parties, including the Left (read commie, please) and the Green, opened their minds to listen to what Jimmy Åkesson had to say.
Fredrik Reinfeldt was the most accesible to what the SD wanted to achieve and he made the media available to Åkesson. What happened after the elections is incomprehensible, because the views of the SD political party were taken into account.
I disagree with his apparent assumption that it is somehow "wrong" that there should be a growth in right-wing political parties. Who is he to make such a judgement?
That would be like couching everything you say in the assumption that centrist political parties are "wrong" and we should all endeavor to minimize the impact of centrist political parties on society because they are too wishy-washy about everything. Or something like that.
I also don't care for the way the headline is worded: "Politicians to blame for far right growth: Mankell"
It is a bit of a loaded statement. What's wrong with "far right growth"? Why exactly is the "far right" not allowed to grow?
Sounds like "Dirty livestock to blame for fecal coliform bacteria growth"
A more objective title for the article could have stated: "Mankell claims far right growth potentially harmful"
Then it would be put in the context that it is only Mr. Mankell's OPINION, and not necessarily fact, and not also the opinion of the reporting news source.
...as long as all political views are the same.
My friend J.L., I trust this this is your famous irony.
cogito. I am still warming up.
