A newspaper delivery man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl he met while out on his morning rounds in Stockholm has been convicted of rape by a court of appeal.

"Obviously, it's a relief, especially for my client," the victim's lawyer, Carolina Nilsson, told the Metro newspaper.

The 31-year-old newspaper carrier ran into the girl while out delivering papers on the Stockholm island of Södermalm on the morning of July 31st, 2011, the Metro newspaper reported.

According to the girl's account of the incident, she had gone out for a cigarette when the man began showering her with an unprompted litany of compliments.

Suddenly, the 31-year-old started kissing her and then forced her into a back garden where he proceeded to sexually assault the girl.

After the girl reported the incident to police, the mail carrier was subsequently charged with rape.

The 31-year-old later claimed the girl had bee hitting on him, resulting in nothing more than a kiss.

He explained the semen recovered from the girl's clothes by saying he ejaculated prematurely.

The man was initially acquitted following his district court trial due to doubts about the credibility of the victim's testimony.

According to the original indictment, the girl was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident and was therefore considered to be in a helpless state.

Prosecutors and the girl's lawyer appealed the ruling to the Svea Court of Appeal, which overturned the lower court's verdict and convicted the 31-year-old delivery man of rape.

He was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay 91,800 kronor ($12,970) in compensation to the victim.

And the girl was charged with under age smoking and the smoke shop for selling smokes to a minor or the parents charged for supplying smokes to a minor? When I saw the first article in 2011 I was shocked that the girl was 12. I thought only Dane and Indonesians let their children smoke.

No, not postman. It was a man delivering newspapers. The postmen don't deliver mail in the early hours of the morning, and the Local is being a bit disgusting for not fact checking before posting clearly erroneous news like this.
13:48 June 25, 2012 by Paul_225
Yes... a "swede" did this...
16:07 June 25, 2012 by workforthesoup
Exactly kimborambo!

Its NOT a postman, its a Newspaper delivery man!

Its totally different things.

Postman works during working hours.

Disgusting that thelocal doesnt check the authenticity of the news before attempting to tarnish the image of companies.

Posten has strict guidelines and behaviour training and any such offenders dont usually become part of the workforce.

It was not a postman. It was a newspaper delivery man and he is not even Swedish. He is from Burundi and doesent have a Swedish citizenship so dont blame the postman or the postoffice.

Wow. Shocker....In other news, the sky is blue.

Sweden never deport the heavy criminals. We save them for our self and let them to Denmark to make terrorist attacks. The Sweden goverment loves crimes and rapes, but only on Swedish girls and children. Welcome to Sweden today

Swedes are easily fooled by the immigrants who can speak like a salesman with a fake smile. On the other hand, they misunderstand those who are honest and reserved. They don't care to think what's going on at their back, which is which & who is who.

It disgusts me how racist and bigoted these comments are and how sad that those who say such narrow minded things probably feel so righteous.

Atrocities happen regardless of skin color or country of origin. Yes, this person is likely not a good person, but to attribute it to an entire class of people is ridiculous.

But you know what? Go ahead. Blame it all on them. Hell, why not take a gun and shoot them all down... shoot them like that immigrant who shot all those Norwegians on that island. (Rumor has it that the killer was from Burundi.)
01:13 June 26, 2012 by godnatt
@Pojken

Yes, funny how an entire class of people seems to be behind a staggeringly disproportionate amount of the crime and rapes in Sweden and Europe in general with concrete statistics to support it.

Acknowledging this means we're all serial killers.

Excellent logic.
04:52 June 26, 2012 by Pojken
Acknowledging it is one thing, but presuming that immigrants (Muslims especially) are innately criminals makes you a bigot.

You ever move from home due to a war? Or political strife? You ever been forced to find refuge where you are a strange, if not unwelcomed minority?

Perhaps there is more to it than simply being dark skinned or Muslim. Perhaps it's an effect of being disenfranchised, of being absurdly poor without means of improvement, of being integrated into a system where there is already disdain and prejudice.

Ahh, but you wouldn't understand that. Lucky you. Lucky me... I only had to witness my parents go through it.
05:39 June 26, 2012 by godnatt
@Pojken

So now you're changing from "we're wrong", to making excuses for the perpetrators... Once again, impressive logic.

Yes, poor disenfranchised mentally disturbed people from the horrible hellholes of the world who've been taught to subjugate women and accept violence as the norm are (unfortunately) more likely to commit crimes and rape our women.

Whether we should be inviting more of said people in to our neighborhoods to put ourselves at further risk is the REAL question.

Thanks for making the point for us.

"The Local seems to be some kind of Aftonbladet in english, a shxx newspaper..."

@haladeen,

And yet here you are....
13:14 June 26, 2012 by Pojken
Explaining to you is futile, I realize. I haven't the interest nor concern. Continue blaming muslims and unacceptable skin colors - you will become a sad prisoner in your own home and feel constantly powerless and victimized. Go, you!
15:31 June 26, 2012 by godnatt
@Pojken

Spoken, as usual, like someone with nothing relevant to say.

Fortunately, most people on your side of the argument are equally incompetent.
16:06 June 26, 2012 by Paul_225
@Pojken

Spoken like a true cultural marxist with his head in the sand. No one even mentioned skin colour, just nationality, and immediately you jump to the conclusion that he is a colour other than white - which makes YOU the filthy racist.

It's people like you that are making this country ignore the problems that are so blindingly obvious, all so you don't have to offend anyone and/or their cultural "heritage". You are the reason that people like Breivik exist.
17:46 June 26, 2012 by Rod Munch
Well said, Paul and Godnatt. Usually people like Pojken live nowhere near a major city and/or are new to the country. Facts are facts. And when people like Pojken pull their heads out of the sands then society can actually tackle this problem.
17:22 June 27, 2012 by Migga
Atrocities happen regardless of origin, that`s true. But around some groups atrocities happen more often and are worse. Only when we can face that fact can we deal with the problem. It`s not about calling out groups of people, it`s about facing reality. It`s not about saying that the problem lies with a certain skincolour or race. It`s about saying that some groups, that makes criminal decisions based on bad values, should be brought to the light.

This man had a job, he is married, he is an adult and have two kids. To make him look like some problemcase when he isn`t is just a way for you to put him in your mold of poor, abused and unprivileged minorities who is forced to commit crimes by the white man. He had a stable life but decided to rape a helpless minor anyway. That just goes to show that a criminal that have adopted bad values can be found anywhere. Thing is that these bad values are being adopted by certain groups more then in others. That should be found out and used to educated the public. It the end it might stop and the problem will be less frequent.
