Social Democrats sprint into poll lead

Spearheaded by an increasingly popular new leader, the Social Democrats have come out on top of a party preference survey for the first time since the 2010 general election.

Asked which party they would vote for were an election to be held today, 34.1 percent plumped for the Social Democrats in Demoskop’s April poll.

The result put Stefan Löfven’s party ahead of the Moderates, with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt’s party dropping back three percentage points to 29.9 percent.

”This shows that we’ve managed to get our policy message out there in recent months,” party secretary Carin Jämtin told newspaper Expressen.

Stefan’s Löfven's rising support has already made him the most popular Social Democratic leader since former Prime Minister Göran Persson hit his popularity peak in the early 2000s, according to the results of a separate poll.

In a Sifo survey published by Aftonbladet, 50 percent of respondents said they have a lot of confidence in Löfven, leader since late January of the party that ruled Sweden for seven decades with few interruptions until the four-party centre-right Alliance took power in 2006.

Moderate Party leader Reinfeldt remained at the top of the popularity pile, holding tight at 58 percent, the same level he recorded in the previous Sifo poll but much lower than the 72 percent support he enjoyed in 2010.

Green Party co-chairman Gustav Fridolin came third in the popularity stakes with 39 percent. Jimmie Åkesson was the least popular leader, with just 9 percent of respondents expressing confidence in the Sweden Democrat chief.

"Just 9 percent" for the chief of Sweden Democrats is 58 percent growth since the 2010 general election when the party polled 5.7 percent of the vote and received 20 seats in the parliament. If the trend continues, in 4 years, Sweden Democrats will have (9 + 58%) + 58%, resulting in 22.47 percent. In 6 years, they would have 35.5 percent, more than S or M.

@ Kr0n

Either you have trouble reading the above news or you enjoy twisting facts!! 9% is not the support for the party! Didn't you notice that 50%+58%+39%+9% is not 100?! The 9& is not the support for SD!

Perhaps at the end the respondents for the poll will say "HAHAHA APRIL FOOL!" :P

haha just kidding. I support social democrats, and though i myself am an immigrant who is working here as a software engineer, i do support a bit strict rules for the immigrants (regardless of where they are coming from).
