Maud to advise Hillary on women's business

Sweden’s Centre Party leader, Maud Olofsson, due to retire from her post later this year, has been asked to sit on an advisory council for U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Olofsson has been asked to join a new group of experts who will serve as an advisory body that is charged with strengthening women’s economic status.
“I have pursued the issue of women in business throughout my time as a minister. This is really quite a recognition, not only to me as a person but to Sweden as well," Olofsson said to the paper.
Clinton wrote to Olofsson and requested that she join the newly-formed International Council on Women’s Business Leadership, which will work to increase economic empowerment for women “for a more prosperous and peaceful world.”
The group will meet once or twice a year in Washington DC and advise the U.S. State Department on a number of “key issues and challenges” surrounding the strengthening of women’s position in the global economy, added Clinton.
Other prominent members of the high-profile group include lawyer Cherie Blair, wife of Britain’s former Prime Minister Tony Blair, and CEO of Pepsi, Indra Nooyi.
The group’s first meeting is scheduled for November.
