District court 'forgot' child porn crime case

A 34-year-old man under suspicion of aggravated child porn offences after police confiscated 13,000 child porn images from his computer was never called to trial, as the court in southern Sweden forgot about him.

“A warrant was out for his arrest and he should have been reported as wanted straight away. But for some reason it was forgotten” said chief prosecutor Mats Svensson to local paper Skånskan.

According to the paper, the man was charged with aggravated child pornography offences in 2008, but never turned up for the trial, which had to be postponed. And then the Lund district court simply forgot about him.

The discovery that the case had fallen into oblivion only happened when someone enquired off the cuff what the outcome had been. The 34-year-old has been able to live a normal life with his girlfriend and his job for the last four years.

Had this not been a case of aggravated child porn crimes, the statute of limitations would have come into effect by now, leaving the man free from previous charges.

However, according to the paper, the man’s identity has been in the system all this time, so that if he had tried to travel or had been stopped in a police vehicle control, warning bells would have gone off for the officers.

The 34-year-old was apprehended by police in 2006 when he was found in possession of 13,000 child porn images and 236 films on his personal computer.

Of these, police deemed that 137 images and 50 films, comprising some 396 minutes, depicted treatment of the children that could be judged as specifically ruthless.

The mistake rectified, the trial date has now been set for March 12th.

He will now be found guilty and serve 30 longgggg cruel days in jail and be forced to pay 500 SEK to each child in the case and then be allowed to teach again in the primary school from which he was employed.

People will defend him and say "if you lock him up for 10 years he will suffer and why ruin his life? Keeping him in jail will not undo the crimes against the children. He will have learned his lessona nd never ever do it again!"

That is Swedish justice and mentality.

By the way I enjoyed going over again last week and having intimate times with some of the beautiful swedish coeds ;-)

Don't you just 'lerv' the system here. Plus the fact that a slap of the wrist will amount to the total punishment.

Swedish justice really has no relationship to justice.

People who are likely guilty are let go or slapped on the hand and those that probably are innocent and hounded by the police and/or sent away to prision.

Swedish voters should stand up and make the justice system accountable.

The whole Assange thing will be fascinating to see played out once he arrives. If Sweden were smart they would stop trying to bring him to Sweden for questioning as it is clear the system does not function on any level basis.
