Two men were gunned down in central Norrköping on Saturday night, with one of them still in a critical condition on Sunday morning.

Police continued the search for one or more perpetrators on Saturday night.

The police received a report of gunfire at a restaurant in St. Persgatan in central Norrköping at around 7.30pm. A man living nearby witnessed some of the events unfold and told news agency TT that he had heard three or four shots fired.

One of the victims of the shooting was left lying on the pavement, while the other man's feet could be seen sticking out from the door of a tanning bed.

Both men were transferred to Vrinnevi hospital for emergency surgery.

Later in the evening, local Östergötland county health authority announced that a 33-year-old man from Norrköping was in a life threatening condition.

The other injured man is 35 and is also based in Norrköping. His condition was described as serious.

Both men remained in intensive care on Sunday morning.

A witness told the Aftonbladet daily that the shooting was preceded by the assault of another person on St. Persgatan.

"None of the shooting victims feature in our records. There is no indication that this is gang related," said police spokesperson Joakim Stenman to news agency TT shortly after 11pm.

The police are continuing to conduct interviews with witnesses and to carried out a forensic examination of the location. It has not yet been possible to establish whether the attack was carried by one of more perpetrators.

I have never been to a restaurant that had a tanning bed, but we don't eat out much...

@jimmyjames u gat to think again and be logical. i dont think it would have been better being in one ethnic country. we outsiders came with two sides(negative n possitive) to swede sociaty but i am more than sure the possitives out class the -ves. there r so many innocent n who love thz country more than swedes do n proud. the ratio is the same.

when u mention Islam n blame real muslims, u have one thing in your mind wch is hatred against a peaceful religion. yes many use Islam and do many bad things but so do christians and other minor religions. u dont hear thz mass killings and robbery in saudi or other real practicing communities.

so i think u missed your point and maybe it was because of ur anger of such thing happening in thz bleesed land, i feel the same as u, bbt mention how we can overcome this and not how we can fire-up again.

As far as is currently know, the victims were not Swedish, there is therefore a good chance that the perpetrators aren't either.

Is anybody surprised?

Re 4, I don't think Westerners generally view Saudi Arabia as a positive example.

Sounds like another case of Swedish "multiculturalism"- basically drowning itself in refugees who could mostly care nothing for Sweden but only for the jobs in Sweden. I have no doubt that if the countries they came from's financial situations cleared up they would be back in no time, thinking nothing of the country that gave them a life that their old country could not.

What has happened to cause so much violence in this once great country?...oh yeah: "multiculturalism".
