Those who are against paedophiles go to jail?
Those who are paedophiles can live and be happy?
The problem with this name and shame idea is that it often names the wrong people which leads to terrible consequences for innocent people as happened when the News of the World had a campaign and 'named the wrong people.
It's not them that are against paedophiles that go to jail, it's them that violate privacy. Don't confuse things.
@#2
If I am to complain about this site makes me pervert? Are there no laws in this country that can handle these things? Does anyone have the right to act as a sheriff?
I'm not sure that "Privacy" of paedophiles should be secured by swedish government. They are criminals!
I believe that any swedish citizen has right to know if his neighbor is criminal. Don't you think so?
Do you think that poor swedish citizens don't have such right?
There are many examples of normal civilians, and of course besides that there is the church.
The problem with these things in that it makes a person feel good (hey look at me I am taking action against those perverts), but they give you a false sense of security.
(look there are no perverts in my neighboorhoud, I will let my child go around by himself without keeping an eye on him).
fedotovsky....please point your anger at the parents that send their children to sunday school with priests and didnot believe the stories their children were telling them. (how can a priest abuse children??....he says abusing children is wrong and he is a man of God).
You advocate pointless measures only to give yourself a good feeling, while it is much better to think over a bit what is going on here.
What does "handle personal information" mean? Does this mean someone can't blog about people who have been convicted? Surely personal numbers is the only info that isn't already public, or not?
The problem with naming people as sex offenders on such lists is also defining sex offender. If a 15 year-old (age of consent) has sex with a 14-year old (below age of consent) should the older kid be considered an offender? (No!) Kids in the US have been given this life-long label though for such "crimes". What about with sexting? There was a teen who sent nude photos of herself to her friends and then she was charged with dispersing child pornagraphy, which if found guilty would give her the title of sex-offender as well.
(Kids under 18 in the US can get married if their parents sign for them. So if you're married and underage, then sex is fine. But if you're not married and underage, then you risk being a sex offender if you're older than your partner. Stupid. Maybe Swedish laws are more realistic than prudish US ways, in this regard...)
Personal numbers are public information.
O don't make me laugh.
Then you know where the part of the peadophiles that have been caught and for some reason are not in prison anymore live. And what is that? 50%? 20% 1%
and those people have been released for a reason.....the state probably considered them not dangerous anymore (and knowing the US justice system they won't do that easy).
So now tell me again? In what way does this help you to protect your family?
What it does is it gives you a false sense of safety at the cost of probably many people who are on that list by mistake or people that get mistaken for someone who is on this list.
But yes, that works for most simple folks who need to have their hunger for revenge and simple solutions satisfied.......that the solutions don't work doesn't matter for them.
Considering the recidivism rate of child molesters over a lifetime can be as high a 52% depending on the study, knowing who your neighbors are is never a bad thing. Sex offender registries will not protect your children from offenders who have never been caught, but your comments are ridiculously uninformed.
Percentages like this are the base reason for being required to be in a sex offender registry, even after time served. Law enforcement and private organisations, track offenders because they are likely to offend again. And let's face it, when a grown up molests a child, 2, 5, or 10 years in prison will never regain that child's innocence. Why should one more child be thrown under the bus, because the privacy of a pervert to troll for more victims might be infringed upon?
It has nothing to do with revenge. The parents of the child victim know who the pervert was that messed up their child's life. If they wanted revenge the parents could easily hunt the bastard down and satisfy any desire for revenge they have. Lists are about warning others of dangerous scum living in their neighborhoods. I wonder why you wish to protect these people's privacy?
I mean hello...an article above this one spoke about parents having GPS on their children's cell phones, so obviously child molestors are one of the reasons why. Not just if little Johnny decided to toke up with his buddy after football practice.
I nevere wrote that I was concerned with the privacy and rights of sex offenders.
The only thing I am concerned about is that my child is safe and I am too smart to believe that these stupid initiatives will do more good than harm.
For me the safety of mu child is more important than having the satisfaction of revenge.
Child sex offenders need to be closely monitired by the government as well as peadophiles who are not offenders yet. If you only focus on punishment and humiliation, crime against children will not only go up, it will also become worse.
