Police consult psychic to find missing 82-year-old

When the search for a missing 82-year-old in central Sweden proved unsuccessful, police resorted to desperate measures and consulted a clairvoyant.

The missing man had last been seen in Torsby, western Sweden, at the end of last year. Since his disappearance, police have been conducting an extensive investigation, including search parties and helicopters.
The psychic, who had been in contact with the missing man's family, said she had a vision of the man "in an old building near a blue cottage with white windows".
According to DN, the woman had prophesized that the missing man would be found ‘to the north of Sysslebäck,’ a nearby village, and the police began searching the area for blue cottages with white windows.
While the police have not paid the clairvoyant for the information, they did assign a whole day's work to her visions. The missing man has still not been found.
Hertzberg told the paper that it isn't that uncommon for police to use psychics in their investigations.
“Psychics are often involved when we look for missing people. Many clairvoyants actively approach the missing person’s relatives,” said Hertzberg to DN.
While psychics’ abilities to find missing people are still unproven, Hertzberg remained optimistic about the chance.
“Stranger things have happened. One day a psychic may be right.”

How many times do they have to be wrong before everyone finally decides to ignore them completely? I am dismayed that any portion of my taxes has gone to investigating the made-up claims of a woman who is either delusional or dishonest.

Uh...yes, Mr. Hertzberg. It is uncommon for real policemen involved in real investigations to consult with "psychics."
Looks like somebody in the Swedish police has been reading Peter James' Superintendent Roy Grace detective novels and getting ideas - at least Peter James' fictional character consulted a psychic, in his own time and expense.
Nowhere in this article did it say the police initiated the contact. It was the person claiming to be a psychic that had been in contact with the family.
Preying on scared desperate people is dispicable! They're the scum of the earth.
If you think you know any psychic with real ability, tell them about the James Randi Educational Foundation's "One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge". That's right -- demonstrate your psychic ability objectively, and they will give you 1 million US dollars.
Unfortunately, nobody has ever been able to demostrate psychic ability.
