Naked man in 'pot-fuelled' train sex attack

Published: 23 Nov 11 14:33 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/37524/20111123/

A 30-year-old man from western Sweden has been detained after he stripped down naked and started asking people to have sex with him before attacking a female passenger and a conductor on a train traveling in central Sweden.

The incident occurred last Saturday on a train travelling from Gothenburg to Örebro in central Sweden, the Göteborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper reported.

According to police, the man smoked marijuana somewhere between Herrljunga and Skövde, after which he began behaving erratically.

“He got high during the trip, he threatened and assaulted a conductor and he assaulted a woman,” police spokesperson Lars Johansson told the paper.

After the initial assault, the man then took off all his clothes and began roaming through the train asking people if they wanted to have sex with him.

“He asked if we wanted to have sex, but I politely declined,” one passenger told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Eventually, the man tried to force a woman to perform oral sex on him.

According to Johansson, the man also threatened to kill everyone who left the train.

When the train stopped in Skövde, most of the passengers nevertheless evacuated. When police arrived they found the 30-year-old alone on the train talking to a woman he had trapped in the corner.

When police attempted to apprehend the men, he resisted, forcing them to use pepper spray.

On Tuesday, he was ordered held on remand by the Skaraborg District Court on suspicion of assault, attempted rape, and threatening behaviour.

The 30-year-old has submitted a blood test to confirm whether or not he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

“But it's quite likely he was under the influence of something. This sort of behaviour isn't normal,” a prosecutor told local news website Skövdenyheter.se.

Police have interviewed several witnesses in the case and prosecutors are expected to file charges no later than December 6th, according to GP.

The immigrant man has been in trouble before when commuting, but then it was on a bus. Hopefully they will lock him up for a long time and then escort him back to Somalia.
15:24 November 23, 2011 by Svensksmith
Maybe he's a Rastafarian just excercising his right to smoke ganja.
15:34 November 23, 2011 by ivey007
Had he been drunk would he have been in the same trouble and would people start pointing the finger saying "if you drink alcohol you will attack people and rape etc". Oh wait that happens all the time yet alcohol is legal.

You never see headlines saying, man rapes due to drinking Pripps or Heineken etc

There is no way this man would have been capable of any crime, its all because of the pot.
15:35 November 23, 2011 by AmericanSwede16
I don't think this was weed that fueled this attack LOL. Just a sick guy. Can't blame weed for that. It's ridiculous.
15:37 November 23, 2011 by London_Jim
Eh? We read about alcohol-fuelled crime all the time.

It would seem that he has a mental disorder as it is, but probably triggered by psychosis brought on by smoking.
15:40 November 23, 2011 by J Jack
Just give him some sex! Situation handled this way in NYC would have resulted in a shooting .. 'After the initial assault, the man then took off all his clothes and began roaming through the train asking people if they wanted to have sex with him'.

"He asked if we wanted to have sex, but I politely declined," Hey at least he asked. That's not attempted rape or threatening behavior. Just asking. Still being naked is a bit distracting and what about indecent exposure, isn't that a crime? And I bet he had a hard on.
16:03 November 23, 2011 by Dazzler
Thats fairly ambitious for someone who was reportedly high on weed.
16:10 November 23, 2011 by Streja
J Jack, you haven't read the article properly. I feel that if I point out the mistake you've made in your post then you won't learn anything.

And then I got high.

So I asked the girl in front

but she declined.....

Because I got high

Why does The Local have a photo of a white man smoking a cigarette or joint when the lunatic on the train obviously was black?
17:36 November 23, 2011 by Åskar
@Kublai

Why do you assume that?

Naked man in "prescription drug fuelled" train sex attack.

Naked man in "alcohol fuelled" train sex attack.

The headline should of been something like this.

"Crazy messed up naked man in train sex attack"

Check for yourself.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article13973505.ab

He also screamed that he was a "somalie warrior" during the attacks. He has been doing these kind of crimes since he was 15 back in 1996.

Another case of media sensationalism in aid of Sweden's misguided legislation on 'drugs.' Why does the Local not report on facts such as the importance of (endo)cannabinoids for practically all psychological and physiological functioning, or on Denson and Earleywine's (2006) report which found that (exo)cannabinoids work for many as an anti-depressant?

Such simplistic reasoning may be suited to schoolchildren, but this is not necessarily the audience of the Local, nor of the major newspapers in Sweden. Correlation is not equivalent to causation... this, to put it simply, means that just because certain variables are correlated to an activity DOES NOT MEAN that they CAUSE that activity. Furthermore there is ample research suggesting that for the very small minority who have adverse and psychotic experiences correlated with marijuana, these likely have predispositions to psychosis in the first place!

On the other hand, the Swedish state is happy to sell alcohol, a known poison, which is highly correlated with fatalities to its population.

But we must remember that smoking dope is no more harmful or dangerous than drinking alcohol, right? Bravo Sierra!
23:41 November 23, 2011 by jetboy
Of course the pot is secondary to a primary mental illness.

The article said he "took off all his clothes and began roaming through the train asking people if they wanted to have sex with him," but doesn't mention if he was aroused or flaccid. You'd think people would have commented on that.

