Foreign minister Carl Bildt believes Sweden should be a “world power” and once called Russian prime minister Vladmir Putin a “chetnik”, according to internal emails from a US security firm released by WikiLeaks on Monday.

To do that, Sweden would need a decent military. It will take quite a bit of effort and finances to do that! Something I don't think Sweden has the will power to do.
In fact quite a lot of this email reads exactly like the WIkiPedia entry.Including copying of some very obvious grammatical errors. (The version of the WikiPedia entry I read pre-dates the release of the email but that's no guarantee of precedence.) The email's content is pretty much the same as for the US Embassary Cables pretty much information in the public domain already or conjecture based upon it. If this is all that WikiLeaks has on Bildt then I don't think the smear is very thick. There might be gems lurking in other emails about other people but on the strength of this one there ain't much to fret over for Bildt.
I wonder who the "well connected" and "extremely close" Swedish MEP is?
If I was Putin, or an Albanian, I might be slightly cheesed off, but really? This is neither a smear nor an exposé. It's boring!
Thank you Wikileaks for your tireless efforts to reveal the obvious.
In Bildt's case you're probably correct in your assessment but you are criticising the wrong entity. Bildt has built this up into a Wikileaks are going to smear me and Sweden to defend Assange. Whereas now, with the single email available, Bildt has been shown to be insignificant. He's been blowing smoke all along.
However, Wikileaks' release of all this material highlights the duplicity and hypocrisy endemic in the private intelligence world. Paying officials for access to government collected intelligence so that Stratford can then sell it on to other non-government people. The English are finding out that a similar situation has been happening with Rupert Murdoch's News International paying police officiers and government emplotyees for information that the press should never have access to. This is the value of Wikileaks; it keeps them all honest. And why should Stratfor have this information anyway; it wasn't theirs to have and hide in the first place.
Yeah, the clown actually claimed that:

Wikileaks needs to drop the clown, it's too important to go down with him.
You'd have to look far and wide in Sweden to find a man with a higher sense of his own self worth than Mr Bildt.
You take what AOL says seriously? Your a bigger fool than given credit for....
Man, have you been duped! Do a bit of research about Sweden's involvement on the world stage behind the scenes. You'll find they actually ARE a world power, though perhaps not quite for the reasons outlined in your post. It's time to wake up, people. Remember?
The smearage is not of Carl Bildt and Sweden by WikiLeaks but rather by Carl Bildt. Unless Bildt knows there's a 'smoking gun' in the Stratfor emails the smear campaign he thinks to be there is microscopically thin.
But his involvement raises the question of how Bildt knew what was in there in the first place. Wikileaks have announced no media partner in Sweden for this material. Makes me wonder if Bildt requested intelligence of himself from Stratfor. Or perhaps he's afraid that this private intelligence company's view of him and Sweden is 'irrelevant', so has setup a straw man he can blame.
As to PC - - - = Pure Codswallop
"But where I profoundly disagree is his (Nikolas Sarkozy) call for the suspension of membership negotiations with Turkey. He wants to restrict membership to countries on the continent of Europe, although it's not clear if he wants to expell Cyprus with its position off the coast of Lebanon."
The above was written by super intelligent Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Carl Bildt, on September 10, 2006. In plain words, Bildt has wanted all the time that a non European country should be a member of the European Union, because, as he says in another part of his blog "
"And it's highly likely that a Turkey rejected by Europe will move towards more of a relationship with a Russia that will then have new geostrategic opportunities, also in blocking part of the energy diversification of Europe"
And now he wants Sweden to be a super power. What a jerk.
News flash! Sweden already is a world power. By example, Sweden leads the world as one of the most honest, decent, democratic societies in the world. If the rest of the world emulated half of the good ideas that Sweden has come up with, like our healthcare system, protections for domestic jobs and businesses, our tax laws, it would be better off"
Honest and decent?Democratic? What part of Sweden do you not live in? You have a system reminiscent of 1950s Communism. Democracy here is overidden by the Socialist Government. If half the world emulated Sweden, it'd be a depressing world indeed. Sweden "borrowed" its social ideas from other countries..The protection laws are a hindrance for any start up company. Before you even get started your in for the tune of 100,000.. As for your criminal mafia style tax laws. The less said the better....
I fully agree with the one who wrote that Bildt would like Bildt to be a "world power", but his limitations will keep him only being "a small dog who thinks of himself as a big dog", but still nothing but a dog.
And all this time I thought it was just to protect Bildt, when it finally emerges as to his culpability involving those Sudanese massacres when Bildt was a director at Lundin Petroleum --- but then that's what being a world power is all about!
And how can you say that Sweden is not a world power. Have you seen "Mama Mia?" Other countries might have bombs and missiles but Sweden has ABBA!
And it has also Leif Eriksson. Oops! He was born in Island, but so what. Sweden invented also the Coca Cola.
