Petzäll backed by Sweden Democrat rebels

Published: 28 Sep 11 10:14 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/36404/20110928/

A network of former Sweden Democrats (SD) has offered support to 23-year-old William Petzäll after his decision to leave the party and remain in the Riksdag as an independent, encouraging him to stand strong against the party hierarchy.

"I recommend them to remain in their seat so that no one else can replace them," said Stig-Erik Werner, a former Sweden Democrat now independent councillor in Tidaholms municipality, to the Expressen daily.

Werner was kicked out of the Sweden Democrats in September and is one of the administrators of a group calling themselves "Nationalkåren" (literally: national corps), a network of former Sweden Democrats formed to oppose the party.

"Go for it William Petzäll!!! If you want you are welcome in the National Corps," Werner wrote on Petzäll's Facebook page shortly after his decision was reported by Expressen on Monday.

On Wednesday morning William Petzäll was listed as a member on the group's Facebook page.

"Nationalkåren", a self-proclaimed nationalist organisation, now lists several former Sweden Democrats among its membership and actively seeks contact with others who have been excluded from the party for various reasons.

Werner explained to the newspaper that the purpose of the group is to encourage ex-Sweden Democrats to remain in their elected positions and thus block the party from appointing more "obedient" members as replacements.

William Petzäll announced on Monday that he had decided to leave the party and remain in the Riksdag as an independent.

The 23-year-old explained his decision that he plans to use his seat in the Riksdag to "push my pet issue and increase awareness. To develop more concrete measures to help young alcoholics and drug addicts."

Petzäll was forced to take time out from politics in February after he turned up at a party in Trelleborg drunk and disorderly, later spending the night in a police jail cell to sober up.

After failing to adhere to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation programme the party hierarchy called on Petzäll to resign his seat and step aside. The young MP refused.

According to senior party member Erik Almqvist, Petzäll demanded up to 3 million kronor from the party as his price for vacating his seat. A demand that the party refused to agree to.

In an interview with the Nyheter 24 news website on Tuesday, Petzäll rejected the claim and responded by threatening to reveal party secrets if the "smear campaign" against him continued.

While Petzäll is the first of the 20 Sweden Democrat MPs to leave the party, he is the latest of a series of high-profile departures from the party since the 2010 election.

Many of the ejected party members have elected to remain in their positions at municipal and county councils across Sweden, refusing to adhere to party demands to step aside.

Among the more notable dissenters are Thomas Karlsen who was group leader for SD in Trollhättan in western Sweden and was kicked out of the party after comments on social media referring to the July terror attacks in Norway.

Further high profile rebels include David Kronlid in Örebro, Olle Larsson in Härjedalen and Mikael Säbom in Strömsund.

SD press secretary Eric Myrin in August called on all the SD rebels to vacate their seats and on Monday the party issued a statement calling on Petzäll to "take his responsibility" and do the same.

"The Sweden Democrats regret that William Petzäll is now choosing to remain in the Riksdag without party affiliation. We continue to hope that he will take his responsibility to himself and the party's voters," a statement from the party on Monday read.

No offense to the little fella, but he is 22 years old. He maybe still is living at home with mommy and daddy. He was in dagis only a few short years ago and could not possibly have the level of life experience to qualify him to be able to have the level of maturity and knowledge a member government needs to make rational mature decisions that can possibly affect an entire country. Evidently he has a "partying" problem rather than a party problem. Not that surprising. HELLO! He is just out of his teens! He is still in the teenage mindset, which is definitely not a state of mind that would be a benefit to entrusting matters of governing a country. The very idea that anyone would think this was even possible is somewhat frightening.

Possibly in a few years when his hormones have mellowed and he has a reasonable level of actual, REAL life experience, he may be well equipped to be a good politician. But ri

Looks like the SD can't agree among themselves... this is what I would call collapsing from the inside out.

