Sweden will be going against Denmark's attempt to force all EU countries to decrease energy use. According to Sweden's minister for energy, Anna-Karin Hatt, a reduced usage would damage the country's high-energy industries - mines, steel and paper.

Sweden already pays financial penalties to the EU for not meeting aggressive CO2 emission target reductions in Stockholm, one of the cleanest million-resident cities in Europe.
Meanwhile Paris and other large cities are exempt from the same CO2 emission targets by special exemptions provided by the EU.
Good to work to reduce emissions whenever possible and where it is reasonable tod do so, but Sweden should not always be singled out for financial penalties for energy use, particularly by nations that have far less industrial activity.
power station!
Sustainability means consuming no more than can be sustained over an indefinite period of time into the future. This can be more or less efficient. It doesn't matter. If you consume too much, it is not sustainable, no matter how efficient it is. E.g. if there is X amount of energy available, and you have either 50% or 90% efficiency, you will use either 50% or 90% of X for useful purposes, and 50% or 10% will be wasted. But X is still the same.
Efficiency means best use of what is available as a maximum, and the maximum needs to be set to a level that can persist into the future. If you are highly efficient and the maximum sustainable level is exceeded, then the energy source will soon run out.
If Hatt doesn't understand this, she should be sacked and sent back to school.
Oh yes and they want more women in politics. I don't think so.
The simple solution is to NOT put money first, and decrease the population, or at the worst hold it steady..
How about sterilizing all the Immigrants once they have two. Think of how much energy will be used by the next 6 to 8 kids each Immigrant will have if not put under control. The Immigrants are Ignorant, no argument there. So are my dogs and cats. I got the dogs and cat fixed! Get a clue!!!
The Malignant Breeders are destroying the planet!!! The religious fanatics who support the Malignant Breeders are doing the same.
20% better mileage is of no use when we have 200% more cars!!!
Why is anyone surprised that he is willing to betray Sweden's legacy of being a world leader in environmental issues?
Why doesn't Denmark go after forcing countries like China, India and South America to to reduce their emissions and energy usage? Or in general have measures put in place that reduce their economic growth, which will only lead to further increase in both. And make sure Africa doesn't further develop it's industries.
A few million won't make a change on a few billion.
Come this Saturday, "Earth Hour", all my lights will be ON and having a 2-storey house with an extra granny-flat, that's a lot of lights. Furthermore, I'll be walking up the street and turning on the neighbours' sensor lights. There's what I think of action on climate change. Nothing but a way for the pollies to get more money and taxes from us. Wake up people.
Those with ignorant anti-science viewpoints like Radhus should be sterilized before having any children to prevent the spread of such ignorance.

To assist this matter, all Danish holiday stugas should have their electricity cut off and they can bring their own fuel and denmark and candles form Denmark, for their 2nd homes, which is not a particuarly green concept.
Am I understanding you correctly? Now that the richer nations have more or less depleted everything, let's stop growth in the developing nations so we can continue to waste? Isn't that equivalent of stomping on whoever is already down to make sure they stay there? Isn't that also a major reason why people from these places are invading everywhere else? It doesn't solve the problem, just spreads it out to a wider area.
EVERYONE must work to reduce consumption, NO exceptions. However, I think that it is already too late. As usual, we never pay attention to warnings and only start to take action when it no longer will be sufficient.
Sometimes the mask drops and the fascist face of the enviro-fundamentalists is revealed
Also, the only for-sure fact that's known about declining populations is that in all such cases, the result was poverty and eventually an end to those societies. So, don't breed in order to ensure your ethnic demise.
Agriculture produces about 18% of of the total global warming emissions, and domesticated animals produce between15-20% of global Methane emissions, more damaging than CO2. In Denmark pigs produce the most methane.
Now to really show their determination to prevent further climate change the Danish government should immediately impose a tax on pigs, as I understand that there are SIX pigs for every Danish citizens including children.
