Swedish woman held for sex with 16-year-old

Published: 30 Dec 11 10:26 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/38236/20111230/

A 32-year-old woman from Dalarna in central Sweden has been remanded on suspicions of child rape for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

The woman was called in for questioning by police on December 22nd and placed under arrest later that day, the local Dala-Demokraten newspaper reported.

Police were alerted to the woman's relationship with the teen after she spoke to a social worker about the affair and the social worker in turn filed a report with police.

The couple allegedly began their relationship in August and continued to see each other up until the time of the woman's arrest.

According to court documents, the 32-year-old had sex with the boy at least five times.

The victim of the alleged crime has confirmed his relationship with the 32-year-old.

“The boy confirms that the information she has given is correct, but he does not believe he is an actual victim of rape,” prosecutor Fredrik Skoglund told the newspaper.

Normally having sex with a minor is a crime in Sweden only if the younger party is younger than 15-years-old.

However, the age of consent can be raised in cases where the younger person is seen to have a relationship of dependence with the older person, such as a teacher and a student.

In such cases, sex between and adult and someone as old as 18-year-old can be classified as child rape, Skoglund explained.

However, Skoglund refused to elaborate on the exact nature of the relationship between the woman and the 16-year-old.

According to the newspaper, the 32-year-old woman has no criminal record who is engaged in volunteer and charity work which puts her in close contact with children.

social worker must be a guy.. getting jealous why he himself didnt get the chance :)
12:03 December 30, 2011 by eddie123
hmm... most unfortunate, isn't it? having a sexual relationship with a boy half her age isn't the best of ideas. come to think of the number of men she would have turned down on account of being busy or too engrossed in her work. in the end, she commits a crime bacause her level of sophistication hinders her from having social and sexual relations with men. just downright pathetic. and what the hell was the 16 year old thinking about. guess he so much enjoyed the encounter and was willing to let the affiar continue that he never for once considered reporting the woman to his parents or the police. i have always maintained that people should endeavor to have sexual relations with folks in the same age bracket. there is no use dating someone old enough to be your child. crazy stuff.
12:47 December 30, 2011 by Dazzler
Not many 16 yr old boys would turn down the kitty if it was placed right in front of their noses. Lets just be honest here. :)
13:28 December 30, 2011 by Svensksmith
Where was she when I was 16?
13:37 December 30, 2011 by jackjones
The boy is above the age of consent, has hormones raging through his body, and has consensual sex with someone he trusts. There isn't a 16-year-old on the planet who wouldn't do the same in his shoes, and I suspect there isn't an adult male who isn't jealous and would have done the same at his age.

So who is the law protecting? He'll have a smile on his face for many months... except for having legal intrusion into his private life. The law is an ass, and is protecting no-one.
13:37 December 30, 2011 by Dr. Dillner
This is where the law gets stupid. Where is the victim here? They BOTH enjoyed the experience.

Ridiculous.
15:44 December 30, 2011 by StockholmSam
@eddie123, you obviously do not know how boys (or human beings, for that matter) work. Your ideas are sadly out-of-touch with reality.

Until we know what their relationship was, we won't understand why she is being held, but we can assume that because she is being held that the two of them must have one of those questionable associations such as teacher-student. But if not, this is a ridiculous non-issue. Most 16-year-old boys I know would never say no to the opportunity.
16:47 December 30, 2011 by tadchem
As far as I can tell from the story, the only one who had a problem with this relationship was the social worker.
17:09 December 30, 2011 by Puffin
So you lot think it's OK that Teachers, healthcare staff, foster parents and charity workers have sex with the teenagers in their care?

Unbelievable!

Old enough to be prosecuted, fined, and even imprisoned for uploading movies. But not old enough for a quick jab.

As for the woman, extremely unwise to fall for a 16 year old, but it shouldn't be illegal. True love occassionaly crosses the divide. A middle aged Oliver Reed horrified his friends by falling for a 16 year old girl. He married her, and lived with her in happiness for years until his death. As the old folks say, you never can tell!
19:14 December 30, 2011 by jostein
Any man who taught in highschool (gymnasiet) had a host of sexual offers from his female students. I dont think its ok to go along with that. As an adult in that position you have to say no. Simple as that.

Now, as a man i feel differently about female teacher, male student, it doesnt feel as wrong, somehow. However, can the law really discriminate like that?
19:41 December 30, 2011 by eddie123
@Stockholm_Sam... it is you who is out of touch by concluding that it is right for an adult to engage in sexual relations with a minor - in this case, a troubled minor. go read up the main article from dala demokraten and you will get a better perspective on why the said 32 year old is in police custody. there are lots of adults open for sexual relationships and the 32 year old should turn to those and not an immature 16 year old who is entrusted in her care.

