Anna Lindh killer in prison stabbing

Mijailo Mijailovic, the man who murdered Sweden's foreign minister Anna Lindh in 2003, stabbed one of the inmates at Kumla prison on Thursday where he is serving his life sentence.

An eye witness saw Mijailovic stab the 21-year-old inmate in the stomach with a screwdriver, totally unprovoked, he told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

The stabbing reportedly occurred at the therapy ward for the mentally ill, when the inmates were waiting to get frisked.

Both guards and inmates intervened and interrupted the attack, the newspaper reported.

Mijailovic has now been placed in an isolation cell and police have initiated a preliminary investigation for aggravated assault.

On Thursday they questioned witnesses, but Mijailovic himself won't be questioned until after the holidays.

The 21-year-old victim of his attack was taken to hospital with injuries to his liver, but his condition is reported to be stable.

Mijailovic is now 33-years-old, and was sentenced to life in prison in December of 2004 for stabbing Lindh while she was shopping at the NK department store in central Stockholm.

While Lindh survived the initial attack, doctors were unable to stop the bleeding caused by the injuries and she died early the next morning.

Since the killing, Mijailovic has committed several violence crimes while in prison.

In 2005, he assaulted a fellow inmate at the forensic psychiatry clinic in Sundsvall in northern Sweden.

The warden at Kumla does not want to reveal any names of the people involved in the latest attack, but he confirms that Mijailovic has been violent in the past.

"It is fairly well known that Mijailovic is the kind of person who's been involved in similar incidents," Kenneth Gustafsson told Aftonbladet.

Mijailovic has previously stated that he acted mentally ill during his trials to escape a prison sentence.

"I was rambling to get forensic psychiatric care," he said this autumn.

"Everything was made up. I didn't hear voices."

send him to rusian prison,
12:13 December 31, 2011 by Twiceshy
SAPO made (political) court process against him (like in Burma dictatorship, if you attack government they send you to mental hospital and not to prison), lawyer of Mijailo worked for SAPO, now they make propaganda against him too. Journalists should publish what Mijailo has to say and not only other side in conflict. All people know that prison is not some nice place than you have to fight with other people or they will attack you every day. You must get respect there. So, I am sure Mijailo didn't attack them for nothing. In mental hospital people are crazy so and Mijailo can become crazy beside them and attack them. Doctors are working for SAPO, in other case they would say that Mijailo is not crazy and that he should be transferred to typical prison. For me, it doesn't mean anything if some rat (eyewitness) say that Mijailo attacked unprovoked, you can provoke someone today and he can try to kill you after one week or one month, when you don't expect it, so, eyewitness hope to get some privileges when he speaks against other people, rats are dirty people.

So stabbing somebody in a part of the body containing vital organs with a lethal weapon now constitutes aggravated assault???

I guess he would only have served four months if only he had had the sense to stab Lindh with a screwdriver, not a knife.

summer dreams nice talk. and i also welcome you to the local. most comments are centred on race. when there is a crime, the first thing commentators want to is the race of those involved.

And it's precisely because of comments such as jvtx3232 that many people outside of Sweden perceive Sweden as racist ... which sometimes here on the The Local I realize is not far from the truth.

Do you seriously draw conclusions about Sweden from comments on The Local? The people who comment here are almost exclusively unstable conspiratorial nutcases, many of whom never seem to have ever set foot here.

What is it about this love affair Scandinavians have with declaring a murderer insane. Brevik, Mijalovic, It seems that that only solution they can come up with is to declare them insane, when they are obviously not.....Maybe someday the Scandinavian legal system will grow a pair..........

Wow!How could he have do that!
