A 15-year-old boy from central Sweden may face criminal charges after a woman he ran into while riding his skateboard died from her injuries.

The incident took place last Wednesday while the teen was riding his skateboard in the town of Värnamo, located in central Sweden, about 70 kilometres south of Jönköping, the local Värnamo.nu news website reported.

The woman, who is in her sixties, was walking with her daughter on a path designated for cyclists and pedestrians when the skateboarding teen crashed into her.

The impact sent the woman falling backwards causing her to hit her head on the pavement.

She was rushed to hospital following the crash, as was the 15-year-old, who reportedly suffered a number of minor fractures.

While the boy was released from hospital by the weekend, the condition of the woman failed to improve and on Sunday she died as a result of her injuries.

"It's extremely tragic," Värnamo police spokesperson told the website.

Police have since launched a wrongful death investigation in order to determine whether or not the 15-year-old should be formally charged for causing the woman's death.

However, police have yet to interview either the victim's daughter or the 15-year-old skateboarder for their accounts of what caused the fatal skateboarding collision.

i always worried about the pavements in sweden, so many injuries can happen because of it. bring sand back and the natural way it was in.

Skateboards don't kill people; reckless, arrogant, immature, speeding skateboarders who lack the wits to realize that they must share the paths with pedestrians do.

It's an accident, if it was a cyclist it would be the same., if the kid has died would the woman face the same? There is no where the kid could have skated, so where he was is as best as he could get.

Considering how long skateboard has existed, this sort of this is extremely rare.

Sounds like the kid was skateboarding where it is not allowed therefore he should be held accountable for actions and not obeying the rules. Also why weren't these people interviewed at the scene of the accident or at least once they were stabilized at the hospital?

Criminal charges? Yeah, right. In Sweden the result will be the lightest of slaps on the wrist, if even that.

That must have been some crash to kill the grandma and cause fractures to a strapping 15 yo boy !

#5 Well said. But I think it's not so much a matter of lack of wits but lack of respect for others, a rapant disease in this society. Everyone subscribes to "me, me, me first and to h*ll with everyone else". You can see this in the simplest things: from screaming on their mobile phones in public places to jumping in front of people in queues who have been standing there waiting patiently for a long time, to rushing into public transport pushing back passengers who are trying to get out.

Well said #2, #5 AND #10! And #6 Grävling, you're an idiot! 'Accident' is a much abused word. 'Drivers', whether of skateboards, bikes, cars, bloody great big trucks or whatever, have a duty to drive responsibly and with due consideration for others - clearly this kid wasn't doing that! Same applies to pedestrians themselves - if someone barges into someone else and knocks them over they are, at least in theory, guilty of assault and battery even if the victim isn't actually injured!
