Man charged for cutting off and eating wife's lip

A university professor in Stockholm who sliced off his wife's lower lip and ate it, was formally charged on Thursday with aggravated assault for the attack.

The 52-year-old man, who is a respected researcher at the Karolinska Institute north of Stockholm, also sliced his wife's arms in the attack.

According to prosecutors, the man was upset with his wife for requesting a divorce and flew into a jealous rage.

"He did it so that she would never be able to kiss again and said 'I'll get four years, but you're getting a life sentence'," prosecutor Jakob Holmberg told the TT news agency.

The incident took place in May in the couple's home south of Stockholm and has been deeded especially heinous because the injuries sustained by the woman are permanent and the man acted in a way meant to cause extreme suffering.

According to Aftonbladet, the 52-year-old waited until his wife was asleep before brandishing a scalpel and cutting off nearly her entire lower lip.

He then proceeded to eat the piece of flesh he'd removed from his wife's face.

Prosecutors had first classified the attack as attempted murder, but after the man admitted to the attack during police questioning it became clear that he never intended to kill his wife.

"He helped her call police and remained there until help arrived," Holmberg told Aftonbladet.

Following the attack, the woman has been living in secret location. Plastic surgeons have tried to rebuild her missing lower lip, but have nevertheless ruled the injury to be permanent.

If convicted, the man faces a minimum sentence of four years in prison, but could be jailed for as long as ten years.

Prosecutor Holmberg plans to argue that the 52-year-old be sentenced to jail time toward the upper-half of the penalty scale.

sick b@5t@rd... 4 years is not enough for a vicious crime like this.

Such calculated medieval wickedness produced by this control freak should be rewarded with a rest of life prison sentence. Otherwise given any freedom he will always be a danger to his unfortunate victim.

I would like a database and current-residence map of all the horrifically violent persons who walk freely among us.

Such a man working in such a sensitive institution should be charged with terrorism. If he can do this out of jealously to his wife then God knows whatelse he can do in jealousy to others....
15:05 June 21, 2012 by sometimesinsweden
Not sure that doing the same violence back, as he did to his wife, is what a civilised country should be doing as punishment.

The pre-meditated nature of the attack, the actual carrying out of it and the bizarre reasoning would probably more indicate that he needs to be locked away in a psychiatric hospital and properly evaluated rather than the standard 6 years in the nick for aggravate assault.

Shocking what the Swedish culture is capable of. These honour-related crimes are a real part of the Swedish culture and come from Viking times. Unfortunately we can't deport Swedes who perpetrate these crimes as they are native Swedes.

I'm not serious with the above but just trying to balance out the usual comments in this paper from the Breivik wannabes that infest it.

All cultures have bad elements to them. None are immune from bad acts.

Except the scientist is an Iranian guy named Hodjattallah Rabbani. This is why selective journalism bugs me, they have the freedom to chose what we can and can't know. So instead of giving us news from a neutral standpoint with no specific values and opinions attached to it, they can discard or modify information that doesn't suit their worldview. In this case so SD won't get "water on their watermill". But then they're also insulting the reader by thinking they're too stupid to handle the information and would all become racists if we found out.

But the thing is, we're no better than our sources. And if our sources are one-sided, missinforming and/or missleading, we need more and better sources to get a better perspective. 54% of journalists on SR votes for MP, 52% of journalists on SvT also voted for MP. Less than 1% of journalists votes for SD. Can you imagine what the news would look like if the numbers were reversed and half of swedens journalists were voting for SD?

Yeah. We would finally get an accurate picture of what REALLY goes on in this country.

Eh? It's been reported as an Islamic honor crime in press outside of Sweden. Either way, not sure what his background has to do with it. Horrific crime and hope his wife comes through it,

@Rod Munch

Not really, I think journalism needs more diversity in opinion by giving several perspectives. I think swedish journalism has failed in that aspect since they tend to give a very one-sided aspect of for example the israel-palestine conflict, feminism, immigration etc. I don't care much about what one part says about another, I rather hear what each part says about themselves. For example why does an anti-SD organization like Expo so often get to speak for SD rather than letting SD speak for themselves? But personally I think news should be reported with as much facts and as little opinion as possible, unless you're reading editorials or such.

I really wonder how come an educated person do such inhuman action. ı think that man must have done such a creul action in his previous life .he shouldnt be allowed to remain in public he needs a life term punishment .

This Iranian was encouraged to calculate that the soft and wet Swedish judiciary would only sentence him to four years in a soft jail. This says it all about how the liberal Swedish justice system fails to protect, in not having any form of deterrent sentencing in its armoury.
