Family-run firm Nominit in Värnamo, southern Sweden, will be paying out 114 million kronor ($16.3 million) to their current and former employees in a gesture of goodwill.

“It is fabulous. But you’d think that the whole work shop would be running around completely crazy and spraying Champagne. But it is really business as usual. Both feet on the ground in other words, even though of course we are happy,” said production manager Christer Lilja to news agency TT.

Lilja has worked for the company for 19 years and is one of the beneficiaries of the goodwill from the two company owners, siblings Inger and Sixten Norhed.

The company was founded in 1937 and is the two founders and owners have no heirs to their fortune. The company, which currently has about 50 employees, manufactures rivets and has a turnover of about 100 million kronor, of which 60 comes from export.

The ownership will now be transferred to a foundation which will safeguard the well-being of the staff and former employees as well as promoting research.

The beneficiaries will get between one and two million kronor, depending on how long they have worked for the firm, according to the company. The money will be paid out as a salary and pension in three instalments.

According to Lilja, the staff had guessed they were in for a windfall but that they had had no idea as to how large their remuneration would be.

“We could never have guessed it would be this much,” he told TT.

He added that the good atmosphere and fair personnel policies of the company is the reason he has stayed on for so long, and to his knowledge there have been no redundancies for as long as he has worked there.

I think it's wonderful that the owners remunerate the people who have helped them be successful. I wish more businesses would do this.

OMG, I'm sounding like a socialist!

How much will the taxman be getting?

I can imagine they will also be very happy as they will definitely be pinching from the millions

Gpafled I'm guessing you yourself are ex-military? It's so nice of all the Americans who take time out of their busy day to incessantly troll a Swedish news site with racist or sexist comments on every single article.
14:19 June 20, 2012 by Borilla
@gpafledthis - Your less than lucid comments must make your grandparents proud. That trip to the US produced an illiterate redneck. You obviously never lived in Sweden and never accomplished anything in your own life; otherwise you wouldn't be relying on your parents' accomplishments to justify your eighth grade view of the world. Get back on your medication for a while before commenting on things you know nothing about.

@mnphoto87 Don't know about gpafledthis being ex-military. I am ex military, but I strive to be somewhat rational with my views. He does seem to have a propensity for incoherent nonsense. You could ask, "What has he been smoking"?
