REFLECTIONS OF A TWITTER VIRGIN…. »
"I confess to having been reluctant to embrace Twitter. But I confess myself a bit of a convert. The great TV critic Clive James once said about “Dallas”, “I came to mock but I stayed to pray”. I wouldn’t go that far, but I have found my first two weeks on Twitter (@hmapauljohnston) both fun and informative. It’s been..." READ »

You really need to change that headline.
"charged FOR sex..." means the boy asked for money.
"charged with sex..." means he has been charged with a criminal offence.
Just imagine a young couple which boy is 14,5 years old and girl is 14 ears 364 day old having sex overnight ... is 23,55 girl is innocent lover. is 00,01 she is a child rapper ......
Also I ´d like to see if there will be any sentence on boy in this matter how it would be compared with an average sentence if woman is having sex with boy bellow 15... I d say is almost 99 pct of matters the woman"rappist"sententence woud be more lighter...
Yes I agree that the Local should change the headline. But you need to add more. You can't say "Charged for sex with..."
They have actually left a word out "Charged with HAVING sex with..." But I am guessingthat the actual charge is rape. Therefore he has been charge with rape for having sex with a 13 year old. "For" in this case does not imply that she paid for it.
Regardless of the headline both of them are in the wrong. He is older and should know better and know that what he was doing is wrong. Therefore I have no sympathy and he should face the full force of the law. That said, she could also be held to account too. I am sure there was an adult who she could have approached if she felt she was being pressured in to doing something she knew was wrong and didn't want to do. Regretting something after you have done it is human nature. We all do things we regret at some stage.
"Regretting something after you have done it is human nature"
And blaming someone else for that is much more human nature...
LOL!!! I get your point but.... "child rapper"..... Teh He He!!!
If that's true, the messages of the law are:
1) Rape is NOT A SERIOUS CRIME per se when it's committed on a person younger than 15, since it can be a petty intercourse !
2) Young real rape victims learn that they're considered as rape victims because of their AGE, and not because of the COERCION they have suffered ?!!!!
3) Some RAPES become LEGAL when their "victims" reaches 15 years old !
4) A "child rape" (sic !) conviction can be LEGALISED SLANDER !
5) How many Swedes are unconsciously rapists or rape victims, or both at the same time ?
Is this heinous law applied as such ? Or does justice consider that cases where consent is obvious in the intercourse must be dealt with less serious charges ?
but at least when they are over 18 they cant regreat it and put you in jail.
i guess this should be seen as a lesson for both, and maybe it will prevent the kid from ever pressuring a woman for sex again but who knows.
"he will feel shame when he sees friends".
Unless you are one of his friends and actually see his shamed face I don't think you can make that assertion. So many factors can condition their response to him and his action. What socio-economic group are they from? What morality code are they following? Are they in a gang? (If so, how do we know this wasn't some initiation rite for him --- definitely was for the girl but that's a separate issue.)
I don't want to make the victim party to the crime but why didn't she say something to her parents about the suggestive text she was getting? And why weren't the parents supervising her phone usage? Were they no paying the bill?
What would have happened if the mother had not found the texts on the phone? Would the girl have kept the event secret?
'...in sweden age of consent is 15 years which in my view is completely wrong ive never met a mature 15 year old in my life, hell some 20 year olds are not ready'.
Well said! A bloody mad law that gives kids a false sense of adulthood.
He should have gotten her drunk first, then it would be no crime except giving booze to a minor. Remember, thats the law in Sweden.
"It was not fully consensual as the girl was (a) pressurised by the boy (b) then subjected to blackmail."
True for a) but b) (blackmail) was to get the girl to have sex with him on a subsequent occasion.
@yourkidding
Got her so drunk that she was insensible then there would have been no molestation when he removed her clothing ... but I suppose that only applies if he took photographs too.
I wonder if the 13 year old is only saying "buyer's remorse" because her parents found out she lost her V-card? She only came forward after her mother looked at her cell phone, maybe she blamed the boy so she wouldn't get in trouble?
Regardless, no 13 year old is physically or emotionally stable enough to have sex.
Stories like this make me feel bad for my future children because I'm so going to be a helicopter mom!!!
"What 17 year old would even be interested in a 13 year old?"
Can we be that dogmatic in making assertions about this case in particular or anything in general concerning the sexual activity of teenagers. For example, it is not that long since The Local published a news story about a 35 year old man paying two 16 year old males to rape an under-age girl on camera. The 35 year old clearly had some sort of fetishistic interest in under-age girls having sex and the younger men clearly were interested in the cash, if not also the sex act itself. Report is here http://www.thelocal.se/36928/20111024/
You are right, I posted on emotion, and didn't really think it through. I was thinking of myself and the people I knew at 17 years old. I sometimes forget the world we live in.
I remember that article...a reminder that there are truly sick people out there, and maybe people need to keep a better eye on their children, of course when they're not the ones hurting their children in the first place.
I know how easy it is to impose one's own emotions and morality onto others. I do it here all the time.
One other comment on your item; and in similar vein. Christmas is coming. A time when certain parts of the world celebrate the birth of a child by a particular young woman. Church tradition has it that that young woman was no more than 13 or 14 at the time! And that the man regarded as her husband was not 17 but over 30, having spent time earning enough money to build a house (actually an extension on his own father's house) in which he and his (very) young wife would live. Wide age differences between husband and wife was not an uncommon occurence in 1st century Israel. Given the record in the subsequent narrative this mis-matched aged pair were (to use a colloquial English expression) "at it like rabbits."
