Mum to son: Smurfs and UFOs are real

Published: 16 Feb 12 17:25 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/39158/20120216/

A mother from southern Sweden has been reported to health authorities for allegedly holding her son prisoner for years in a fantasy world inhabited by Smurfs and space aliens.

“She has convinced him that space aliens and Smurfs really exist,” reads the complaint filed with the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

The boy's mother, who also serves as one of his personal care assistants, has also forced the other three assistants who care for him to live in the fantasy world as well.

“Because the lies change and are expanded, it's hard to keep track of what applied,” explains the complaint.

As a result, the boy has reacted to his mother's elaborate fantasy world with “self-destructive” behaviour.

Repeated attempts by supervisors to force the mother to change the way she cares for her son have failed to yield any results.

“The section head has written in a document that the mother must change her ways with [the boy] and live in the same reality as most others,” the complaint reads.

Instead, the mother has chosen to apply for continued personal care assistance support from another municipality.

The complaint was filed earlier this month according to Sweden's Lex-Sarah laws, which oblige staff in the care industry to report instances of mistreatment to the social services.

Riddle me this....why is she reported to health authorities, but all those parents who force their children to attend religious functions are free to continue brainwashing their children....hmmmmm?

P.S. Space aliens ARE real!

@ Vill

Merely a matter of paperwork. She simply neglected to fill out form S-3482, which is required to form a new religion in Sweden, as the Filesharers have done.

Oh dear and to think about my wife and I telling our kids about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
19:22 February 16, 2012 by Frobobbles
When you think about it, space aliens ARE real, in contrast to fantasies like jesus, mohammed and santa claus.

seems a far more agreeable place than the real Sweden

So what is so wrong w/ a fantasy world for a child? He/she will son be faced with bitter reality. children cannot be children anymore. Just look at TV violence and sex for hours. I prefer former days when they just did not show these things. I also believe the news should be censored from revolting details.

fast-forward to the article on the double murder in stockholm... anyone out here seen Bad Boy Bubby? Brilliant film about this very thing!

the children should be deprived off their fantasy world and should be made to see how drugs, beer is made in the world. The children should be made to learn about sex at an early age... thats what the authorities want i guess.

We watch science fiction, we watch p0rn, we watch dramas... to live in a world of fantasy and away from reality. Don't deprive the children of these small treasures PLEASE!

And many believe in GOD, to have HOPE of some sort. Its all to soothe oneself.

What is her position on the reality of Santa Clause?
00:49 February 17, 2012 by bcarroll
Most people live in the same fantasy world. It's called religion, but the authorities aren't doing anything. Maybe that should change.
02:14 February 17, 2012 by Tanskalainen
Smurfs aren't real? Honey have you been to Detroit?
03:44 February 17, 2012 by jimfromcanada
Well, to set the record straight, Jesus and Mohammed were not fantasies and have been documented by non-believers of their time.

Several times i have been kidnapped and probed by smurflike space aliens. They now live on earth in the guise of hedgehogs and plan to take over Sweden by eliminating the goverment with poisoned Max burgers.
07:25 February 17, 2012 by Marc the Texan
First of all, space aliens do exist. Second...

"The section head has written in a document that the mother must change her ways with [the boy] and live in the same reality as most others," the complaint reads.

I think this statement could be equally applied to a lot of the bizarre religions floating around Sweden. Especially the ones that impose strict and impractical rules of conduct upon practitioners.
07:47 February 17, 2012 by Grokh
Whats the difference from this and religious people doing the exact same thing ?

both are child abuse but one is legally protected why ?
10:02 February 17, 2012 by Da Goat
I am confused who exactly are the children here!

Hmmmm Jesus is probably the only one not to do fantasy as his mission was too important!
11:15 February 17, 2012 by isenhand
Fantasies and delusion form an important part of metal health. Most people believe in some kind of delusion. That's normal but it can lead to some destructive behaviour, then it becomes a problem.

Religion, as stated above, is the most common one where people believe in magical invisible creatures (and, jimfromcanada, no, there is no evidence of Mohamed nor Jesus from the time they were meant to live and the evidence we do have for Jesus from the 1st cent says early xians believed in a spiritual, not physical, Christ).

I think everyone is missing the obvious: the news reporters are (admittedly! openly!) *ASSUMING* the man was in the car for 2 months, based on their (almost certainly mistaken) belief that 2 months is the upper time limit a person could survive under such conditions, ASSUMING THE MAN WAS IN PERFECT HEALTH BEFORE THE ORDEAL BEGAN. But there is no logical reason to make that assumption. He very well could have been emaciated for some other reason, and was only snowed-in for 1 or 2 days, not 1 or 2 months. Unless and until he can talk and tell us what really happened, we won't know for sure, but I'm guessing he was only in the car a few days, or even just a few hours. An undernourished man in a car under a snow bank in Sweden in the winter from Dec 15 to Feb 15? No way in Hell. He'd have been dead before Christmas.

honestly just send a guy over there to take the kid to the reality if they want some changes or just let them live in their fantasyworld. who doesn't want to live in a fantasyworld right? Live as you dream!
20:28 October 11, 2012 by janeway
So, religious fantasy's are quite OK to feed your kids, then? Heaven, hell, angels, burning bushes, protective underwear, Earth 6,000 years old and a bunch of different imaginary friends. Completely OK!
