if your dog bites someone you the owner are charged with assault.
If your dog kills someone you the owner are charged with murder.
If a person wants to have a dog they have to take on full responsibility and punishment for any of it actions as if they themselves had done it.
Maybe these irresponsible, mentally challenged people will be a bit more careful in future.
and for those who think "oh...not my dog, mine is gentle and not aggressive"...
That's what most dog owners whose dogs maimed and killed also thought..you can never know what a dog will do...even after years of showing no signs of aggression at all.
If you think you do know..you are one of the mentally challenged.
Animal lovers are often accused of loving animals and disregarding people, but perhaps it's easy to see why.
It's really not the dog that is the criminal, it comes down to the dog owner and how they handle their animals in public places, and are to be held accountable.
Most owners of Rottweilers, at least the one's I've seen, are not very responsible dog owners. These animals are a special breed and need more attention than other domestic pets.
If the dog bites someone the owner fined/sued for the first offense and for the second, a 6 month jail term.
If the dog kills someone, it should immediately be put down and the owner sued and sent to prison for involuntary manslaughter as Swedish law permits, which seems close to what has happened in the article.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, the dogs that scare us the most tend to be sought out by people that wish to scare us. Rarely do I see a rott, dobie, pitt, presacanaria, dogo, etc in the company of a mature, well-educated, responsible adult. Most of the time, I get the sense that owners of these dogs are a bit off-kilter, somewhat aggressive or uncontrolled themselves. We have this innate ability to sense that about other people and I think people who own the kinds of dogs that scare us the most are the least willing to control the dog's aggressive nature. Instead, they want to cultivate it and use it as a tool to boost their own power in the human-to-human relationship.
They are sad, sad people who own these dogs. The law should stipulate that all dogs over a certain weight/size limit should be required to wear chest harnesses and muzzles. And the owners should have a special license that requires a training program for both dog and owner.
B*tchslap might have a point too about the owners being the same!
