Bomb attack rocks Malmö police station

Published: 1 Feb 12 07:37 CET | Print version

A police station in central Malmö was hit by a powerful explosion early Wednesday morning, leaving a hole in the building.

“Several people reacted to the powerful explosion and we received a number of calls,” Skåne police duty officer Marie Keimar told the TT news agency.

Two men dressed in dark clothing were seen placing what is believed to be a bomb outside the building before fleeing the scene.

The blast, which took place around 2.30am, left a hole in the police station's brick wall and caused extensive damage to the offices inside.

Police say there are a number of witnesses to the incident, but Keimar was unable to elaborate on what witnesses may have said about what they saw.

However, eye witness Tomas Holmqvist told Svergies Television (SVT) that he had seen two men dressed in black place the charge outside the station.

The two men then fled the scene on a black scooter.

The police station singled out in the attack is located on Eriksfältsgatan in central Malmö.

According to police, there were people present in the station shortly before the explosion occurred.

“It was lucky there wasn't anyone in there, but it was still a serious attack against us,” said Keimar.

“It's unclear how seriously the building was damaged or if there is any risk that it might collapse.”

By 4am, investigators had begun examining the scene in order to assess the damage.

The police station is located in Malmö's Fosie neighbourhood, the same area where a man was fatally shot just hours before.

Shortly before 7pm, police found a 48-year-old father of four shot in a car. He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.

It didn't even break the glass.... and they are talking of a building collapse? Hah sometimes the innocence in Sweden is just too cute.
08:41 February 1, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
So now the criminals are trying to kill police officers, not only each other.

Either that or the bomb was intended to be a diversion so that they could assissinate the 48 year old while the police were assessing the bomb damage, or to tie up the police after the murder while the scooter guys and assassins (perhaps one and the same) peacefully made their getaway.

As I posted before, it seems that the police are overwhelmed. Accordingly, until they get reinforcements, a plain clothes presence by Swedish infantry with concealed weapons (who are otherwise sitting idle in the Arctic circle, waiting for an attack from Norway or Finland that will never materialize) would add a much needed peace keeping presence on the war torn streets of Mälmo, to make all residents safer there.

Excuse me, a bomb that couldn't even crack the glass. Are you sure we are not talking about firecrackers here.

Could have been a pipe bomb, that directs nearly all of its force out the ends of the pipe, and little or no force in a direction perpandicular to the length of the steel pipe. This could have lethal effect if you are in the direction of the blast. There is a hole in the wall and bricks are missing, along with extensive damage inside.

I... I have no words. This is crazy! What the hell is happening in Malmo! It's worse than Baghdad any moment now!

I thought Sweden was supposed to be safe and nice, that's why I came here!

Sweden is very good at pointing fingers and trying to remedy the worlds problems like hunger in parts of Africa or recycling not done properly in other EU countries, but look what they have in their own yard. My, my....

I'm from Romania and even if people point fingers and go: "Meh, Eastern Europe" - let me tell you, people don't shoot themselves over there, ever. I think there was 1 shooting in 2 years that I've heard of, in the whole country, with a population of 22 million, and even that was a police officer shooting someone.

Bombs? No way. I don't think there was ever a bomb exploding in Romania, not even in WW2.

What's happening in Sweden is really scary for me, I've never heard of such a thing as people bombing police stations. I thought that I could make a home here after finishing college, but I think I'd rather go home now...

@reason

That thought also came to my mind to call in troops but I think that would not happen in Sweden. The last time it happened was in ådalen so many, many years ago and it still being looked upon as being a black mark in Swedish history. I cannot imagine what could be done in the open city of Malmö. The police just are not being allowed to do anything barely being able to defend themselves. Every time they let off a shot there is such a big cry from the very liberal swedish public so I guess it all just has to somehow work itself out. Meanwhile I shall stay away from Malmö.
10:57 February 1, 2012 by StockholmSam
The public's patience will run out fairly quickly if the Malmö crime rate continues on its current course. The backlash against current immigration policies might result in Sweden closing its doors to further immigration as right-wing politicians gain more and more support. Eventually, calls for greater security at the cost of personal liberties will get louder. I am not convinced that is a bad thing.

