Swedish soldier injured by Aghanistan bomb

A Swedish soldier on duty in Afghanistan was seriously injured by a roadside bomb on Friday while on patrol west of the Swedish military base in Mazar-i-Sharif.

The Swedish soldier, who comes from Kalmar County in southern Sweden, was treated on the scene by medics who were included in the unit before being evacuated by helicopter back to the Swedish base.
At the time of the incident, the soldier was travelling in a RG-32 mine-resistant armoured vehicle outside the village of Naw Shahr-e-Baluch, 40 kilometres west of Mazar-e-Sharif.
The incident comes a day after a Swedish unit in Afghanistan was fired upon in the same area.
No troops were injured in the Thursday shooting incident, however, which took place around 3pm, as soldiers had disarmed a roadside bomb and were carrying out spot checks of vehicles in the area.
Last year, one Swede employed by the United Nations was killed in an attack in Afghanistan. In 2010, three Swedish troops were killed while serving in the country, along with an Afghan interpreter.
Sweden is in the process of reducing its troop presence in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Sweden's force is expected to shrink to 400 people by the end of 2012, down from some 500 last year.
By 2014, there will be around 200 Swedish troops serving in Afghanistan.

Really, the UN needs to understand that the fighting never stops when you interfere in another country's war. Your seen as an invader, not peace keeper.
The UN would be better suited to helping refugees find safety in other countries rather than spend billions on army adventures.
It looks to me like NATO went in their with a set of ideas and values that did not fit to the war they ended up fighting. Failure in sense making.
Just hope there is a 'pooling' of resources and knowledge among all foreign military there to combat these bombs: after all, with many foreign forces leaving eventually, nobody wants to be 'the last soldier to die'
Are the nazi feminists in Sweden not shouting for gender equality? Oh sorry! I lost the track. They want gender equality by having the same salaries than men, even if they do not do the same amount of job or have the same abount of responsibilities. If they ever succeed in erasing men from Earth's surface, who is going to defend feminists? Oh, Sheena and the Amazones in the parliament.
Good for the soldiers, whatever nationality they have, that they are still someplace out ther riskiing their lifes for everybody, includind the nazi meninistst. Or, am I wrong?
Hope this soldier recovers and is send home to enjoy some holidays.
The swedish soldiers are involved in Soviet mine clearing and negotiations with warlords in order to allow girls to go to schools without being burned alive in the name of gracious Mohammad.
Who the hell cares what cavemen with the mentality of neanderthals are "perceiving"? Some dozens of Swedes are doing a great and charitable work there and are plowing through fear and sweat and blood in order for thousands of civilians to live in relative safety and peace. Even if there are 10 people that get education or some kind of future due to the swedush sacrifice - it is worth it!
