Police close entrance to Malmö hospital

Published: 3 Feb 12 14:44 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/38906/20120203/

Police in Malmö have taken the unusual decision to cordon off the entrance to the accident and emergency department at the Skåne University Hospital following the latest in a rising number of fatal shooting incidents.

”There is a continual threat,” said Hans Olsson, assistant security manager at the hospital to daily Dagens Nyheter (DN), adding that they have taken this extreme measure in response to the rising number of shootings recently.

In a bid to tighten up security arrangements at the hospital, the main way in will be closed off for only the second time in living memory, as early as next week, according to reports in Dagens Nyheter.

Monday saw the latest in a spate of murders that has caused panic throughout the city. Police immediately cordoned off the crime scene where the incident took place, but also decided to stop anyone getting into the A&E building.

As a crowd of some 60 people began to gather outside the entrance, the police were forced to push them back in a bid to secure those inside.

"The staff felt threatened by the large quantity of people trying to push in," said Mats Hansson of the Malmö health care union to DN.

The authorities claimed that it was necessary to close the entrance to reduce the risk of criminal gangs who are involved in the ongoing escalation of violence in Skåne getting inside and causing even more trouble.

Security at the hospital in both the previous and current location has gradually been ramped up since the mid 90s, following the fatal shooting of a patient by a policeman.

After that incident, staff were equipped with voluntary panic alarms, although new measures have since come into force making it compulsory to carry them at all times.

In addition, staff have received training in self-defence and how to deal with threatening situations, while extra security guards and surveillance cameras have also been installed at the hospital.

Very sad. But I'm glad I read the article -- I thought maybe they were closing the A&E to try to deter people from committing crimes, as in "If you shoot someone, we won't let them in the hospital and they might die. Then you'll feel really bad." THAT will stop the violence.

To the useless Swedish police force. If you cannot do your job then perhaps you should seek help from other well trained force to help you. Try the French, the Balkans, Brasil, etc..... Then you can just do what you do best which is stopping motorist for driving just a bit faster than the already low speed limit...

granted that not all immigrants are bad people BUT malmö does have the highest population and coincidentally the highest crime rates (brutal crimes at that).

surely the politicians must be getting the hint by now?

At Bellevue Hospital in New York in 1981 a young woman was under my care after she had been beaten up by her boy friend. A friend of the victim came to the hospital to warm her that the boyfriend was on his way to the hospital to finish her off. She gave the victim a large ice pick for self-defense. When the boy friend arrived, she greeted him with an ice pick to the chest. Up until that moment I had always viewed a hospital as a "safe house" immune from the violence in the general society. It just ain't so.

Most inner city trauma hospitals in the USA have a large continuous police presence on site.

Sweden, because of its social heritage and relative isolation from the uglier side of humanity, has always been a peaceful and serene country. No longer. Malmo, welcome the real world!
19:25 February 3, 2012 by james7
It is Sweden's heritage of being a peaceful, friendly, welcoming country that has caused the decline of Sweden and the downfall of Malmo. The Swedes opened their arms and their country to refugees from the third world, who had no intention of assimilating into Swedish culture; they had only criminal intentions. Now we see the result. Malmo police and citizens need to be armed, just like the people of the US. It is very sad. A peaceful nation who has given help to so many others is destroyed by its immigrants.

Malmo is jut the beginning. The Immigrants are Malignant Breeders (8 kids is not uncommon) who not only will help kill mother nature, but will turn every Swedish city into another Malmo.

Cording it off is a good start. Cord off the whole city and put every Muslim on a boat home.

The longer you wait, the harder it will be. Civil war will erupt, and the Swedes will loose if they wait much longer.

It's the wild west in Malmo. What a way to live!!! The world looks on aghast, and wonders why are Swedish politicians so determined to swap its peaceful high quality of life and work ethic, for one riddled by crime, low life, benefit dependency and anarchy.

One post mentions New York in 1981. It was bad. But then came Rudi Giuliani - who became major in 1994. Not everything about him was good, but he did fight crime in a new way and made NYC from one of the most dangerous to one of the safest cities in his country, How?

He did not just try to solve murders but went after the small things that breed crime such as litter/garbage, graffiti, etc. Small crimes breed worse crimes and murders.

