I am just curious, if you dont watch football then why do you want to see England beaten so badly?
Being English myself I am aware that as a nation we are not popular. I dont know if this stems from England's dark past or if its thanks to our Hooligans and notorious boozing traveling Brits. I get the feeling in Sweden that at times English males are somewhat admired and despised by the same people. Many Swedish males love watching English league Football (not just the top flight and have done for 20 years) yet seem to share a common hatred for the English national team.
I am a civilized, polite and friendly person yet some Swedes I have spoken too seem to have the impression that I step off a plane and punch security in the face whilst holding a can of lager.
Any thoughts from any Swedes here?
Eh sorry to tell you this but as an Englishman traveling around I'm constantly made aware that the English are very popular. The only time I experience a problem its with other immigrants to Sweden who are slightly jealous at the English popularity here and elsewhere, so have a go. The usual suspects are the Irish, Scots, and sometimes Australians. I ignore them. No problems with Europeans in general and Swedes in particular at all.
"I dont know if this stems from England's dark past"
Wrong again, England has a particularly glorious past. Again a fact recognized by all but the Scots and the Irish. And Britain as a nation was instrumental in saving Europe from itself in 1939-45, a fact many Europeans, if not their governments, recognize. As for football hooliganism it is dead in England, but not alas elsewhere, including Sweden.
Just to prove it ...'Dwi'n byw yn Sweden rwan , rhyfedd y ffordd mae pethau'n gweithio allan te ? :-)
