Charles and Camilla hit Stockholm

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrive in Sweden shortly after lunch on Thursday, after spending a few days in Norway on their official trip to Scandinavia.

The trip is in conjunction with British Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, and the stay in Sweden includes a number of visits and activities around Stockholm.

“The programme for the royal couple’s visit very much reflects Prince Charles’s own interests in sustainability, climate and integration,” said British ambassador Paul Johnston at a Tuesday press briefing ahead of the visit.

The royal visitors will be staying as guests of the Swedish Royal Family at the Royal Palace in central Stockholm.

Shortly after touching down, the royal couple will be greeted by Prince Carl-Philip and taken to the nearby hangar to view a Swedish fighter jet Gripen and listen to a briefing on the Swedish contribution to the recent NATO operation in Libya.

In the afternoon, Charles and Camilla will visit the Fryshuset youth centre in Stockholm together with Queen Silvia and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.

There they will get to meet young people and see the efforts put in place to help young Swedes with troubled pasts and social problems, something very close to Prince Charles’s heart since he set up the Prince’s Trust in the UK 35 years ago.

On Friday, the Duchess and the Swedish Queen will visit a British-Swedish pre-school while the King and Prince Charles visit the Stockholm Resilience Centre, where they will discuss climate change and upcoming environmental challenges, and then continue on to the St. Erik neigbourhood, a modern housing development that carefully reflects Stockholm's traditional architecture.

The evening will be spent at the Drottningholm Palace with the Swedish King and Queen, where the visitors will be treated to a show at the 17th century Drottningholm Palace Theatre.

However, ambassador Johnston didn’t know whether the visiting royals will get a glimpse of the newest member of the Swedish Royal Family, newborn Princess Estelle.

“If they will, it would be a very private thing and that question is perhaps best asked the Swedish Court," he told the gathered press on Tuesday.

On the last day of their visit, the royal couple will visit the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, after which there may be an opportunity for the general public to see them, at 11am on Saturday.

After that, they the Charles and Camilla will visit the Saltå Kvarn organic food company in Järna, outside Stockholm, before heading for Copenhagen and the last leg of their Scandinavian tour.

I am surprised there hasn't been some sort of stupid protest by leftist idiots.

People with dubious past!

Still nobody knows what's behind the killing of Princess Diana the English Rose ?
14:39 March 22, 2012 by libertarianism
Maybe they'll drop a load of UK tax money in Stockholm, up the tourist revenues.

#4, I rather like that quality of the "leftist idiots."

#3, Or perhaps the armpit of some lady-in-waiting.

Diana the english rose, my ar__ she was just another toff, a 'lady' pretending to be all common and innocent. She was $hagging around left, right and centre, but nobody mentions that now.

Charles is alright, means well and his one liners are nearly as good as his dads.

I met 'Charles and Camilla' some years ago - in connection with my work.

I was surprised at how 'down-to-earth' and humble they both were (of course it helped that the Prince was personally interested in what I was doing).

I think monarchy- anywhere - is an outmoded idea these days, but hey! who cares when a photo of ME, with THEM, on my website did wonders for my work? Lol!

I came to Sweden to get away from this bunch of social parasites. At least for the moment I'm not in the same country as them.
19:55 March 22, 2012 by ulster1690
Social parasites? Explain...
20:39 March 22, 2012 by Opinionfool
@ulster1690

They don't work but they get millions for it. He gets a veto over what legislation is discussed by the English parliament --- without anyone knowing what he says shouldn't be done. His financial interests run roughshod over health an safety considerations because the claim is it is a dukedom. Someone squeezes out his toothpaste; someone cooks him 7 boiled eggs for breakfast so he can choose which one to eat (and the remainder get thrown away). Need more? No! Definitely a social parasite.

I couldn't agree more with Opinionfool but in my opinion the Swedish royals are far worse to the point that the word parasite is an understatement.

I can't wait for the day we have another referendum about whether we keep them or not. The last one was in the early 80s from what I heard and haven't yet heard about a new one on the cards. I wonder why. Perhaps because they know the result will be a big fat n..? I guess if I were one of them I would hold off as long as I could too if freeloading was so easy but probably not if I took a look at the state of the country and see how much better it would do with the billions of krona unnecessarily going to my family.

"Sad, Opinion fool is well named,"

Indeed but unlike you ..

" speaking such cliched tosh about people and an institution he knows nothing about.."

I do know about these thing. I keep in touch with the land of my birth by reading their major newspapers daily and with my family who still live there. The only tosh here is that you think it so.

The royals that are left in EUROPE seem to be more down to earth not like the stuck up ENGLISH royals. That aside the royals do bring the tourists in. I guess we can't have it all the time.

Those countries that are lucky enough to have Constitutional monarchies should be very pleased with their type of national government. Imagine being able to meet a living Consitution. The Queen regnant and kings are the emodiment of democracy and the ascenscion of the power of the people as a whole over the right of kings. It is an operating system of governance that is a constant reminder of who is actually in charge, the people! I wouldn't want to live under any other system. Just look at the Americans for instance, constantly having to watch their president to make sure he isn't clearing out the WhiteHouse when he leaves power. Their leaders are just glorified power hungry politicians many of whom are corrupt. Do you really think that is a better system? I sure don't. Give me the Queen any day with all of Her sixty years of knowledge and experience.

@Archie1945

"Constitutional monarchies ... are the emodiment of democracy and the ascenscion of the power of the people as a whole over the right of kings."

As if that were true. Charlie boy (the subject of this Local article) subverts the democratic process in England when his personal interests are affected. He has a veto over any legislation that might interfere with his privileged lifestyle and posiiton. That veto has until recently been kept secret ... indeed the elected British parliament is still not permitted to discuss it in open session! [Not that their current elitist government would care about that as it would also raise issues concerning their own privileged lifestyle.]

Thankfully the "diviine right of kings" was challenged and done away with centuries ago. It's now time to do away with the whole notion of monarchy --- or turn it into some old world version of a continental-wide theme park with each small representaiton of Victoria's and Albert's progeny playing their national part.
