Swedish man charged with killing girlfriend

The ex-boyfriend of 31-year-old Marina Johansson from Spekeröd on the west coast, missing for a year, has been charged with her murder, even though police have still not found her body.

"I deny all allegations because I have done nothing," he said during the hearing.

The charges were made after new evidence was uncovered at the woman’s house five months after she went missing.

Johansson was reported missing by her mother on August 2nd last year and two days later her ex-boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of her murder despite the fact that police found nothing incriminating in her house.

It was not until friends of Johansson moved into the house five months later that blood stains were discovered on a mattress, which had been covered by a snug-fitting blanket.

Further examination inside the house revealed what police suspect to be a bullet hole with bone fragments on a wall next to the bed.

The police and prosecutors now believe that Johansson was murdered on July 28th last year, after the couple had a row during a boat trip.

On their return police think the man shot her in the head as she lay in bed and later disposed of the body.

The accused, who has three children from a former relationship, was once again arrested and was formally charged with murder on Friday.

The 38-year-old still denies all involvement in the disappearance, while the police are still yet to find any trace of the gun, apparently belonging to Johansson herself, and which they believe to be the murder weapon.

The couple met through an internet dating site in 2006 and moved in together two years later.

Marina Johansson’s body has still not been found.

ironically, same date this year another woman has been reported missing! i recommend the police to go back to her flat and double check, not to wait five months for next tenant's report.

Um... they missed a bullet hole, with bone fragments no less, when they checked the place a year ago... and blood stains on the mattress?!?

No CSI here!

They pulled the same stunt after the Palme murder a passerby actually found a bullet in a trash can a week after the murder. Keystone cops of the highest quality!

pretty scary stuff. guess people are getting crafty at murder and it's concealment, no thanks to CSI and similar shows that graphically depict murders, their concealment and how the police resolve them. without the corpse, the weapon or cause of death, and concrete evidence, there is very little the police can do. like i mentioned elsewhere on this site, the police in Sweden must consider the spouses or last known person(s) to have seen a missing person - a suspect by default. this will go a long way in resolving some of these cases. lastly, women must be bold and confident in walking away from abusive relations. there is no need hanging around a dude on account of love only to end up dead. if your spouse in over bearing, manipulative and abusive, take the hint and end the relationship.

I find it very disturbing that charges can be mad with such lack of (reported) evidence and such police blundering. And again this type of totalitarian judicial system really questions the validity of a so called alleged democracy. I am hoping the local is reporting it wrong or in a way that is very biased, but alas I am very jaded from numerous other articles regarding legal disputes in seden to the value the legal system serves at present.