Mistakes are supposed to be something that an edified society learns from. If things went badly many decades ago, then the things that went badly need to be addressed in advance this time, not the basic idea of providing extra security for the law abiding public, which is itself a sound idea under the circumstances.

Some will refer to the catastrophe of the military presence today in Egypt or Syria or as one poster mentionned, Northern Ireland. In my view these are not valid examples, because the dynamic is entirely different, because in Northern Ireland half of the locals viewed the army as an occupying military force, and in Egypt and Syria the army is acting to protect their own interest in hanging on to political power, which is not an element that would be relevant here in Sweden, so the Swedish military would simply have no motivation to shoot into crowds of demonstrators. Military individuals, particularly Swedish ones, are not inherently evil.

Do agree that most Swedes would prefer to maintain the illusion that Malmö is an Astrid Lindgren village, telling the police not to fire their weapons, and telling the army to stay away, even as the body count piles up.

a simple device placed at a police station......

if one marries this with theology or some political stance then the swedish authorities should read the writing on the wall, call it a race or class war or socio-economic stroke cultural-religous war.....

you may laugh now at these words but if they prove true you will cry later....

everything is changing...the youths today are not like us from yester-year....

many of you who write here have no contact or connection with this generation.

just like the authorities who are trying to stave off this epidemic with no real understanding of the causes.....

Last year Social Democrat Mayor Reepalu put himself up for the international mayor of the year award. He actually made the shortlist, until the Simon Wiesental center pointed out the mayor's medieval attitude to Jews in his city, and he was quietly dropped from the competition.

At the next local election would the surviving members of the Malmö electorate, if their are any still alive by then, please kick the bum out.

Poor Sweden, it used to be a peaceful, moral country, with standards, sadly no more.

Wait a sec. I thought "multiculturalism" was supposed to bring "enrichment" and "vibrance" to the communities all throughout Sweden? And that the 2nd and 3rd generations would fit so nicely into Swedish society? At least that's what we were told when the left started this social experiment! Geez, I wonder how people could have voted for such a social policy? Oh wait! The people NEVER had a say in whether they wanted "multiculturalism" or not! It was shoved down their throats by S and the pro-asylum seeker/refugee crowd. And now we see the results.

FYI, the only places where bombings of police stations occur is the 3rd World and.......yes, Sweden.
19:33 February 1, 2012 by seekingthetruth
All these stories are exgaggerated. Try visiting Baghdad, you will find your precious Sweden to still be very safe!

@Rod Munch

Some cultures are better than others at exploiting naïveté. Unless somebody steps up and puts Sweden on suicide watch, there might not be a 'Swedish society' in two or three generations.
23:01 February 1, 2012 by Hahastupidsweden
If the police were not so crooked, if they did not violate so many people's rights, and cause so much harm in society this would not be happening, but on a global scale people are sick of police committing crime against humanity.

Diversity has jumped the shark. Everyone is now saying, anti-racist is a code word for anti-White.

No one is Demanding the Middle East be flooded with Non-Arabs and is telling everyone to "mix in".

No one is Demanding Africa or Asia be flooded with foreigners and is telling everyone to "mix in".

"Anti-racists" Demand massive immigration and forced integration for all White countries and only White countries.

This "assimilation" or blending is nothing more than an attempt to wipe out my race, the White race. It is genocide.

Anti-racist is a code word for anti-White.

Multiculturalism is the equivalent of mixing 10% shyt with 90% ice cream. It improves the shyt while completely ruining the ice cream. Making shyt appear palatable is what multiculturalism is all about. Sweden's elites are truly a deranged lot - probably the most insanely ethnomasochistic in the whole of Europe - yet as the saying goes, "in a democracy, people get the leaders they deserve". Nine out of ten Swedes are acting like sheep, by awarding the policies of multiculti in election after election, and thus deserve every bit of the cultural enrichment the ROP is dishing out to them! Only pity is it will take at least a decade before the disorder reaches the affluent neighborhoods of Bengt Westerberg, Sahlin, Reinfeildt et al arrogant guilty swine, whose policies are the root cause to the predicament, that this once great country is in!
