Man admits placing spy camera in girls' shower

A middle aged man has confessed to being the person who put up a camera in a girls' shower at a sports club in western Sweden.

A tiny spy camera disguised as a towel rack was discovered last week at Bergdalens IK's clubhouse in Borås. Officials say video from the hidden device was ”for sexual purposes".

The club's chairperson, Helena Ransjö Alcenius, was on Monday contacted by the man who admitted to having carried out the filming.

"It is nice that this has been cleared up so fast. But an incident such as this stirs emotions and speculation will arise which could be tricky to manage," Ransjö Alcenius told the local Borås Tidning (BT) daily.

According to the newspaper, the middle-aged man came clean as he was no longer able to carry the burden of guilt on his conscience.

The incognito camera, a type of spy camera that can be ordered online, was discovered after a junior male training session.

The lens was disguised as a towel rack that looked as if it were about to fall off and hung about one metre above the ground recording both video and audio footage.

Men use the women’s shower room when ladies are off from their training, but it is primarily used by females ranging from 6-years-old up to adults.

The club immediately contacted the police and promised transparency during the investigation to identify.

”We do not know how long it lasted nor how many have been filmed,” Borås police investigator Sture Thorstensson told BT at the time.

He has claimed in police interviews that no photos were taken of underage girls and that no pictures have been published on the internet.

Criminal charges could include sexual assault, sexual harassment and violation of the video surveillance law.
