Sweden refuses to release CIA flight info

I get why it's kept confidential but I'd prefer greater transparency when it comes to this. Any abuses (like with the two Egyptians) is bound to get out in the open in any case but it's important for human rights organizations to have access to info regarding the organizational structures of these deportations to find any potential systematic flaws. That's something countries themselves cannot do - you need to look at the bigger picture involving CIA transports of terrorist suspects all over the world.

Wait for Wikileaks to release them .... I bet Assange knows something, any wonder he wants to avoid Rendition , sorry extradition to Sweden .....sorry US....

Is Assange a terrorist suspect now? And if he did "know something" he would have released it already to help (or rather, sideline) his case. I agree with you that Wikileaks (or other such services) can help build a more transparent society though, yes.

A dark day in Sweden indeed. Muslims around the world are the most troubled in the West for the past 10 years. All my Muslim acquaintances often speak greatly about Scandinavian countries and consider it the most civilized and humane. I tend to agree. However, with the story of Egyptian men handed over to CIA few years ago without a trial, and now this, does highlight the dark secrets of contemporary Swedish politics and judiciary.

How can anybody blame Assange for choosing to stay in UK knowing it is the closest American ally? At least the judiciary is still effective there.

Sweden's image in the world has suffered a huge battering in rcent times. This is always an inevitable consequence of brown nosing America and the CIA.

God knows what the average citizen of Sweden makes of being lumped in with America, Britain and Israel.

If any government is honest enough then, there is nothing to be kept secret for the sake of earning respect of the Global public that will eventually learn every secret thing because of digital advancement.

Strictest Security even cannot guarantee life and death matters as we have only 50% control at our human end. All these security machines surely can provide fortunes for a group of businessmen that have got small minded public representatives in western governments at their grips. Without these machines an insignificant number of innocent passengers would have been killed by mentally sick, suicidal minded ordinary looking guys of Palestinian-type origins (e.g. all the 9/11 hijackers were from that said particular area and Pakistanis just handled the mysterious funds and the stupid -Terrorist minded: Bin Laden, had he been caught alive and put in a fair trial, could divulge to the World how an elusive party funded by Insurance and Oil -business money created a trapped situation of 9/11 demolition things only to save and financially benefit the master planners: a group of competitor-less monopoly businessmen of natural resources and modern Insurance industry). "Do or Die" situations or assassinations are therefore, not good at all and only guys get benefited by these kinds of heinous and immoral acts (unavoidably supported by politically dishonest and bad part of most modern democracy) are unscrupulous minds with characteristics of something like Hedgehogs and snakes.

Please note that according to recent counting 4,500 innocent guys of USA and One million Iraqi died despite having trillions of US$ dollar costing security equipments as protectors.

Now, Iraq will become much safer without security providing -billions of US $ dollars costing machines and stuffs, for which US public shall have to pay many yeras to come. Good knowledge and wisdom are more strongly effective than terror causing weapons to positively change the bacterial type emotional states of human minds....

All we and the global public need is awareness of establishment of a new UN Think Tank consisting of satiably less greedy, wise and happy positive minded guys -capable of positively changing the minds or the persons in governments of the world starting with the West first; optimistically, under prudent leadership of someone so balanced like Mr. Barack Obama. I am sure, Mr. Obama and his family do not have earnings from business of neither bombs nor security equipments but public beneficial good books and he (Truly honour deserving, Honorable Mr. Barack Obama) will be happy with One million dollar annual personal income, sacrificing rest of the millions of dollar honest earning for the benefit of the public of USA, if every wealthy Congressman /businessman follow the same Tax rules to be implemented in the USA first and to be applied to the rest of the world gradually.

I see, and people (or trolls) still wonder why anyone would be suspicious of the questionable rush to extradite Wikileaks' Assange, especially to Gothenborg, (Goteborg) where resides Jeppesen Systems AB, a subsidiary of Boeing of America, whose Jeppesen Dataplan is also wellknown as "extreme rendition" airlines.

On Dec. 16, Wikileaks' Julian Assange was granted his right to appeal by the UK court --- to a highly questionable, law-ignoring extradition by Sweden.

It seems Sweden does have some kind of "understanding" with the US over the illegal rendition of people into US custody. Wierd!

@philster61: No he isn't. The Americans haven't sent out a warrant for his arrest - he's not even on any of their most-wanted lists. Some people like to imagine Assange is a wanted man in the US but you have no actual evidence of this. Believe in this deportation conspiracy if you wish - it won't happen. :)

@RobinHood: If someone is wanted for terrorism anywhere in the world and the Swedish security police agrees with this concern then they are of course arrested if they are spotted at an airport in Sweden and handed over. Don't see what's so surprising about this. Otherwise Osama bin laden could have flown to Sweden and then gone to a police station and requested asylum and nobody would have been able to touch him. It's not as black or white as you make it out to be...

You'll find that human rights organizations don't have anything against such renditions in themselves but rather any systematic abuse which occurs as a result of them. The problem with the Egyptians wasn't that they were handed over to the CIA but that they were tortured as a result of this.

Please try and read the articles here at The Local before you comment on them. If you don't, it makes you look singularly dim witted.

The whole point of the above article is that people have not been arrested at airports for terrorism. They have been kidnapped from the street by Swedish SÄPÅ agents, roughed up, trussed up like Christmas turkeys, handed over to a foreign power, tortured and then falsely imprisoned for years. Incredibly, you do not seem to know that these are extremely serious crimes; in black and white, or any other colour you choose to name.

I suggest less time trolling, and more time reading and learning.

That is the idea of rendition. Its a covert op. Outside the law. He doesn't need to be charged, he needs to be held. Sweden would be instrumental in this. He is not on any list because he hasn't committed an act of terrorism. He hasn't been charged with causing any deaths. And if you recall the statements made by Hillary Clinton calling for his arrest?Why is he fighting extradition? Why has he not even been charged?

Espionage and terrorism are two completely different things.

I am not presenting a conspiracy theory here, If I am so far off the track, then why is Sweden refusing to release flight info? Why were they accused of officially deporting these Egyptians? Why were flights unregistered coming in and out of Sweden?

Negative, sonny, but the Obama administration did indeed convene a secret grand jury on Julian Assange and Wikileaks, the indictment is still classified --- but take a wild guess what it turns out to be, regarding Julian Assange???
