After a 28-year-old woman was pulled off her bicycle and raped by an unidentified assailant in Malmö over the weekend, and police are fearing it could be the work of a budding serial rapist.

”To commit this kind of rape attack in a park environment there must be some sort of mental disturbance and if it happens once it can happen again. That is why it is vital that we catch him,” said Mats Attin of the Malmö police to local paper Skånskan.

The rape had taken place among some bushes in a Malmö park. Police had received a call shortly after 11pm on Saturday night and the woman was taken to hospital in a state of shock.

”The woman had been cycling along when a masked man pulled her into a shrubbery,” said Helena Ralsmark of the Skåne police to the paper.

The area was cordoned off by police and a forensic investigation came under way on Sunday.

”We still don't know what has come out of that,” said Attin to Skånskan.

According to police, the man was wearing dark clothing and is believed to be between 20 and 40 years of age. He was wearing a mask at the time of the attack.

Police are also eager to get in contact with a man walking his dog, spotted in the area shortly before the rape. At this point he is not a suspect, but police believe he may have observed something that could help their investigation.

Rapes that are carried out by an unknown attacker are otherwise notoriously difficult to investigate, according to police.

The Malmö police also told the paper that the weekend's attack was reminiscent of those carried out by serial rapist Niklas Lindgren, called the 'Haga-man' after the district in Umeå in which he preyed upon his victims.

not again :(:( , but one thing, the police should have given a rough sketch of the physical appearance of the rapist obtained from the victim right?
13:21 February 13, 2012 by gabeltoon
What was the woman doing cycling through a park at 11pm. This seems a stupid thing to do especially alone. I hope the B-----d gets caught soon.
13:56 February 13, 2012 by azimov
How dare she cycle through a park, minding her own business! She's just asking to be accosted by some worthless piece of cr£p skulking in the bushes.

@Gabeltoon

Incoming.

Oh, a Malmö serial rapist to complement the Malmö serial killer. Whatever next?
14:08 February 13, 2012 by strixy
@gabeltoon

Yeah, blame the victim, it always works!

There is no curfew in Sweden and everyone is allowed to enjoy walking/cycling/jogging at any time of day or night.

This guy is most likely a psychopath and a sexual predator. He was wearing a mask an preying for someone to rape. Next time it may be you, your mother, daughter, sister or wife. Or maybe just stop going out at all, because rapes don't always happen at night!

@ Azimov

Agree, she showed no respect for the territory and the hours of operation of the rapist. Shame on her.

A plainclothes military presence would increase the safety in the streets and parks of Malmö until they get the violent crime situation under control.

We should have a personal location indicator given out to every citizen. If a citizen is in danger of attack, he/she will simply press a button. The police makes a fast move to reach to the place (the machine can tell where it is). To reduce the risk of misuse, let each each citizen has one identification (so the person who misuses will be responsible for his/her).

I think they call those devices cell phones. Personally, in a situation such as this, I would much rather be allowed to carry a gun.

""To commit this kind of rape attack in a park environment there must be some sort of mental disturbance and if it happens once it can happen again."

The brainpower behind this statement is mind-boggling.

malmo is the safest city in sweden

Perhaps this woman has been in a coma for the last 20 or so years. You see, 20 years ago, Malmö was a safe and clean city as it had been for the previous 1000 years. Perhaps, she awoke after 20 years and didn't realize the many changes that have occurred since.

I think taking self defense classes should be mandatory for women in Sweden.

The majority of my friends live and travel in fear of being raped, many would say if they were raped it would be the end of their lives - and then they would also blame the boyfriend as much as the culprit of not being with them 24/7 as a personal bodyguard. But they wont take the initiative and better prepare themselves if they were attacked, to me the idea of self defence is a no-brainer but the mentality of so much of sweden is - it is what it is.

There is much someone can do to defend themselves, many rapists are not murderers and any damage done to the rapist would either deter or give a better chance to catch the culprit as you can describe poking or scratching him in the eyes, or bruising around the throat. just anything that can give a better description so people who may know the person can report them as a suspect..

If he was wearing a mask he must be a native Swede.

If he were an immigrant would know that it's förbjuden to release descriptions of non-white criminal suspects so it's open season worry free.

'A plainclothes military presence would increase the safety in the streets and parks of Malmö until they get the violent crime situation under control.'

Thank you for making so much sense. Please become the leader of Sweden. I swear, if the readership of this newspaper had any political control of Sweden it would be great.

Yes & the mental disturbance is most probably religion.
08:28 February 14, 2012 by Kublai
The reason for the rape must be Malmo's close proximity to Copenhagen.
13:33 February 15, 2012 by nathan45
I hope some one gets him and puts a bullet in his head people like that are the reason we had capital punishment.
23:36 February 15, 2012 by persika
Wow @phil23456, the link between rape and religion makes total sense...

OK 13 posts before the word 'immigrant' came up. And no real accusation. We're getting better eh?

What on Earth is going on in Sweden? Not just Sweden, all of Scandinavia it seems. To my English eyes, these were once outstanding countries, a paradise on earth. Beautiful people inhabiting a beautiful land.

It seems the Enrichment our Politicians rave about is more advanced in Sweden and Scandinavia in general. What a mess.

I hope you Swedes find the strength within to undo the damage done to your society. Many are on your side, all the best.
