A 7-year-old Swedish boy spent several hours trapped inside a washing machine on Sunday after his mission to explore the inside of the device went awry.

Six rescue workers rushed to the boy’s home at a village in Härjedalen, northern Sweden, after he became trapped halfway inside the perforated basket of the top-loading machine.

Unable to force his hips back out, the boy got stuck in a vice-like grip, newspaper Östersunds-Posten reports.

Having assessed the situation, the rescue team decided they had no option but to dismantle the machine.

“We worked calmly and methodically to avoiding stressing the boy. We pulled the washing machine apart bit by bit, and in the end we had to cut up the actual drum,” rescue leader Sven-Erik Svensson told the newspaper.

“It took almost two hours before we were done,” he added.

Considering his near brush with a spin cycle, the boy coped well with the strain.

“Of course he was upset when he was stuck, but he was consoled and encouraged by one of his parents,” Svensson said.

The rescue worker added that the team had been concerned the boy might sustain injuries from being jammed in the machine for so long, but within minutes he was up and walking about again.

I think producers of washing machines must be pushed by the law to include rescue button. I just tried before 2 weeks to finish program one minute earlier and I could not open the door of machine. this last minute machine work 5 minutes and I was lazy to wait. so, it is very stupid that people can't choose than we must wait that machine decide when the door can be opened. therefore they had to dismantle machine instead to open the door.

@silversurfer

maybe you didn't understand... the door was not closed. it wasn't dismantled because the cycle had not finished, it was dismantled because he was physically stuck half in and half out...kinda like a toe stuck in a tap...just this time it was a boy and a drum....

Time for Sweden to implement the long awaited and anticipated mandatory 24/7 wearing of the safety helmet. It WILL save lives. Many Swedes seem to fear what in other countries has been long taken for granted. This story only seems to confirm their worst fears, even doing laundry is very, very, "dangerous". It is high time Sweden takes the required steps to make their citizens truly safe, by implementing these life saving helmets. I'm sure most Swedes would wear these new helmets proudly, since everyone knows even walking down the street, or even looking out the window, may have terrible consequences. Just think, if this boy was wearing his safety helmet, his head would likely have been well over sized, preventing him from said washing machine excursion. Problem solved. Get the helmet.
