Police swamped by 'impossible' deportations

Sweden's law enforcement agencies are struggling to deal with a record-high number of pending deportation orders, with nearly 18,000 cases still waiting to be carried out.

Many of the deportation orders that the police receive from the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket) are difficult or impossible to carry out, police told Sveriges Radio (SR) investigative news programme Kaliber, which contacted all of Sweden's border police units and expatriation centres.

In addition, of the roughly 18,00 people awaiting deportation, police only know the whereabouts of around 7,000.

Those set to be deported often lack genuine identity and travel documents, and many counties to which they are to be sent won't accept the would-be deportees.

“Some of these cases where we see there are real difficulties in achieving the desired result are basically set aside until the statues of limitations run out and they are written off,” Lars Skoglund, head of the border police for Västra Götaland county, told SR.

Police also criticized the Migration Board for conducting substandard investigations, resulting in some of the work being dumped on police.

But Migration Board general counsel Mikael Ribbenvik rejected complaints from the police, arguing that while processing times at his agency have dropped significantly, nothing has been lost in terms of quality.

“We put a lot of time into our investigations, it's the lead times and time estimates for different steps that we've changed,” Ribbenvik told the TT news agency.

He added that Sweden's migration courts now change or reverse fewer of the agency's rulings.

According to Ribbenvik, neither the Migration Board nor the police can say with certainty how many of the 18,000 people awaiting deportation from Sweden actually remain in the country.

“We don't know where they've gone,” he said.

He also pointed out that in certain cases it can be “totally impossible” to carry out deportations.

“There isn't any country in the world that would accept a person without being certain that he or she is a citizen of that country,” said Ribbenvik, adding that he understands the police's frustration.

“They have a tougher job than we do. They have to deal with people who won't cooperate.”

Hence why you don't open the gates for people to come in and then decide if you should keep them once they are here. Perhaps a guest worker program where they apply from their home country.

Also if these are asylum seekers, how does this happen... "There isn't any country in the world that would accept a person without being certain that he or she is a citizen of that country,". So how do they get asylum unless they say where they are in danger at?

The obvious solution would be to send them to "Palestine", they should fit right in.

sweden is a country which respects and welcomes only asylum seekers and prospective aid-suckers, instead of innovative progressive people who can take the country to the next level of development. anyway, the way things are going, there wont be enough tax payers in this country to sustain the social services people have been so merrily used to.

Honestly thinking,It seems to me that these people who has come from far away with too much difficulties, they are hard workers. They want really to work.

Therefore, obviously many employers rely on them and depend on them, and their work is satisfactory. May be even it is not advisable to pour them out of the market and making the market gets shocked of shortage of workers, they work hard and they have low expectations.

The best way may be, is to let them stay so they can more actively be creative in addition, many organizations get rid of unattainable, not recommended obligations.

Matona1, do you think it is particularly "respectful of the human beings" native to Sweden to burden them, their tax dollars, the fabric of their society, etc. with tens of thousands of unskilled refugees who don't even know the language? Please answer honestly.

It's not Sweden's remotely responsibility to take care of all of the world's downtrodden.

It is really a big problem that police cannot send those who have no ID back. Countries should somehow discuss this problem and solve it. For many of these people should be practically possible to find a trace in their home countries to prove their nationality.

These people come to Sweden with the promise of good life. After they are bullied by racist native Swedish people, they becaome unhappy. Maybe if they get what we were promised they would not be upset and do things to deserve deporation!!

"These people come to Sweden with the promise of good life"

Promised by who? The Swedish population? The Swedish government?

Perhaps if new arrivals were less intent on recreating their home countries (dysfunction included) in Sweden they might be more welcome.

But arriving in someone else's house with a lot of demands is not a path of success.

"We don't know where they've gone," he said.

Sweden is a country that's been flooded for quite some time now. Naive and soft-hearted politicians have made it so native Swedes now have to keep themselves from drowning. Sad but true.

The whole problem is summed up concisely by @seekingthetruth's claims of entitlement and justifications of crimes by immigrants.

Shockingly he is also a defender of gang rapists and terrorists elsewhere on here.

He is by no means unique. Meet the end result of multiculturalism.

End it in 2014.

Comment: #17 godnatt, well said, @seekingthethruth, are you having a laugh, where is this promise of a good life, i love to receive one of those broacher's i would be on a plane there now. The real truth is that there a leaflets like a treasure map handed around to illegals in France, Italy, and other European countries with routes and gateways with information about welfare money and what is easy to claim and how much and what is the best place to head for, as soon as they are there they ditch anything that links them to there country of origin so how can you deport someone with no origin. I do understand that some people are escaping torture and genocide and have seen the most horrible atrocities but Sweden and Europe cannot sustain this amount people, If Sweden wants to except these people they must count on the fact this person will never have a job and never contribute to the tax system and also be prepared to pay there pension and to pay for there offspring, what ever the father says or his views about society the child shall adopt maybe good or bad. A certain man with a certain religion in England can have 3 wife's so he has 2 children with the first then 2 with the next then 2 with third then he gets a house on his own and shags around but these other 3 are claiming from the state housing benefit and child benefit work it out , England cant cope now with it so they say a working man must work till he is 70 years old tell that to the Swede's and also tell them they cant take 4 weeks off in the summer the company hasn't the economy any more.
