British PM in Sweden to discuss women and work

David Cameron joined Fredrik Reinfeldt and other heads of government from northern Europe who have gathered in Stockholm to discuss common future challenges at the Northern Future Forum.

”Some parts of Europe are dealing with more severe crisis measures, but we have some scope to discuss growth,” said prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt at a press conference before the meeting.

In an opinion piece published in the daily Dagens Nyheter (DN) on Monday the participating leaders said that it is rare for them to get an opportunity to look ahead and focus on the future amidst all the more immediate concerns.

”We rarely get a chance to discuss how we can prepare our societies for other challenges, like what long term policies we should implement today to guarantee jobs, welfare and a sustainable growth for our children and grandchildren,” the leaders wrote.

During the summit the participants will discuss how to encourage female entrepreneurship as well as the future challenges of an ageing population. The heads of government from Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Britain as well as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will all be present at the meetings.

The Forum will start on Wednesday evening with dinners at the government buildings at Rosenbad and at the prime minister's residence Sagerska huset.

On Thursday's the visitors will participate in talks with invited experts, company heads and heads of government, 70 percent of whom are women, according to Reinfeldt.

He will bring with him a delegation of women, including the former CEO for gaming giant Svenska Spel, Meg Tivéus, the fashion designer and company head Gudrun Sjödén and the Google Sweden head Stina Honkaama.

British PM David Cameron has brought the female head of Facebook Europe.

To Reinfeldt it is the sharing of ideas and thoughts that is the main aim of the meeting.

”It is the forum in itself that will be the result, not texts that are written after,” said Reinfeldt.

According to secretary of state Per Schlingmann, the meeting from last year in London was a great success, with insights gained on green economy and paper recycling.

What a title! To discuss women and work??

They should have had this discussion about women and work in the casino.

Imagine the headlines if Meg, Gudrun or Stina had laid down a bet and won.

"Sweden's top delegation of women clean up in front of David and Fred"

Yes, women can be an endless topic for discussion. Glad that they reserved some time for work as well.

Just don't let Cameron near the Swedish health care system

- in the UK Cameron is being opposed by just about every health professional and supported by the usual range of private rip off merchants

British influence is awful!

Fred is the best in managing the country!

If Cameron has turned up with the female head of Facebook Europe....

What's he done with the rest of her body ?

Just think though . . it could have been worse. It could have been Blair! He would have charged the earth just to say 'hello'.

I think it's great that a bunch of guys are discussing women in the work force.

Nice to see them tap the brain trust as I'm sure they are experts in the topic!

...maybe Reinfeldt is the only friend Cameron has left in the EU..?

Rhinefeldt looks a wee bit peely-wally as we Scots say...ie : a bit unhealthy. he should go for a 6mm haircut instead. Gives him a bit of quodos..cameron coming all they way over here....don`t worry socialists..here today gone tomorrow...

Well it is already a BIG Fail! With the invitation of Britain, it means the idea is dead on arrival!

Sorry, but Britain never stand for anything progressive or solidarity in time of need. Unless if the idea is to destroy, and divde, then it is a fantastic one to invite first...

Think of his effort to sink Europe and the world just to protect the 1% economc terrorists hiding and protected in London...

By the way is this another 'new version' of NATO? Just wondering aloud.

Now there's an idea - how about ditching the EU and Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Britain, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - perhaps Ireland and Netherlands could come in too - forming a nice sensible Free Trade Area... It would be a good idea to dump Cameron somehow though - along with 90% (or more) of the other politicians...

Cameron should listen to Reinfeldt: "The pensions scheme isn't based on magic. It is a welfare ambition based on large-scale re-distribution and citizens' own work". Large-Scale Re-distribution, Dave, that's how it's done. Pity your Nasty Party backers won't let you even consider it.

".. British PM David Cameron has brought the female head of Facebook Europe.." - Are we lefties all doomed on Facebook or will she now promise to work until 75 on a British pensioners pension? - which is more likely?

The best is if they just both get their countries out of the EU and get on with what is important. The dangerous thing is that the EU swindles these two men and that they give more money away that they don't have.

Plus Mr Cameron should not listen to anything to Mr Reinfeldt or particuarily any of his ministers in the eduation department who force parents into political excile who want to homeschool their children, which might not be understood by many, but is still a human right. The state do not own the children and shall not be responsible for the upbringing regardless to what Jan Björklund may think. Any good suggestions welcome, but don't take our freedom.
