Hostess plummets from Ryanair plane in Sweden

An air hostess fell out of an aircraft exit at the Gothenburg City Airport on Tuesday and was brought to hospital, bleeding from the head.

“I have never in all my years seen anything like it,” said airport CEO Annika Nyberg to news agency TT.

The Ryanair aircraft was waiting to take off to London and was running late. The flight was supposed to have left at 10.15am but when passengers were finally allowed to start boarding the plane around 11am, the atmosphere was one of stress and staff was rushing around, according to passengers.

“It was very confusing and unprofessional. It was almost like a state of panic when everything had to be done really quickly,” one passenger told daily Expressen.

What caused the hostess to fall out is still unknown. The vehicle which carried the stairs by which the passengers access the plane backed away and the hostess tumbled out of the back exit of the plane, a fall of some three metres.

“The stairs had been removed and the door to the plane was closed. What made her open the door we don’t know. I find it hard to believe that she took a step out, it is more likely that the door flew open while she was holding the handle. It is rather windy today,” said Nyberg to TT.

The woman sustained injuries to her head and was bleeding when the ambulance came to pick her up, according to the passenger. According to Nyberg, she was able to answer questions asked by the medical staff but had no further information about her status.

Police were informed of the accident around midday.

”The woman has been brought in an ambulance to the Sahlgrenska hospital with unknown injuries,” Thomas Fuxborg, spokesman for the Västra Götaland county police, told Expressen.

Normal service for Ryanair isn't it. And this is the bunch whose boss wanted standing-room only flights!!!!

Perhaps she was demonstrating emergency exit proceedures for anyone who had not purchased the inflatable air slide option.

Hey, this does not only happen to Ryanair.

Last month, an Onur Air captain fell out the door of his plane in Amman. He died.

Plummets ! and here I was thinking this implied she fell from several thousand feet !

tacky sensationalist journalism

@bolababu..

Hope you don't mean the poor flight attendant deserved to fall out of the plane just because she works for Ryanair.

Well said and I am swirish and I got it as well. So tired of "commentators" here, complaining about the poor level of written English on the Local.

Regardless of how poor it can be, the local is a good source of Swedish news in English, for all the lazy expats (myself included) who do not read or have bothered to learn Swedish. So stop complaining and just enjoy the fact that you can read Swedish news in English.

You should learn correct English grammar before You criticize others.

It was very confusing and unprofessional. It was almost like a state of panic when everything had to be done really quickly,"

it´s always easy to criticize the crew when u have no idea what this job is about. Especially Ryanair pax have distorted image about flying. Like if they didn´t know that RYR flights start boarding 30 mins before departure. In 25 mins the crew is able to disembark 180 and board another 180 to get them to their destination on time. Of course the crew is not gonna be walking up and down the aisle like on a catwalk. And some people just need a little encouragement to get them to their seats as usually mistake sequence number for seat number, can´t decide if there is a better view from row 21 or row 22 (35inch difference) or they come on board the last and expect the crew will be awaiting them with three seats together in the front row or something. So yes, boarding is quick, because time is money and it´s for the people´s good anyway if they wanna be ontime and cheap ticket. Usually it´s the passengers who are rude to the crew when they are instructed to put their bags under the seat, then they stand in the middle of the aisle blocking the way for the crew to offload the excess luggage to the hold etc etc.. . not to mention shouting vulgarisms and commenting how they will never fly again with this F... company. So there u go, nobody can appreciate the crews hard work and then when accident like this happen media try to make some huge sensation out of it without paying any respect to the girl. They should never remove the steps completely, they can pull back a bit, if the handrails are still in the way,but what happened seems to be a ground staff fault and strong wind that probably pulled the door open again.

Perhaps the Police spokesperson was at the hospital when the statement was made in which case the statement was correct in that the poor girl was 'brought' to the hospital. Either way it was easily understood but more importantly I hope the poor stewardess will be OK

Few people survive falling out of a perfectly airworthy plane to the ground without a parachute.

@Stonebridge - Actually it is taken to THE hospital. Not sure why you Brits always forget that.

This isn't the first time this happened a similar accident happened to a person who worked for an other Irish company too. I wonder how many other incidents like this have happened. But I hope she will be ok.
