Princess Victoria to give birth in 'early March'

A post on Facebook as well as a 42 cannon salute are among the ways the next heir to the Swedish throne will be welcomed into the world, with Crown Princess Victoria due to give birth in early March, the Royal Court announced on Thursday along with a detailed list of events planned to mark the occasion.

“This birth will bring the royal family, and the country, together,” Roger Lundgren, previous editor of Queen magazine and expert on the Swedish royal family, told The Local.

It is not publicly known where the baby will be delivered, although it has been speculated that the birth will be at Karolinska hospital in Stockholm, where Victoria herself was born.

The day after the birth, the Marshall of the Realm (Riksmarskalken) will announce the heir’s birth to the world to a cannon salute of 42 shots, fired from Skeppesholmen in Stockholm.

The news will then be announced on the Royal Court website, kungahuset.se, as well as the royal family’s official Facebook page, which has been a recent development in the family’s push to embrace social media.

Launched in November, the page has almost 11,000 subscribers so far.

“I’ve been nagging the family for four years to get this Facebook page, and I am glad it’s going to be put to good use. The family has embraced the concept, and the public reaction has been fantastic,” said Lundgren.

“Now I’m working on convincing them to use Twitter… but that may take some time”.

The King will deliver news of the baby’s name and titles the next day at a Cabinet Council, or if the birth is on a Saturday, on the following Monday.

The birth will also be followed by the “Te Deum”, a type of thanksgiving, held the day after the birth in the Royal Chapel.

This is an ancient religious ceremony, and occurs with many major important events in the royal family, such as baptisms, birthdays, and.

The last Te Deum was held at the King's 60th birthday in 2006.

The Swedish royal family has come under fire in recent months, with one controversy seemingly following another, however Lundgren predicts that the birth will revert the Swedish perception of the wedding to time of the royal wedding in 2010.

“The wedding was a spectacular event for Sweden, it captured the entire country. People who were previously indifferent to the monarchy thought ‘hey, I had no idea… this really touched me,’” said Lundgren.

“It will hopefully be the same thing with the birth. There hasn’t been a royal birth in Sweden since Princess Madeleine in 1982, so it’s been a long time coming, but it was definitely worth the wait.”

Sorry to ask.. I have this doubt for quite long time. Could not resist any more from asking. Could any one please tell me why Princess Victoria don't have blonde hair and blue eyes? She doesn't look swedish..

@ Svensksmith

What a mindless person, you, are... As long as the baby does not have the same kind of mediavel mind as you have, it will be fine for the femily and for many swede...

@ Knonwhite

unfortunately the royal family are ring ins (as per normal royal upper-class blood rules) so that explains why they don't appear to be natives !

I believe the current monarch family came from France in the early 1800's?

With Prince Daniel being Swedish (I assume that's true), this baby, at 50% Swedish, might be the most Swedish blood on the throne in ages.

Well, I hope it's a healthy and happy baby and all.

I just think that we should be over and done with the royals already. They were not elected in any way and we as taxpayers are paying for their lavish lifestyles while there are plenty of people in Sweden alone that could have much better lives, including children and the elderly.

Sorry, but it really breaks my heart to think that Victoria's baby is getting the best of the best of everything while there are other children living in struggling families. Nobody in the royal family has worked like the average person to get where they are. They live the way they do because of someone a hundred generations back. Why is that fair?

Vic and Dan are leaving it pretty late to have kids given their status and the other two royal kids are not getthing married anytime soon are they. Hopefully this baby will wise up by the time it's their turn to "take the throne" and see this royalty thing as totally unnecessary.

Otherwise, Vic and Dan have my best wishes for a smooth delivery and a healthy baby, as with any other expectant parents.

Aaahh! A royal baby... Yawn....

Knonwhite. Like many Monarchies, their ancestry is not native. The Bernadottes are descended from Jean Baptiste Bernadotte. One of Napolean Bonapartes Generals. And Queen Sylvia being Brasilan/German certainly adds to the mix...

@Svensksmith, As long as the baby does not drop by at Migrationsverket!!! Still worse, imagine the baby looking like the Prince aka Boxer Robert, which has a higher probability!!

To everyone who has posted a comment give all this b------t up about not caring about your royal family. This event will cause a great deal of interest about SWEDEN throughout the world and will bring many visitors to your country. There are many people here in the UK who don't bother about the royals but it brings revenue to the country.Be happy for the new PRINCESS.
