Snus 'worse than smoking' for infant apnea

Infants born to mothers who used moist snuff or 'snus' while pregnant are at a greater risk of suffering from apnea than children whose mothers merely smoked during gestation, a new Swedish study shows.

The study revealed that the risk of apnea is 50 percent higher for children of smoking mothers than from children of mothers who neither smoked nor used snuff during pregnancy.
However, in stark contrast, the risk is twice as large for children whose mothers use the smokeless oral tobacco product while pregnant.
Research director Anna Gunnerberck with the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm told the Reutuers news agency, that snuff, which is often considered by many to be less harmful than cigarettes during pregnancy, is not a good option when considering the health of the unborn child.
”It may have a slightly different effect than smoking but it is still not safe during pregnancy,” she said.
Researchers wrote that it is likely that nicotine patches and nicotine gum also increase the risk of apnea in the child and that these products should not be considered an alternative to smoking for expectant mothers.
Apnea in infants can lead to sleep disturbances and make them more vulnerable to infection.
Although it's perfectly normal for everyone to experience occasional pauses in breathing, this unexplained cessation of breathing can become a problem when breathing stops for 20 seconds or longer.
The study is published in the Pediatrics journal.

No where do the researchers mention possible low seratonin levels in their research which has been shown to cause breathing disturbances in newborns and young children!
Dr Fritz Linkint first came up with the idea of passive smoking (passivrauchen). He was Adolph Hitlers man in the nazi war on Tobacco.
Passive smoking is essential to the anti-smoking cause. As early as 1975, at the UN World Conference on Smoking and Health, Sir George Godber, suggested that, in order to eliminate smoking "it would be essential to foster an atmosphere where it was PERCEIVED that active smokers would injure those around them, especially their family and any infants or young children who would be exposed involuntarily to environmental tobacco smoke".
Without passivrauchen there could be no ban and so the research began with billions wasted to promote JUNK SCIENCE.The 1993 EPA ETS STUDY,tossed as junk science by a federal court for fudging the numbers and cherry picking the studies.
But lets not forget that weve had smoking bans in America before and as always they get repealed,the question is why are we repeating the same failed social experiments yet again,have we learned nothing!

It is obvious that the sample examined who smoked or did snus did not have the brains to realize that their lifestyles and habits directly affect their offspring.
Problem is that this stupidity follows from generation to generation.
As all anti-tobacco claims and studies go this one is just more dung piled high on the rest of it.Sweden should repeal their ban and embrace capitalistic values to aid their economy and reestablish personal freeom amd liberty to its people. Let alone returning property rights back to business owners so they can decide their s,oking policy.

What you tend to forget is that whether women smoke or not is NONE OF YOURS or the GOVERNMENTS business!
You are wrong! In this country, what we smoke, drink, wear, breath, do, think, eat, or whatever, is GOVERNMENTS business. As simply as that.
Smoke can be smelled even when you are outside on a windy day. Let alone inside. Smoke can usually also be seen, these are all fine particulates (carbonous materials). With most cars you don't even see the exhaust fumes anymore!!
Don't forget that a smoker usually inhales his smoke through a filter where many of the large particulates are filtered out, second-hand smoke however contains all these materials because it hasn't passed through a filter.
Nicotine is another thing of course.....I don't think second hand smokers really have a problem because of that.
Anyway, if you have the slightest idea how many regulations companies have to obey before being able to launch a new product...being it a new beverage, a dish washing liquid or tennis shoes. If you know how much it costs to register a new compound for use in a consumer product (even though everyone knows it is safe already), and if you then think that insetead we let people smoke in the vicinity of others or we allow people to drive around on studded tires you wll understand how crazy that is.

Sure! I agree! But then we also agree that all smoking related illnesses that the smokers end up with do not burden the taxpayer (me and all others), since these tend to draw on a disproportionate amount of resources that require long-term treatment and care, and that they should be paid out of one's one capitalistic, liberty-filled pocket. Additionally, I don't want to smell smoke, nor expose my child to second hand snoke (notwithstanding that this is all Nazi propaganda), which means that all the libertarian smokers need to wear a glass bubble on their head that filters out particulate residue before it is released into the atmosphere.
