A 60-year-old woman from southern Stockholm is suspected of having made between 1,500 and 2,000 calls to emergency services since the beginning of the year, according to a report in Swedish newspaper Metro.

On Thursday she was brought into custody pending charges for eleven cases of false alarm.

“In these eleven cases ambulances requested by her have been dispatched to aid both her and others,” said Rasmus Öhman, assistant prosecutor at southern Stockholm’s prosecution office.

The woman’s calls have also led to several police turnouts.

In total she is believed to have made between 1,500 and 2,000 calls requesting ambulances or police aid since the beginning of the year and the court believes that there is a high risk that she will “continue in her criminal activity”, reported Metro on Friday.

The woman has admitted to making the calls but contests the decision to keep her in custody. According to her she has made the calls solely when under the influence of alcohol.

“She will now undergo investigation. We will see what it shows, but the hope is that she will receive the care that she needs,” Öhman told Metro.

According to Sverker Petersson at SOS Alarm, these cases tend to occur a few times a year. Staff at emergency services alarm central must deal with all incoming calls.

“These people become known to us fairly quickly but the problem is that they rob others of our time and resources,” he told Metro.

"The woman has admitted to making the calls but contests the decision to keep her in custody. According to her she has made the calls solely when under the influence of alcohol."

So keep her locked up and away from the booze and every thing will be quiet.

That's probably how many times anyone would need to phone for an ambulance in Sweden before having the slightest chance of getting one.
09:21 August 12, 2011 by tuerd1982
Again, the criminal punishment in Sweden(actually I should say in Scandinavia) is too light and people doesn't worry about the conscienceless of their stupidity. They should introduce heavy punishment for some crime activity.

@StuartM

That's probably the cause for slower response times.

Impose a huge fine and such things will not be repeated. When will they wake up from this absurdity.Heights of tolerance.so in order for the ambulance to be sent once, one should make between 130-180 calls?? screw them both.

"The woman has admitted to making the calls but contests the decision to keep her in custody. According to her she has made the calls solely when under the influence of alcohol. "

It means that she has been drunk every damn day. 2000 calls in around 220 days proves that. She does not need any treatment at all. She should be sent to a nut house, but before, someone should accuse her for her abuse.
10:23 August 12, 2011 by andyron2
Good point J.L.Bekmar

But i doubt police know the math, that she has been drunk, everyday and most probably all day round. But instead they are ready to provide her some care she needs..all the care she wants and needs is the booze.

Sorry for the spelling mistake Belmar.

Damn there is no edit edit option for a minute atleast.

Easy solution:

Charge 5000 kroner for the first time one makes a fake emergency call.

Each time you repeat the offense, the fine gets doubled...

1. Put her in the rehab.

2. Put her in the pub always.

And hopefully she would not repeatedly call again.

Hey andyron, I have the same problem over and over againl. I decided to copy what I write, paste it on a word document, edit there and then copy and paste what I edited on the thread.

To avoid TL's usual "sorry but...", before clicking on "Submit", I mark my comment, click on "copy" and then, only then, I click on "Submit" By doing this, TL can be send to a nut house too.

I just marked this comment and, lets us see what happens.

She can't have a job if she is drunk so often, so how is she paying for all the alcohol? Unemployment benefits, perhaps?
14:02 August 12, 2011 by J. L. Belmar
13:31 August 12, 2011 by StockholmSam

No. She must reach the quota from "Försakringkassa" that specifies that a drunkard gets unemployment benefits only if he/she is drunk 700 days per year. Not more, not less. You know, they go by the book.
14:11 August 12, 2011 by Grokh
a bigger crime is when people call and get no help.

just make her pay for whenever she calls.

"a bigger crime is when people call and get no help."

YES!

It's people like her that ruin it for everyone else.

No wonder Systembolaget's sales are on the rise.
17:20 August 12, 2011 by andyron2
Yes J.L Belmar, that is a sensible way of copy paste to avoid mistakes here.

I do that sometimes for emails.

lol...will not suprise me,in the future if some political party promises to give liquor funds for unemployed and old.Yes you are right,i see longer queues in systembolaget.

How is it that the authorities did not act until 2000 calls???????

After 20 calls they should have noticed there was a problem - But 2000!?!?!?!
