Loreen takes Sweden to Eurovision final

After Thursday’s second semi final of the glitzy Eurovision song contest in Baku, Azerbaijan, Swedish entrant Loreen secured a place in the final.

“Maybe it sounds like a cliché, but I feel euphoric,” Loreen told newspaper Nöjesbladet, referring to the title of her song “Euphoria”.

Loreen described her performance on Thursday as “focused”.

She told reporters that the Swedish entry is a difficult act due to having to think of both the positioning of the cameras and the dance routine but that she was pleased with her effort and that she had been able to give out “good energies”.

When asked by one of the reporters about her meetings with opposition groups, one of the moderators tried to shuffle the question.

“There are two sides to me, one is private and one is as a journalist. Right now I want to focus on the positive energies created tonight,” Loreen said in answer, reports Nöjesbladet.

Loreen has been tipped as a favourite in the competition from the very start. Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter's (DN) reporter in Baku, Hanna Fahl, said that everyone on site was certain she would secure a spot in the final on Saturday.

"We would have been hit by a collective shock-induced haemmorhage if she hadn't made it to the final," Fahl wrote on Friday.

On Saturday Loreen will meet the 25 other countries that have gone on to the final.

Sweden usually has some good songs... this year's is abysmal though, I really don't understand how she's a favourite.
09:21 May 25, 2012 by G Kin
Could the problem be the ears listening and not the song?. If she has advanced this far there must be cross section of people that like her!

Hasnt a hope..Rusian old ladies will walk it, then Englebert Humperdink.. Sweden shoudl fniish in the bottom 5 or so along with Ireland and Norway
10:26 May 25, 2012 by fikatid
Her song is way better than most of the countries. Englebert? That sounds horrific, unless you're 60 years old.
11:01 May 25, 2012 by towns
If you look at the majority of Eurovision winners from the last decade or so, it was mostly due to the actual performance than the song itself. Just pointing that out.
12:43 May 25, 2012 by Beavis
As towns point out eurovision is nothing to do with the song much- its the performance- similar to a circus act. As Sweden take euovision seriously each time, they will never have a song that fits the winning formula. This year the comic acts are Russi and the UK plus a couple of others. Most of the songs are of course truly awful (unless your tone deaf) But they are not meant to be good.. just entertaining, that the whole point, which Sweden refuses to accept..

Jedward to win for Ireland

@fikatid - I doubt most 60 year old men and women these days are listening to Englebert Humperdink, sounds like you may be a bit young yourself or you probably would have mentioned Bread instead of mistaking Humperdink for kick ass 70's psychadelia.

Great song, and great performance last night in the semis. Better than her Melodifestivalen performance, and she upgraded to a much better outfit. The song is already at or near the top of the charts in many countries, if you think it's abysmal (snood) then you just have unusual tastes.

It's also the bookies favourite by a long way, a stronger favourite to win than Rybeck a few years ago.

I hope Loreen can win the Eurovision 2012 but last night she was very nervous and I felt that she forgot some words. Her performance was great and so far was the BEST but we can´t forget that the Russian ladies can do the difference...because they´re different....

Sweden can hold her head up high at Eurovision, Loreen is a super star.
19:19 May 25, 2012 by Spuds MacKenzie
Loreen is a dog and her song sucks. Why can't Sweden have a real Swede to represent them instead of someone from Morocco?!
19:27 May 25, 2012 by eurobloke
@john mahon

If Ireland wins, it is said that the national broadcaster RTÉ would go bankrupt after the two and a half hundred million kronor they spend on Obama and Queen Elizabeth of the UK.

Imagine that for SVT.
19:29 May 25, 2012 by towns
@ Spuds

Loreen was actually born in Sweden so she isn't "from Morocco"

If you want to ask a country why they won't have a local "ethnic" representing them you might want to ask Norway. For three of the last four years they've been represented by non-Norwegians (and no, none of the three had been born in Norway)
19:54 May 25, 2012 by Spuds MacKenzie
@towns This is precisely why Eurovision sucks: no actual Europeans representing their suppossed countries!
22:40 May 25, 2012 by towns
@ Spuds

Yeah, it's too political as well. It's no longer about the music, which was the original point of the contest.

Spuds, you're on the wrong website. Go away.

rte would never go bankrupt..the Irish state foots their crazy bills.

Sweden have no chance whatsowever. What bookies has them as favourites? Good to know so I can place a bet on Russia so.

Heres how it goes (slmost every year) regardless of song.

Sweden gives Denmark 10 or 12 points.

Sweden gives Norway 10 or 12 points.

Iceland gives Denmark 10 or 12 points.

Uk gives Ireland 10 or 12 points.

Denmark gives Ireland 10 or 12 points

Greece gives Cyprus 12 points.

Cyprus gives Greece 12 points

Whats been done before and won too much: girl bands, boy bands, drag queens,"love ballads"

Whatever has most novelty value is GARUNTEED to win, taking into effect country voting. Who gives Sweden 10-12 points every year...nobody..

Sweden will not finish in the top 5.. when they stop taking this circus show seriously they will have a chance. Any serious musician does not enter eurovision, unless they want to end their career, or have a laugh

Eat your socks Beavis. Loreen won.
