Jealous husband ate wife's lip 'on impulse'

A Stockholm-area professor charged with cutting off and eating his wife's lower lip has told investigators he planned to kill himself after the attack and that the decision to eat his wife's lip was made "spontaneously".

"I didn't want to kill her. I wanted her to suffer for the rest of her life for what she had done," the 52-year-old man told police, according to the Expressen newspaper.

The man, who is a respected researcher at the Karolinska Institute north of Stockholm, stands charge with aggravated assault for the attack on his wife, which took place in May in the couple's home south of Stockholm.

According to prosecutors, the man was upset with his wife for requesting a divorce and flew into a jealous rage.

Following his arrest, he told police that his 32-year-old wife had repeatedly asked for a divorce and that he ultimately attacked her when she returned home from a trip the professor believed she had taken with her new lover.

"First, I took a knife, but it wasn't sharp enough. Then I took out a scalpel that one uses in surgery," he explained.

According to the professor, his wife was awake at the time and he told to her that he didn't intend to kill her but that I had to "punish" her but cutting off her lip.

"I took her lips and cut one off and ate it," he admitted during questioning.

By removing his wife's lip, the 52-year-old hoped she would never be able to kiss again. During the act, however, he became concerned that doctors might try to reattach his wife's lip.

But he came up with what he considered a fitting solution on the spot: swallowing his wife's recently sliced-off lip.

"I got the idea spontaneously. I thought, 'I'll get rid of it. I'm a man of science, I have a very high IQ. I have the ability to solve problems in a second'," he told police, according to Expressen.

The professor also told police he planned to kill himself, either by taking cyanide or by ramming his car into a wall.

"I thought about other options too. I didn't want it to look like a suicide, but rather an accident because it was about honour," he said.

The man's wife, meanwhile, has told police she "feels sorry" for her husband, despite the attack, which is expected to leave permanent injuries.

"I may end up with a scar on my face, but he's lost his entire life," she said.

The trial of the 52-year-old professor is scheduled to start on July 3rd.

He is not just wild and disgusting, he is also mentally sick to believe that he is man of science and smart! I hope his serious mental disorder is fixed before he goes to jail so at least he realizes that he is not a man of science!

"Respected researcher" at Karolinska? Well, I guess the system should just let him go back to work and tell him not to do it again. After all, he is "respected". This has all the code words needed to tell Swedish judges that the powers that be don't want a problem with this one. "Respected researcher", "honor" , obvious Muslim wife wanting a "divorce" . Clearly an "educated man" should not be sent to prison or placed under psychiatric care for CUTTING OFF HIS WIFE'S LIPS AND EATING THEM. We should start two pools (1) on how many months suspended sentence he gets and (2) How long it takes the public to learn that he is still working at Karolinska.

The fact that the man did not intend to kill his wife should be considered in his trial. He is being scientific about the whole process. Otherwise, he had the life of his wife at his hands at that evil moment.

This case looks like a case of a man who planed the attack on the woman.

I suggest that if the vile offender calls himself a man of science and reason that a group of science graduates with creative minds should devise a "scientific punishment". Perhapes he should get jail and be given some very tiresome (but scientific) job to do in jail.

My suggestion

How about breaking rocks, he will be given two sieves. The rocks must pass through a 10 mm sieve but not a 4 mm sieve. He must then produce kilos of the 4 to 10 mm fraction each day.

To be fair why would a woman marry a man 20 years older? MONEY. Feet under the table get a divorce and half the poor suckers worldly goods and money and while she's at it she cheats on him - MEA CULPA

Spot on DAVID T.

These girls marry those who have permanent residence or citizenship of a rich country and then when they get their permanent residence they divorce their "husbands", who is nothing except a bridge to a rich country.

There was only a 20 year age difference. Lots of couples do quite well with even greater age differences. Why is it such a taboo in Sweden to not marry someone within a couple years of your age?

A woman has been permanently disfigured by her husband and, without any actual information about their relationship, you abuse her further and appear to justify the indefensible.

Do the two of you have wives or girlfriend, should they be worried ?

Re 4, great idea. I can see him getting an 8 month sentence, and I think he'll be working at some medical facility within two years. Next questioin, when will he get remarried?!

My point is that there are many girls who dont even know the guy before marrying him and that's very wrong. Also it's very wrong to plan to fool someone who trusts you for making a family. This is not just a usual cheating, and in this case that man happened to be sick and dangerous.

@andthenme

And what about the poor women (children) who are forced to marry men 20 years older than them, sight unseen, by families which, in effect, sell their female children to a cousin, or uncle or the highest bidder? Judging from the code words so heavily relied on by the perpetrator he comes from one of the nations where this is accepted practice (someone suggested Iran). What is your view if she was ten and he was thirty when they were forced to marry and she was shipped here against her will? Women and men in Sweden are entitled to divorce with out being threatened with death or having their lips cut off.The man has taken every advantage of Swedish hospitality and, apparently, pay by the public fisc but he can't obey Swedish law when his "honor" is threatened?
