Prime minister Reinfeldt separates from wife

Published: 7 Mar 12 22:11 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/39544/20120307/

Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and his wife, Stockholm county council chair Filippa Reinfeldt, have separated, according to the prime minister’s press spokesperson Roberta Alenius.

On Wednesday evening an email from the prime minister's press office was sent out to the major news outlets in Sweden informing editors of the separation.

"I would like to inform you that Fredrik and Filippa Reinfeldt have separated," press spokesperson for Fredrik Reinfeldt, Roberta Alenius wrote, according to daily Expressen.

In the statement, Alenius informed the press that the couple had separated but that Fredrik Reinfeldt would continue to be officially registered at the couple's house in Stockholm.

More than that she was not willing to disclose.

“We have nothing more to say than what we have said in the statement, “ said Alenius to daily Aftonbladet on Wednesday evening.

Alenius couldn't say why the couple had decided to separate or if they are planning a divorce in the near future, according to the paper.

The surprise revelation follows Tuesday's announcement that the couple was moving house, selling the detached house in the Stockholm suburb of Täby that they had bought 13 years ago.

Both Reinfeldts have successful political careers.

Fredrik Reinfeldt has since 2006 headed Sweden's centre-right coalition government, which is made up from his own Moderate Party, the Centre Party, the Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) and the Christian Democrats.

Filippa Reinfeldt has held the post of Stockholm county council chair since 2006.

However, political scientist Ulf Bjereld doesn't expect the separation to affect either of the Reinfeldts' careers.

"It depends a little on the the circumstances but as it looks right now I don't foresee any political consequences," he told news agency TT.

The couple got married in 1992 and lived in Täby until the 2006 election.

When Fredrik Reinfeldt was made prime minister the couple moved to the official residence Sagerska Palatset in central Stockholm.

This is a boring story. Hows 'bout some NY Post-type salacious details?

publicity stunt aimed at diverting us from the Saudi-arms-story, these people actually do think we are gullible!
05:27 March 8, 2012 by Rishonim
@Jeff10.LOL or the Daily News..I head Filippa like to bang anything that moves and that Freddy boy got tired of covering up the trail. People say he even caught her in the act. sshh. Talk amongst yourself ;-)

Roberta Alenius will certainly be the next Mrs. Reinfeldt. Just wait and see.

She has been and is all the time, with Reinfeldt.Reinfeldt has forgiven her many stupidities like the one committed during the press conference last year given by Putin and Reinfeldt, where Putin classified Sweden as a

"demokratur" thanks to Roberta. (April 26, 2011)

So who else but Roberta to become the next Pippa?

Just wait and see. I am the OUIJA and I am seldom wrong.
08:36 March 8, 2012 by RobinHood
I agree with Bolababu. Mr and Mrs Reinfeldt obviously seperated to divert attention away from the Saudi story. He did a similar thing when he arranged for a releative to conveniently die to distract attention away from another embarrassing story.

No doubt Mr Reinfeldt will arrange for his own death during a negative story of suitable magnitude just to get out of that too. These people actually do think we are gullible!

umm they look alike :)
09:38 March 8, 2012 by SimonDMontfort
Its stuff personal to the Reinfeldts.

In France for example, such a story would probably produce a Gallic shrug...
09:50 March 8, 2012 by Nemesis
So what?

If there is someone stupid enough to marry Reinfeldt in the first place, that is there problem.
09:56 March 8, 2012 by Rishonim
Their separation has nothing to do with detracting attention for the Saudi arm deal. Filippa just like to go about and jump into the sac for a roll in the hay with anyone...She is a typical Swedish gal....

She's just the average swedish bint who can't commit to anything

hehe the pig probably cheated on Phillipa....stayed tuned.

Why not publish all the divorces of the people of this country see what we find???
12:57 March 8, 2012 by bells on the knight
you will find less infidelity dude. jfk never divorced but also didn't bang his wife for the last 10 years. go figure
13:35 March 8, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
@ bells

Oh really? No sex with Jackie? Then by implication all 4 of jfk's children were born by immaculate conception, or Jackie had as many flings as he did.

The divorce rate and separation rate (sambo to sambo no more) does seem extremely high in Sweden, with half of all the people I know in shared custody arrangements.

Would be very interesting to know why. Is this a natural and ordinary expression of boredom with our partners, which is suppressed in nations that have more traditional 'couples stay together' culture pressure, or is Sweden and Swedish media too full of 'you can be happier alone or with another partner' messages?

There is no new thing in this world .. it can happen and will happen , as it was happening ....

Not a big surprise most Swedish Prime Ministers seem to divorce - Bildt and Persson

At least Freddie won't have to pay much alimony - doesn't Fillipa earn aroun 1 million SEK per year as in her political role at Stockholm Health Authority?

She kept hiding his dome polish.
16:48 March 8, 2012 by Kublai
No wonder. She probably got tired of his hatred towards swedes and everything swedish.

Hopefully we won`t see her big cheesy grin anymore in the media, more important is her recent appointment, is she really qualified to do this? ..seems to be the standard thing to do in 08-land ..kids grow up suddenly you`re both 45+....divorce time ! whats the divorce rate in Täby-Lidingö etc...60% ? She´s done her biological duty...now she can feel good by deluding herself that she has a "career"....maybe she can turn up the The Locals "weekends finest " ? photos....
17:06 March 9, 2012 by OUIJA
No # 22 She will be portrait in one of the Midweek revellers. Have you checke thoroughly the type of ... that are there week after week?
18:41 March 9, 2012 by Archie1954
I find it difficult to fathom a separation when one of the parties is the prime minister. When an individual takes on such an onerous position, the people voting for him are acknowledging his spouse as his helpmeet, the one who will be there for him after a difficult day in parliament. This spouse is also a politician with her own concerns so they would be assisting each other. In other words the prime minister and his wife are a package deal. If Reinfeld had been single when the election was held, that would have been considered by the voters when they went to the polls. Surely things can't be so bad that she had to leave in the middle of his stint as top dog.
19:23 March 9, 2012 by sureiam
Who cares about the God damn separation, for Godness´s sake " Reinfeldt", whatever,,,, your name is..... get a grip of your self , and make Sweden a social and mingled zone!!!!

Good luck to both of them, now let's move on.
