Woman arrested after kids' football brawl

A woman was arrested for attacking six people on Sunday, after a boys’ football match in western Sweden ended in a brawl.

“This was seriously unsettling. Several people have been apprehended, and others have been moved on,” said Johan Novenius of the Borås police.

After what is believed to have been a heavy tackle on the pitch, a brawl broke out between the two teams, including their respective spectators, wrote the Borås Tidning newspaper (BT).

The match, which took place on Sunday afternoon in the town of Norrby, in western Sweden, remained unresolved as the fight continued throughout the evening and into the night.

A woman in her early forties was arrested and remains in police custody for her participation in the incident.

The woman is said to be related to one of the footballers.

“She allegedly hit six people,” said the Novenius to BT.

Police were on the scene several times throughout the night, and at one point eight patrol cars were present, some staying until the early hours of Monday morning.

Novenius told the paper that he intended to keep patrols in the vicinity to ensure the situation does not flare up again, wrote the paper.

this is a good example of why (for all it's faults) I prefer the US "name and shame" system !! sweedies lose much by not having the "perp walk" !!

And what good would naming the woman do to her, her kid, society in general except satisfying the curiousity of a bunch of nosy buggers?

Having her picture in the paper as an accused brawler at a children's sporting event charged with assault might be what she and her community needs. This woman should be made known in her community for what she has done and judged accordingly.

The problem with naming-and-shaming the perpetrator is that when she serves her penalty, when she pays her debt to society, nobody will notice. All they will remember about her and her family is the crime. She will live forever with the stigma of being the "footy brawler" and never be given recognition for having addressed her anger management issues through punishment/rehabilitation. It would serve neither her nor society any good to shame her publicly, unless we consider that she might be a continuing threat to others in the community. This is the difference between this type of "criminal" and a murderer.

Sounds like she wasn't the only one arrested... "Several people have been apprehended," so why the focus on the one woman?

I've been to dozens upon dozens of football matches and not once have I been attacked by a woman.

What am I doing wrong?

This is the reason that fewer adults are willing to participate in youth sports. The parents, while living out their fantasies of former glory days through their children are becoming increasingly hostile toward coaches, referees, other parents, and even other children. I coached and refereed football (soccer) for many years in the US and eventually quit in disgust over the behavior of parents. This is a travesty and is ruining the otherwise critical development of children through sports. These parents need to be dealt harshly with in my opinion. Bullies beget bullies. I have seen this time and again.
