Halland police harshest on public peeing

New figures show that police in the county of Halland have been the most fastidious in fining those that feel the need to take a leak in public.

“It doesn’t surprise me much as officers have been pretty good at issuing on-the-spot fines,” said station officer Johan Johansson to The Local on Monday.

And new figures from Swedish news agency Siren show that police in Halland issued 7.1 fines per 10,000 inhabitants over the first half of 2011.

According to the local police there hasn’t been any particular measures to prevent public urination in the county, but there has been a larger police presence around bars and clubs at night.

“This kind of behaviour is often related to those activities. We have a few places in the county that has a vibrant bar and club scene,” said Tommy Nyman of the information department to Siren.

According to Johansson it could also be a question of officers having had enough.

“I think it is just a question of officers deciding to crack down on a certain behaviour,“ Johansson told The Local.

Police in Uppsala was almost as active in fining the miscreants with 5.6 fines per 10,000 inhabitants. Värmland County came in third with 5.5.

The figures also show that taking a leak in public is less risky in the county of Dalarna and Kronoberg where only 1.4 fines per 10,000 inhabitants were issued.

In 2010 4,876 fines were issued for public peeing. During the first six months of 2011 the police caught 2,580 public urinators.

According to Johan Johansson, it is mostly men who are fined for the offense.

“I certainly have no experience of any women being fined for public urination, but of course I could be wrong,” Johansson told The Local.

I remember my first summer In Sweden 18 years ago and sitting at patio at a pub/cafe and some guy goes the railing whips it out for a leak. I was shocked but over the years I come use to the little manner people taking a leak in public. The ladies to it to. They should all be fined.

Is this because most public facilities are always closed at night? What else could be expected?

Bravo! Jail them. Put them away for life. Or, even better, sentence them to cleaning pulic lavatories.

The Swedish tradition of casually breaking wind is worse than kissing in public places .

Every one knows that it is not easy to vist a toilet in Sweden . 5 kronor it costs . Who walks arround with coins these days ? Even the cash point will not help you with this.

I suggest that there should be a general rule that all toiles should be free .Only then will the free-pissers be balmed for their nasty spray

isn't it [partially] because the damn toilets in Sweden are not free!? even in Stockholm T-centralen!

@ Tysknaden ....hahahahahahahahahahah (hedgehog, I hear ya!)

PERFECT! throw in a couple of soggy pockets of chewed up snus and a big horcked up bunch of snotty spit while you are at it. Welcome to Sweden.

@ FireBoy - not necessarily true. My Swedish neighbour who lives in the apartment above me urintes off his balcony and it comes spashing down on to mine and his toilet is ony probably 15 footsteps inside, off his balcony. But, as I have been repeatedly told, as he sits there drinking his face off and chain smoking (which pours into my apartment) till 4am...."He has the right to do what he wants in his own apartment"

Um, yeah, I will probably p!ss behind a tree somewhere if you are essentially charging me a dollar to use the bathroom.

The Pee-pay of 5 kronor is just a small environmental tax, it helps to make this country a better place. Tax dodgers are bad.

No one wants to pee outside if they can help it. But if there are no toilets. And places that have toilets only let customers in. Where is a person to pee? Its not only drunks that have to pee. I don't know how many times my child, just fifteen minutes after I beg him/her to go, said he/she needed to go now and peed in the bushes someplace half public. I am guilty also. So to stop the public peeing provide toilets. End of Story.
07:57 August 17, 2011 by nolikegohome
maybe somebody could invent a disposable bag for these poor guys/girls so they do not mess up the streets. It would be cheaper than setting up public toilets. BEcause when u got to go you got to go.