I love how one person "politely declined."
00:02 November 24, 2011 by Svensksmith
He didn't ask me. I feel slighted.
00:31 November 24, 2011 by whoye
ohh come on, it has nothing to do with marijuana. its non violent soft drug, it seems a speculation to me. you wouldnt take any violent action by smoking a weed, unless maybe you promised a mars bar factory or something
02:16 November 24, 2011 by Migga
This hasn`t got anything to do with marijuana or some mental sickness. This is a criminal who made a decision out of free will. For his actions he should be thrown into jail for a long time. Record his DNA, put him under surveillance and make sure he doesn`t commit another crime ever again.
02:35 November 24, 2011 by Larry Thrash
Just what do we do with these dope smoking heterosexuals? :)
05:01 November 24, 2011 by Njal
Canada has recently just passed a law where, any immigrant who is responsible for a violent attack causing bodily harm(in response to all the muslin honour killins), may not sponsor anyone else from their home countries to immigrate, including up to 5 years after any prison time served. Include deportation in the new law, and that would be just, tho' the injured party would still have to have suffered the indignity of being so violated. Maybe Sweden could take a page from this book.
08:22 November 24, 2011 by karex
LOL, this is the train I usually commute on (though not on Saturdays and perhaps it was the wrong time). Still...

I agree with several comments here: the man didn't act this way because of smoking pot, there is obviously something wrong with him. What the pot probably did is help him drop his inhibitions. Alcohol has the same effect. The question is: if this particular person has been exhibiting psychotic behaviour since he was 15, why was he allowed to be free to endanger the general population?
09:52 November 24, 2011 by HYBRED
If he wanted sex, the rest of the passengers should have bent him over and give it to him. maybe with an umbrella or other close by object.
10:23 November 24, 2011 by Flappytango
police had to pepper spray.. why cant they ever give a good ol fasion beat down?
10:39 November 24, 2011 by sbf325
Got a nice chuckle from this one. The way Swedish media sensationalizes marijuana use reminds me of 1930's America... I half expect to see an article about young maidens half-crazed on 'the pot' driven to mad sex with crazed jazz musicians, à la 'Reefer Madness'. This chap sounds like he either had serious mental problems long before he lit up Saturday, or maybe he just sprinkled a little PCP on his weed. Attributing his bizarre behaviour to marijuana shows extreme ignorance regarding its effects. BTW I find it interesting that the commentators seem to know infinitely more about the details of the suspect than the writer of this article, or even the police.
12:05 November 24, 2011 by Danne8
I like the fact that the article didn't bring up any immigration/race characteristics. That way it was perfect to identify the inhuman racist sickos that magnify the incident because he is black, from Somalia, and an immigrant in Sweden. Stick to the issue and stop using the racist approach when leaving a comment.. it just feels totally uncalled for.
16:10 November 24, 2011 by Migga
@ sbf325

I know because I`ve looked at the man`s, Billy Bile Bilisio previously Bile Ali Abtidoon, criminal record.

@ Danne8

So you feel that it`s right that a policeman tells the media that the man shouted "I`m a somalie warrior" but then the media censurs it to "I`m a warrior"? By not telling the entire story, etnicity or whatever, you give the readers a skewed view of the world. People has to right to know everything, information should be free. It`s then up to the readers to focus on what`s important in the case. The media shouldn`t have the power to tell the people what`s important and what should be known or not. A perpetrators age, education, etnicity, sex and income are all equally important.
20:25 November 24, 2011 by sbf325
@ Migga

I agree with you on this last point, playing ostrich and pretending the world doesn't exist as it does is incredibly naive. When Mommy State decides reality doesn't fit with its own desired perception of the world -- and censures public information accordingly -- that's when we start getting into real trouble. I, for one, am not a child, and I don't particularly like being treated as such by anyone -- much less by my own government. Report the news accurately and let me make up my own mind. Each incident of such hand-holding -- attempting to hide an uncomfortable truth -- serves not to protect me but to make me mistrust our news media more.
21:01 November 24, 2011 by Migga
@ sbf325

Exactly my point. I don`t care if he was somalie or black. But I do care when I`m not getting the entire story or the truth. And you have a point, it`s like being treated like a child. It`s like the media thinks I`m not in a position to handle the information given to me. That I´m not mature or intelligent enough.

What I care about is if the man said he was a "somalie warrior", then I want to read it and not some censured version of what he said. Same goes if it would be someone who shouted "swedish warrior" or "japanese warrior". As it is now the media is adding to the sensitivity of some words by removing them.

When not meantioning if someone is Cuban, for example, when they are people will start to suspect that the fault lies with someone because they are Cuban. Because that`s what the media is holding out. And then you have a real problem. In an open and tolerant society the information needs to be free.
15:48 November 25, 2011 by NachoMan
Göteborgs-Posten says that when the train stopped all other passengers on that car got off, leaving one woman behind whom this nutcase had cornered. "If someone's gotta be raped it might as well be her." How's that for character?
22:59 November 25, 2011 by swedejane
The headline could just as easily have read, "Naked man in 'tv-fuelled' train sex attack", or "Naked man in 'alcohol' train sex attack", etc. and have it made just as much sense. Correlation is not causation. I smoked pot daily for 18 years and never...never...even remotely came close to doing something like this. This person is mentally ill and could have just as easily been taking aspirin as smoking pot and had the same result. Sweden and its naive attitude towards drugs is ridiculous.
07:53 March 4, 2012 by travelworld42
I refuse to believe he was only high on pot for one second! and if he did smoke pot and do this, best chances are he got it on the black market and it was laced with real drugs, which would be all thanks to prohibition and the swedish government! I wrote the person who wrote this and asked about the other drugs they found in his system and who was he and more info and I never got a reply, that was while ago :(
