A man in Malmö in southern Sweden is suspected of having set his wife on fire following a domestic dispute stemming from her request for a divorce.

The 38-year-old woman received serious burns in the incident, but her injuries are reportedly not life threatening.

"She has injuries from her midsection and upward and on the entire front of her body...both her her torso and arms. But her face is in pretty good shape," police spokesperson Peter Martin told the local Skånska Dagbladet newspaper.

According to Martin, investigators believe the woman was drenched in a flammable liquid which was then ignited by her 53-year-old husband.

"The woman wanted a divorce but the man didn't. He was said to be very controlling," police spokesperson Anders Lindell told the Expressen newspaper.

The couple's two children were also present in the apartment at the time, but were unharmed in the incident and have since been taken in by neighbours.

Police received a call shortly after noon on Sunday about a disturbance in a flat in the city's Rosengård district.

A short time later, emergency services received a call about a fire at the same address.

When fire crews arrived they were met by a woman who had fled out of the apartment. Her clothes had been burned and she was taken by ambulance to Skåne University Hospital in Malmö.

"We heard there was a fire in the building, but when we got there we only found a little smoke in the apartment. A woman whose clothes had been burned ran out of the flat," emergency services commander Mats Steer told Expressen.

The 53-year-old husband who was still in the apartment was overpowered by police and apprehended on suspicions of attempted murder with an alternative charge of aggravated assault.

The man was placed in arrest later in the evening and interrogated about the incident and denies committing any crime.

Another man was also taken to the police station for questioning, but only as a witness.

Deport them.
08:16 April 2, 2012 by Snoopy!
how can there possibly be an alternative charge !

" on suspicions of attempted murder with an alternative charge of aggravated assault"

Clearly when someone is purportedly doused in a flammable liquid & then set alight, the intentions were to insure the doused person was turned to cinder & never to breath again , swedish laws ha !

'Religion of Peace'.

I actually support Islam - but it belongs in the Middle East.

The West is incompatible with Islam.

Mass migration will destroy our culture and water it down until there is nothing left but shopping malls, and big-box American stores, McMansions and broken English as the official language of every country.
09:00 April 2, 2012 by stabbull
i dont understand, but TL readers seem to have concluded they are immigrants because this happened in malmö. well, the 53 year old man should be put where he ll never lay eyes on the woman and their kids again. this is unheared of. who does that in a modern society?
09:23 April 2, 2012 by Localer
Well, in Islam is totally okay for man to hit the wife, since the heaven is under permission of the husband.

The man is from Rosengård.

Norwegian newspapers had a picture. He is brown at least.

respect4ALL: First off. He is a muslim. He is from Rosengård, which is like 90% muslim, he is brown and he does a action that is much more normal among muslims.

To your second point. Swedes are not mass emigrating to America. In fact, the same amount emigrate and immigrate from America each year.

I think America can choose who they want to accept into their country. Sweden should be allowed to do the same, and only allow immigrants who will benefit sweden.

Since children were present, it seems there should be some charge of child abuse as well. I don't know that I would even waste tax money on jail time for him. Send him on a rocket to the sun (or return him to his country of origin, with head-spinning speed). Use our tax money to ensure all victims get the care they need.

Estimates for Swedish jail time:

3 000 SEK (450 USD / 340 EUR) per day per person

1 050 000 SEK per year per person (159 000 USD / 119 000 EUR)

A five-year sentence would cost around

5 250 000 SEK (795 000 USD / 595 000 EUR)

Also, the s.o.b. is 15 years older than his wife, which points to the strong likelihood that she was forced into the marriage at the age of twelve or so.

The perpetrator's name is Ehssan Hassoun, which is of course a typical traditional Swedish name. The bastard runs a kindergarten, of all things! At least he didn't torch any toddlers.
14:59 April 2, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
In some Islamist states, she would now be allowed to burn him.

They ought to make those burqas flame retardant.
15:59 April 2, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
With some luck, the defense lawyer will be able to arrange for this guy to be tried before that Swedish judge who thought it was understandable for a man to beat his wife when she did not answer the phone, or tell her husband where she had been.

