Swedish police raid wrong Malmö flat

Police searching for a suspected criminal in Malmö in southern Sweden on Friday mixed up the address and raided the wrong apartment, leaving the roughed up residents with a seriously damaged front door.

"It was completely surreal...the door suddenly burst open and in stormed fully-equipped police who started to scream. It was like an American film," Hanna Flodr told the Aftonbladet daily.

Flodr, who was in the apartment with her 65-year-old father Pavel, was sleeping when the police arrived and forced their way in at 9.45am on Friday morning.

The pensioner, who is reported to have a heart condition, was forced to the floor at gunpoint and with a knee in his back.

The police unit meanwhile separated the hapless Hanna from her father and proceeded to search the apartment. The only item of interest that they were able to find however was an aluminium case containing her water-colours.

Hanna Flodr explained that she later learned that the police were looking for a known criminal who they believed was hiding at the address as part of the Malmö police's push to tackle organized crime.

The Flodrs live on Trelleborgsgatan and according to Pavel Flodr the address the police were looking for was on Trelleborgsvägen.

After spending some 90 minutes at the flat the police concluded that they had indeed mixed up the addresses and moved on.

According to the local Sydsvenskan daily, the police unit raided a further address in the vicinity at around 3pm on Friday.

Hanna and Pavel Flodr were left on Friday afternoon with a smashed up front door and after contact with the police they have been told to report the incident.

But the pair have been left shaken by their experience and subsequent treatment by the police and thus intend to press charges.

"It is not enough to say 'sorry we'll conduct an internal investigation'," she told the newspaper.

Local Malmö police chief Mats Svensson meanwhile expressed regret over the incident.

"The most important thing is that no one was hurt... But this type of thing shouldn't happen," he told Aftonbladet.

yes such things shouldnt happen, but they do happen. So no big deal, keep on working police. and i hope the damaged is repaired by the police department.

This is a huge deal. I hope the police receive a crippling financial blow after robbing these people of their basic human rights.

The police need a wake-up call - this isn't the wild west and they need to start obeying the rules.

And Mr.Flodr didn't even offer them coffee & cake... horrible manners, horrible!

Yes it IS a big deal. if you are going to raid a home, you check, double check and triple check you have the right address, before doing so. I would have been livid if this had happened to me and my children terrified.

No big deal. These things happen. A new front door and a sorry should be enough.

This is precisely the reason I have a deep dislike for the police OF ANY NATION . I have lived, travelled and worked all over the world and ALL POLICE ARE ARROGENT A--holes. They kicked down the wrong door at approx. 9;00 in the morning, THEN BY GOD BY 3:00 IN THE AFTERNOON THE DOOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED !!!! AND THE VERY COPS RESPONSIBLE TO AT LEAST OFFER A SERIOUS APOLOGY. In the USA on multiple occassions police here have been shot and killed by home owners who thought the "masked night ninjas" were criminals possing as cops...........AND THE POLICE ACTUALLY, IN EVERY INCIDENT, ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE THE HOME-OWNERS WITH MURDER rather than admit their fellows death was due to their OWN BOTCHED OPERATION 11 Police are like lawyers.........unfortunely a neccessary evil that has to be tolerated in a civil society........BUT THEY SURE AS HELL ARE NOT IMMUNE TO THE RULES THE REST OF US HAVE TO FOLLOW.

Much like prossies the Swedish police are never around when most needed.

Try getting hold of one when your house is being burgled.

No chance they are all far too busy,.....

.......sitting in their cosy offices stuffing their faces with takeaways and discussing their next holiday.

Keystone cops ain't got nothing on these guys.

My own view is that way forward is for the police officers to be treated under civil law as if they were home invading burglars. As they had firearms on them then the crime is not normal burglary but aggravated burglary. The civil settlement should reflect the normal criminal penalty for that act.

However if the police cooperate fully then I think that criminal charges should not be brought, however any police officer who fails to cooperate with the civil case by being fully truthful should face charges for attempting to pervert the course of justice AND be charged with assault.

there is only one way to describe this, pure incompetence and lack of responsibility to the affected people