@ #21

Sorry about the mistake in age,(he is 23) and the post being cut off . That is what happens when you don't wear your glasses ;-) I was going to say, But right now, he may just be too young and inexperienced. Look at that sweet little face. He is not much more than a baby. The fate of a country needs to be in the hands of those who have lived enough to (hopefully) understand life well enough to make rational, quality decisions. Quite possibly this lad is too young to be able too.

@jacquelinee , unfortunately , that sweet little face is the face of a racist ., a hater and an addict who thought that all problems are caused by people with tough broad faces.

@jacquelinee

Baby faces and inexperience are strict requirements for membership of SD. Just look at their great leader.

That is my point exactly. No one at 23 years of age has a clue who they will end up being as an adult. Life teaches us many things. Most of the most valuable lessons I have learned have come out of the depths of hardship and despair, This one, quite possibly, has had none of that.

Life also teaches us that sometimes those we believe are close, trustworthy friends can be the enemy and those who we disliked and criticised are the ones who help us and sometimes even save us. Hopefully life will teach this lad and those life him to look past the propaganda, the influences, the prejudices, the media hype and the endoctrination. Hopefully as this lad and those like him become adults (because he is really still a child) he will grow up enough to form his own opinions and values. Maybe, just maybe, the voice of what is true, honest, right and fair in his OWN mind from his OWN conclusions, and according to the reality of HIS life experience, will be the voice that he decides to listen to.

@ jacquelinee,

you are a star ;) i just love to read your comments (articles, to me at least).

i also highly recommend the local to have you aboard (if you will).

@jacquelinee , I agree that Baby Face is still a child who probably does not understand that hate destroys the hater before it hurts his victim.

I am bothered by how Sweden has opted for lowering the bar. 21 year olds should only enter parliament as youth reprentatives. 28 year olds should not be leading major political parties.

I was 21 once . I know exactly how the mind of a 21 year old works.

Any serious person who is interested in helping this Baby to grow up and become a responsible representative of intelligent people should not be advising him to retain his seat. He needs to go somewhere else where he shall not manipulate or be manipulated. Right now , he thinks he is some kind of star standing in the middle of a noisy disco. The ones that are asking him to stay and are making him feel like it is a blessing that he is an addict.

You probably remember another young man who wanted his picture to be seen by the whole World . That one shot down over 70 people to achieve his wish.

You can see he's an SD guy just by looking at the photo. Really, you can. There's something about that clean-cut, made-up boy-in-a-suit look that just reeks far right.

I have to agree. I'm 21, and not even the same person I was less than 2 years ago. This is an age when you are going through several different evolutions to determine who you're going to be.

We can argue on small financial matters endlessly but at the same time should look into bigger pictures too.

It's time to change the Old foreign policies and domestic too involving money matters.

A new kind of world politics beyond territorial interests is just waiting around the corner to get into business in full swing!

Example:Bangladesh has now enough tax money and can now afford to get its inland terrorists for power and money or private insurgents in hard labor camps but not under leaderships of fathers of nations though.

Look, Saudi leadership is now becoming shaky and so will be many. A wise decision-'not to punish women for driving' and to be followed by many new decisions soon!

Everyone better believe in the cosmic queue for evolutionary transitions taking place now through human for the human @ 50% cosmic rule.

Read European News: If German were a municipal-like Government under new UN power, its hard working people could keep all the money they are earning for themselves. When it comes to credit, there is no difference between a guy and a country, because countries' states mean representations of a few human minds. The true help that you can offer to your poor neighbour, is convince and get them into working for themselves.

No thing or money is enjoyable or truly belongs to you, unless you earn it honestly by your own hard work!

When a political Party is climbing up favourably in the public's mind ,there are

bound to have minor internal disputes and disagreement but don't you worry as

time will proof that the Sweden Democrat would emerge stronger. The reasons

being that the Party is being look upon as the only party that understands the

Swedish Public problem and etc.