Trash now lies everywhere in Malmo. Graffiti is everywhere, The youth lives among this disorder; this breeds crime.

Sad story as Sweden is slowly declining and the country that refugees were desperate to get to will soon resemble a facsimilie of Somalia or Iraq.

I don't think that Swedes will ultimately let their country 'go'.

There are enough Swedes and lovers of all things Swedish to fight for what we have.

It is sad that one has to use language like that in the 21st century about a cointry as reknowned as Sweden.

@AngelFire

I have to disagree.

Sweden has had a liberal immigration policy since WWII. The first phase of immigrants were from the poorer countries of Europe, Turkey and Southeast Asia. They were "economic" immigrants in search of a better life. These immigrants had every incentive to learn Swedish and integrate into Swedish society. The Swedish government gave them the opportunity to improve their economic standing, but nothing more. By the way, these Muslim and Christian immigrants were good citizens. They worked. They paid their taxes. They participated in society.

The newest wave of immigrants is entirely different. They are "political" immigrants who are portrayed as "victims" of violent dictators. The Swedish government, in an entirely bizarre twist, acts as if Sweden "owes" these immigrants housing, health care, food and education. The new immigrants are a new "entitled" class. No demands are made of them. There are no expectations of good citizenship. The core of western civilization, THE SOCIAL CONTRACT between government and citizen, has been thrown away by the Swedish government in a fit of extreme liberalism.

For me, the situation is quite simple. The Swedish government has created a problem of monstrous proportions, and only the government can fix it. The government needs to recognize that the new immigrants are guests in Sweden. The Swedish people owe them NOTHING but the opportunity to become good citizens. The Swedish government needs to make it clear that they can stay if they participate constructively in Swedish society. If not, send them home.

This is not at all surprising. Islam's own Quran, Sunnah and Sirah clearly tell us that Muhamad murdered all who spoke out against him. The same sources also tell us that with his followers, to whom he promised booty and women to rape, the so-called 'Prophet' lied, plotted, enslaved, tortured, killed, robbed, ransomed and raped his way to absolute political and religious power.

The recently arrived 'religious' gentlemen are not going to let a few infidel Swedish policemen and a hospital stop them. Muhammad said "I have been made victorious with terror'. The 'religious' gentlemen of Malmo are following the example of their 'Prophet'. The Quran(8:55) tells them the infidlels (Swedes) are the vilest of creatures and 48::29 reminds them that ' the followers of Muhammad are hard against infidels and compassionate to each other'.
02:17 February 4, 2012 by wolfbay
Everyone should read the Koran. All religious texts can sometimes be interpreted in destructive ways but the Koran makes it Very easy. In my view Fundamentalist of all religions are a danger. I just believe that the percentage of Muslim fundamentalists is much higher than other religions. Malmo is probably the future of all of Sweden.

Sweden is a lost country since many years. I used to live there, went to University in Lund and those days Malmo was an "elegant" and safe town.

My God! is this the meeting place for the SvD to spout their hate. Do you know any Muslims? have you ever had a conversation with one? Have you ever read books on Islam written by Muslims rather than by muslim-hating evangelical Christians?

Shakes head...
23:13 February 4, 2012 by irridium
@krrodman

Very well said. I couldn't agree more. I can only hope the populace can begin to understand the difference.
14:02 February 6, 2012 by Dave N
La - if you're going to shake your head, you'd better take it out of the sand first. Some of us have met Muslims and some of us have read the Koran and Hadith. Because of this, some of us know what an intolerant, dangerous and violent belief system Islam is.

BTW - having a conversation with Muslims is like talking to the wall. They will not accept the truth about their religion and their so-called "Perfect Man" even when you show them their own religious writings in black and white. They say..."It's a bad translation," or "it's taken out of context" or "That Hadith is unauthentic, probably a forgery" or "You have to read it in the original Arabic."

Sadly, the only ones who are truthful about Islam are the "extremists" like Bin Laden. The "moderates" are either in denial or are deliberately trying to deceive us.

@Dave N

I suspect that the only Muslim you meet is at the end of your boot when you are out with your EDL scumbags.