When I was sixteen (now 82) I long to be raped by a 32 year old. Still do !!!!
23:50 December 30, 2011 by J Jack
I think it's great, but unfortunate that they have to live in a land of killjoys. I am mid 40's and have no problem doing someone much older or younger if that would be my fate. Being a father also means I am in contact with youngsters that I protect by not relating to slappers and undesirables that could be a threat to them or others around them. Long live romance!
01:52 December 31, 2011 by JohnF_86
She got absolutely what she deserves. I hope this sets a precedent for teachers to hold more restraint and not violate the relationship between teacher and student. How can some people justify 'rape' and exploitation by the pleasure derived from both. The age of consent should increase to 18 and sentencing should be made more stringent (like the U.S. where someone charge of rape cannot live 5 miles near a public school.)
10:11 December 31, 2011 by Kevin Harris
I think some posters here have become confused. The woman was not a professional teacher, or a social worker. She is an unpaid charity worker. That is quite important. She is not subject to the strict professional and ethical obligations of those professions. She did not come into contact with the young man through a profession. Her defence will make much of this important point.

Moving on.....In other news, a swedish woman has just discovered that she is married to a carrot...lol
11:10 December 31, 2011 by Puffin
@ kevin harris

So you would be fine if a youth club leader or sports coach was grooming and having sex with your 15 year old daughter??

I think that the law is entirely reasonable demanding a higher age of consent of 18 where the adult is in a position of responsibility over a child

We have no idea either how long the relationship has been going on - the Courts have found the case to be serious as the woman has been remanded in custody!
11:30 December 31, 2011 by Token-not-found
Anyone not wanting this woman to receive the same sentence as a 35 year old male having sex with a 16 year old girl is an intolerant, man hating , sexist bigot.

What if a mature social worker man had sex with a teen? I hope she gets the same treatment, that would be equality.

If only the Swedish police would put as much time and effort into catching and prosecuting real criminals.
13:47 December 31, 2011 by Reason abd Realism
@eddie123. Had a quick look and did not find the article. Can you elaborate please? We're all adults here.

Until you do, and without knowledge of the particulars of the case, most men would assume that this could be the sexual highlight of a lifetime for the 16 year old.

If the 16 year old has some sort of mental or physical illness or handicap, then the law should be modified to address that particular case. Otherwise the so called victim appears to many people to be more of a lottery winner than a victim.
14:36 December 31, 2011 by Kevin Harris
@puffin

Please read the story more carefully. It involves a 16 year old boy and a charity worker. What an earth does my non- existant 15 year old daughter, a youth club leader and grooming have to do with any of this? More focus please, and much less of your rather disturbing fixation on the sexual activities of members of my family.
15:54 December 31, 2011 by Reason abd Realism
@eddie123

I found the article, and it says that the 16 year old does not consider himself to be a victim of rape.

In case others are interested, here is the link:

"surgital rape" The woman should be tried. As a matter of fact .... the boy will be traumatized effectively in the future, we are talking about his life, men.
03:55 January 1, 2012 by för30årseden
In the States, it's far more common that the men abuse young girls. The girls never come forward because they are embarrassed and hurt.

But when it does happen that women do it to boys, the story comes out because the boys are BRAGGING. (Which sort of implies that they boys are not embarrassed or hurt.)

But the women have to be prosecuted so that no one admits the obvious. Sometimes boys and girls are not the same! We can't let facts stand in the way of indiscriminate ideology.
11:00 January 1, 2012 by HostileKnowledge
Well, a lot of cogent thoughts are posted here. When I was a very young teenager, many ages ago, I was extremely fortunate enough to have receved the sexual attention of some older women.

But I have never considered the nonsensical idea that I was abused, or raped.

To the contrary, I felt then and still today feel greatly gratified and wiser for these experiences.
12:02 January 1, 2012 by johan rebel
Exactly! This kid probably stil can't believe his luck. At that age, the best thing that can happen is to be introduced to the joys of sex by an older woman. It will stand him in good stead for the rest of his (sex)life. The alterntive, messing around with a horny buth inept and clueless girl of his own age comes down to learning the hard way, through trial and error.

If I were 16 years old and an attractive 32-year-old woman wanted to have sex with me, I'd accept without hesitation.

Only 5 times ?

A 16 year old ?

Something jives not !

That the law is stupid....a foregone conclusion.

And how about that blond in the blue sweater working the laptop ?

What scares me is this : The Swedish Social Democrats being so unpopular..

Have they gone too far ?
22:50 January 1, 2012 by Chris E.
Well the last time i checked, age was just a number hanging on my closet...lol sexual attraction breaks the divide and compromises so many things at stake but the vital factor that age renders is that it keeps issues into perspective between teens and adults.Let's face reality here, how many of u would have downright turn such advances had say u were in the young guy's shoe.....wake up folks!!
08:30 January 2, 2012 by JohnF_86
ok, this is a 16 year old teen. His idea of responsibility is to attend class and play Xbox. Most 16 year old teens don't even cook their own meal or wash their own clothes.

Sweden should protect the young more with tougher punishments.
14:44 January 2, 2012 by tetrahedron
I find the idea utterly incomprehensible that a 16-year-old boy could be traumatised by sex with an older woman.

Can anyone really produce any hard evidence that this has ever been the case?

As a teenager, I was very lonely and depressed and I'm sure that if some older woman had seduced me that would have cheered me up a bit.
22:01 January 3, 2012 by Loonyman
Bloody Stupidness....

When I was 16 all I wanted was to dip my wick.... I would have been over the moon.... Sometimes this country makes me scratch my head!!

( And all the bleeding hearts should remember, at 16 its fine to join the Army back in the UK, but there is something wrong with a spot of nooky with a Mrs Robinson ... Come on!!)