He will get an award for not kiling her and then the police will proceed to hunt limping cats... . They present much easier target than hard headed criminals and rapists... .

For how much longer is Sweden going to accept these animals in their land?
18:17 April 2, 2012 by Jeff10
In order to show that Sweden is a multi-cultural wonderland of really, really, nice people who can accommodate any culture, the most likely response by the Swedish authorities will be to establish, at gov't expense, a muslime community center in every neighborhood where husbands may go to burn and otherwise punish misbehaving females - wives, daughters, cousins, etc.
20:45 April 2, 2012 by zooeden
Yes sir... and for every action thew is a reaction, like, but in different way and a dude, somewhere in the north of sweden got burned with boiling water by his jealous girlfriend!!!
22:33 April 2, 2012 by Jeff10
@zooeden:

Yes, zooeden, there are exceptions, but in the muslime world, such occurrences take place everyday and are sanctioned by the authorities. On the other hand, in the West, these occurrences are the exception and the perpetrator is subjected to criminal prosecution.

As for actions/reactions, look at this way, when was the last time that a Western nation imposed the death penalty for the crime of switching religions?
23:06 April 2, 2012 by J Jack
Look everyone, a Swedish woman gets stoned and makes her 3 yr old smoke and drink beer and her friends at the party partake with it and get nothing .. she gets a fem lappar fine. How easy it is for Women in Sweden to get away with anything? Wait until the facts come out! It's maybe likely the Woman set fire to herself to 'make a statement'.

@ 08:15 April 2, 2012 by JulieLou40 (#2) Deport them. - Is it possible that he was born in Sweden?

@ 08:28 April 2, 2012 by jomamas (#4) 'Religion of Peace'. - I missed the part where religion was mentioned.

@ 09:23 April 2, 2012 by Localer (#6) Well, in Islam is totally okay for man to hit the wife, since the heaven is under permission of the husband. -Being an expert on Islam, can you explain exactly how this is done, under what circumstances?

@ 09:43 April 2, 2012 by Camlon (#9) "He is a muslim." {possible but not proven} "he does a action that is much more normal among muslims." - His actions are common among people of many religions & countries. I once read that in Christian Argentina a man can kill his wife for adultery; in Islamic law a judge will have to be involved to convict either side.

@ 11:30 April 2, 2012 by johan rebel (#12) Also, the s.o.b. is 15 years older than his wife, which points to the strong likelihood that she was forced into the marriage at the age of twelve or so. I know of many Christian, Jewish, Hindu & Buddhist women married to men much older than them, were they all forced into marriage at 12?

@ 15:41 April 2, 2012 by Svensksmith (#16) They ought to make those burqas flame retardant. - No where was the type of clothing mentioned but if it was a burqa she likely would have been burnt over more of her body.

@ 18:00 April 2, 2012 by Rod Munch (#20) For how much longer is Sweden going to accept these animals in their land? As opposed to keeping the ones they produce locally?

@ 18:17 April 2, 2012 by Jeff10 - Same as my reply to #4, #6, #9 & #16.

@ 22:33 April 2, 2012 by Jeff10 (#22) "...in the muslime world, such occurrences take place everyday and are sanctioned by the authorities." - Which authorities? Every time something like this takes place - usually Pakistan - the man is arrested by police & punished. When "Kitchen Death" takes place in India among Hindus do you hear about it? "On the other hand, in the West, these occurrences are the exception and the perpetrator is subjected to criminal prosecution." - In the west there are many instances of this & worst but most men are never punished & the media does not report.

Khailibilly:

You're full of it. In other posts I've cited several passages from the kornyran, all of which support my assertions. Even if the US there have several [dis]honor killings of females (AZ, MO, MI, CA, to name some).

If you google pakistan and honor killings, you'll receive millions of hits. Not only does packystain lead the world in honor killings, but it has few, if any, convictions for what would be a crime in the West, but is just another day in one of the most backward nations in the world.

Pieces of dung be upon you.
